I have great respect for Janet Mills but she is far too old. This is a big part of the problem with the Democratic party. We should be backing someone much younger, and so should Governor Mills. There has to be someone younger who can win against Susan Collins.
Agreed. AND I say this as a white woman. But I'm sick of white people in charge..especially only white people of a certain age who can be retired. I want actual diversity and representation. I want people with spines. I want disabled people. I want people who aren't white. I want the Indigenous in charge. Etc.
Oh. I know. Just in general. I want an age cap. I want actual representation. Actual diversity, instead of CONgress looking like a retirement center. I'm sick of the corporate dems who kiss up to trump.
Since you feel that way, please support Mary Peltola, running against Dan Sullivan for the Senate from Alaska, and Jonathan Nez, running for the House from Arizona. Both are indigenous; Mary is Yupik, and Jonathan is Dine.
You don't meed money to support. There are other things you can do that don't cost money. Email. Sign up to address postcards; someone else pays the postage. Encourage your friends to do the same.
Imposing an age cap is discriminatory, and many older people (think of Bernie Sanders) are sharper than some 20-year-olds. I think what might work better is to require every candidate, no matter their age, to take a cognitive assessment by an independent agency, AND to take an exam on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Most of our current politicians would fail. Weed them out right quick.
I have a PhD in Human Development, recently retired as a psychotherapist and tenured faculty member teaching at the graduate level. I, also, don't want the obscenely wealthy in charge. I am a fan of the democratic socialist ideology.
Why would you write off Gov. Mills? Ageism is yet another way to discriminate. Look at her policies, what she’s done for Maine, how electable she would be - judge her based on what she’s done and who she is, not on her age.
I am 86 and agree with much of what you say. Winning elections is the only way to start cleaning up this mess. On the other hand, we need to develop new, competitive leaders to take over as the old guard goes away. The Democratic leadership in the Senate is best described as a gerontocracy. How to effectively transition to new leadership is a critical issue right now as we face the greatest threat to democracy since at least the Civil War.
Glad to hear of Kate Conley. She definitely earned the right to speak against Hegseth. I very much agree with her that these days it looks like the greatest threat to this country comes from within our borders and that it has nothing to do with law enforcement nor immigration enforcement. I totally agree that her opponent, "Mike Lawler has been complicit, along with the other cowards in Congress, for allowing the weaponization of the executive branch go unchecked. And for that, there is no forgiveness." May Ms. Conley win and stand up, along with people like Mark Kelly, to show what military and enforcement should be.
The problem with these recycled candidates is there’s no term limits. Term limiting is one way of preventing bad candidates and bad policies from staying in place for way too long.

Maine is the whitest state in the country. Good luck with that.

I don’t have money to. I can barely pay my bills as it is.

I don't want some 70YO+ millionaire/billionaire+ in charge. I say that as a trained psychologist and educator. (Not a bernie sanders fan.)

I want voters skilled enough to know when someone is too old. How hard can that be?
She does seem old enough to tell right from wrong, a rare comodity in politics today.
