"The Republican Party tolerates — if it does not actively endorse — his racism. Those who normalize him enable racism. His agenda is grounded in racism."
Also worth noting that even though Trump has been granted some immunity by the Supreme Court, his jesters and bootlickers have not.
Once he's gone, we need verdicts in both the "court of public opinion" as well as courts of LAW to put some of these criminal henchmen away, for a good long time.
Or sued by states till they are permanently bankrupt and reviled by all.
Quite true. The 'figurehead' (Trump) may be gone, but the advisors and promulgators of project 2025 will still be around and must be brought to account. The cabinet secretaries immediately come to mind, as do Stephen Miller and Russell Vought. Mouthpieces like Susie Wiles and Karoline Leavitt should join them.
It will take some time to dig all these rats out of their holes in the government. A first step of the new Congress should be to appoint an anti-Doge to fumigate the administration.
There don't seem to be any good ones at this point as the Department of Justice has been corrupted and won't prosecute them for their criminal activities. A change in the majority in Congress might help to slow them down or dull their impacts. It's something to hope and work for.
The majority of the Republican Party lawmakers have violated their oath of office.
They should be considered "traitors" to the Consititution they swore to uphold.
They should be thrown out of Congress, handcuffed into a detention center and
then lined up against a wall.
I don't want them "getting bail", going on "podcasts" or media defending their right to a "fair trial". They should get the same "trial" that ICE gave Renee Good
They have been violating their oaths since Reagan. We must fight to ensure that ALL who have purposely hurt our country PAY for what they've done to this nation. NO EXCUSES. NO FORGIVENESS. Nuremberg trials lasted for decades for a reason. Billionaires need to forfeit their money to begin to cover all of the damage. EVERY person involved in the Epstein abuse of children needs to go to jail. We need to do this for the sake of the next generations. IT MEANS CITIZENS CAN NO LONGER HIDE FROM THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES TO VOTE AND TO PAY ATTENTION TO OUR DEMOCRACY. Finally, we need a strong Fairness Doc that demands facts & evidence in news reporting. No more opinions & beliefs being used as if they were all possible. NO ONE'S OPINION TRUMPS FACTS. Thinking that one's opinion is true is why measles is spreading.
Watch the new movie/documentary, "Nuremberg". It is available on Prime, but I am sure there are other outlets.
Unlike the TRUMP- MAGA regime, we should cling to reverence for LAW. There needs to be a Nuremberg-like trial in the United States to bring those who enable the Trump Atrocities to justice. Hitler died by suicide. Trump will die of natural causes, but their henchmen then as now need to face Justice!
The ONLY people who can stop this are the citizens of this country. They had TWO chances already to keep this from ever happening. They were too racist, too misogynistic, or too ignorant to vote for HRC or Harris. That this happened in 2024 when NO ONE had an excuse not to see who T is, it broke me. NOW the power of the vote may be taken away. Although the Save Act has not passed Congress, some GOP states appear to be using a part of it. In No Carolina, 400000+ notices were sent out to citizens who need to verify any name changes (99% of whom are women).
If blame needs handed round, (and there's plenty of it) go after Mitch McConnell, who, as leader of the U.S. Senate failed twice to hold responsible trials to convict and remove Trump after the House handed him (and them) the articles of impeachment. He would not have been able to run in 2020 and wouldn't be president today.
Very true! McConnell refused 100's of Obama's appointments for federal judges, then denied him the appointment of a SC justice which he gave to T to start his first term. At the end of T's term, he reversed his 'logic' for denying Obama and gave a second SC appointment to T so that Biden would not have it.
The GOP of today is RACIST. Eisenhower would NOT recognize them as his party. The history of how they got to be here is interesting. Kinzinger, et al, like to claim that the GOP is the party of Lincoln. That is false. The Party of Lincoln does NOT exist any more. Look up the Fusion Party and what happened to the parties during the Civil Rights era.
The owners of most corporations control all industries. They are rich, white, greedy racist males. Small businesses will again be disappearing because the GOP is in power. There are a few good guys, but THEY are not the ones at the top.
I hear you and as a Patriots fan I am glad that Kraft lost. But if dollars and cents means inclusion, and causes Trump to shit his pants, I will not complain for a second. Tim Cook should pay more attention to the dollars and cents argument.
I’m Not either, anything that makes MAGA snowflakes cry like this did makes me smile. Having a Spanish language show while all this is going on was something to behold.
But we shouldn’t forget what the NFL did to Kaepernick and his allies, or what most of the owners and many players support too.
But you have to realize that these gazillionaires will be just fine if Trump drives the country into bankruptcy. They have billions in off-shore accounts and in places all over the world. They are not relying on the Treasury as the rest of us are.
They will never go "broke". You can stop buying everything, they will still survive.
The NFL like other sports has been trying to expand to a global audience for decades so having a globally popular star was nod to that effort. But I agree with Robert that if it also tweaks Trumps nose at the same time I'm all for it although I think Green Day may have been the real tweak since they were announced after the MAGAt backlash to Bad Bunny. "OK, you didn't like our choice for halftime? Well how about an All-American, all white band to do the opening...enjoy!"
I am under no illusion about NFL owners. As I said I never imagined they would sponsor a show like that. However maybe Seattle ownership is an exception to the general ownership profile.
They're not agents of resistance. They allow Rob Kraft and Steve Tisch, both Epstein Island gold card members, to be owners and featured on TV during the Super Bowl. The NFL is nothing more than an ATM to the Epstein Class of American businesses. Apparently, we now have the "Trump" class of battleships and the "Epstein" Class of American businesses.
I wouldn't give them too much credit for recognizing the world wide economic appeal of Bad Bunny. After all they every day in every way are about providing and growing their product. The dog whistle has become an audible.
Speaking of the NFL....I just stumbled across this, and what an interesting point is made here, describing how the NFL runs its business as "socialism" versus the capitalism run amuck that we experience: https://hartmannreport.com/p/the-nfl-is-socialist-on-purpose-and-c98
"For capitalism to work in a way that doesn’t produce oligarchs and monopolies, it must be regulated. Capitalism, after all, is just a game that people play using money and mutually agreed-upon rules. Just like football...
The NFL figured out something America forgot after Reagan: markets only work when rules prevent the powerful from rigging the game....
In other words, the NFL is a regulated market with enforced rules that prevent monopolies, protect labor, and preserve competition. And because of that, small-market teams can win, dynasties don’t last forever, and fans get a fair game...
The NFL doesn’t regulate football because it hates competition: it regulates football and “redistributes” wealth and opportunity so competition can exist at all. America once did the same thing with capitalism, and the result was the greatest middle class the world had ever seen."
I love this analogy because it's so easily understood.
OMG. THANK YOU. So many people have NO CLUE about regulated and unregulated capitalism. The best economies occur with regulated capitalism accompanied with programs that help the public (schools, libraries) and assist those in need. The worst economies occur with unregulated capitalism and insufficient help for the public and those in need. Guess which one the GOP has used since Reagan: unregulated capitalism & less for the public and those in need. The news media has been lying FOR THE GOP, when it says the GOP is better for the economy. The fact is that their economic policies ONLY enrich the rich while hurting the rest of us.
As long as black athletes continue to go to the WH after winning a major championship, they show they're alright with being discriminated against. Let's see what the Seahawks will do.
You can see variants of that photo accompanying this article all throughout the South and rural areas. Dumb dweebs who put the Stars and Stripes on top of the Stars and Bars -- forgetting that hundreds of thousands fighting for the Stars and Stripes DIED to quash the Stars and Bars and everything it stood for.
How people can choose to forget this, soft-pedal it, pretend it was something other than exactly what it was, I'll never understand.
They have a gauzy faux-nostalgia view of the ole’ confederacy and some idea that “you cain’t tell a southern man what to do!” The memory doesn’t include what a shithole country the temporary confederacy really was, with its income stratification, rampant poverty, and worthless currency.
I see plenty confederate flags up here in New England. One house in Ashby Ma. has a trump flag, a confederate flag, a "Don't Tread on Me" flag, and ironically, a U.S. flag.
As a youth, I encountered the Samuel Johnson aphorism that "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." It was difficult for me to discern the meaning of people who used those words in isolation. But, as you highlighted, it's not hard to see the meaning now.
Incidentally, some say Johnson was referring to a political party that dared to claim the mantle of "The Patriot Party."
I'm afraid you're right about extremists on "the right." Much of the commentary about this issue seems to be missing the most important point and the most fundamental principles (which actually were captured by the photo accompanying this piece). When Trump and his mouthpiece tell the truth, we should listen.
Trump admitted this particular video was all about how Trump sees himself as the "King." He says, "The Lion King," but the point is "The King." His mouthpiece admitted “This is" about presenting "President Trump as the King" and about presenting America as "the Jungle."
This is far from mere racism. This is most fundamentally about domination by a self-proclaimed king based on race and color. This is (as Trump and Leavitt openly admitted) about a self-proclaimed king and his power in an America that they want us to see as a mere "jungle." Trump and his supporters are all about the domination of a self-proclaimed king dominating people he perceives (and wants us to see) as apes.
The Heritage Society (Thiel) and many very rich white greedy men have been trying for decades to move us back to the Gilded Age. They want to control all of the money, all of the gov't. They want POC and women to be under their control. This didn't start with T. The plan started to unfold for real with Reagan.
On another note...Pete Hegseth (yuk) is going to be at Bath Iron Works in Bath Maine today. Horrors. However, I and many, many others will be on the bridge in front of BIW protesting his "existence"...oops I meant his presence in Maine.
It is wonderful that you will be letting Hegseth how we feel about him.
It reminds me of the reception VP Vance and wife were treated at the Milan-Cortina Olympics.
I loved reading that Vance and his wife were boo-d at the Olympics. The media reported that, that moment was not recorded or shared by NBC in their filming. That would have been delightful to see. The crowd cheered for the American Olympians.
And by the way, I wanted to comment on the Washington Post "murder"; In my view, DJT
whispered into Jeff's ear..."It would make me very happy if the WP disappeared".
Jeff, a great Trump synchphant did it by decimating the staff and claiming in was a
financial decision. Think of all the money he was willing to throw away in producing the
Melania film that is just good at earning a Rotten Tomatoes Award.
I've probably posted at least a dozen time to the effect of what Jenn says here. Don the Con has been a blatant racist at least for all his adult life, going back to the 70s when the US Government sued him and his father for refusing to rent to African-Americans-- and the government won the suit when Don the Con and Daddy Con settled.
The only way he could be more obvious about it would be if he showed up in a white sheet and hood. And the Bumpkins, Morons, Yahoos, Misogynists, Bigots, Racists, Rubes and Boobs of Red America know exactly what Don the Con means, and love him for it!
He also knows how to play those cards. I remember reading an account of how he actually market tested what riled people the most about Obama. He then latched on to the birth certificate hysteria and moved on to immigration and other hot topics..
Republicans have had a racist undercurrent going back decades. Southern Strategy under Nixon, Reagan in Philadelphia, MS, Reagan welfare queens, George H. W. Bush & Willie Horton. Hiding in plain sight.
Tolerating racism is endorsing it. Trump has never hidden his real attitude others. He has always hated people of color and women. Only those who willfully turn aside and hide their eyes don’t see the truth, and, unfortunately the many who like his racist, sexist outlook. I suspect there are other groups on his hate list; if given the opportunity he will turn on anyone and everyone unless they can benefit him and his family. But I would also say, at some point even his family isn’t safe. This is a man without any moral compass coupled with bottomless greed for money and power; his corruption and his ability to corrupt are without limit.
Not sure that Orange "hates" women. He just see them as objects. Powerful men love to have harems of beautiful women to show how strong and virile they are.
Yes, I agree with you about powerful men, but I find Trump to have another layer of disdain on top of his objectification. I find him to be pathological in his hate.
Misogyny is the degradation and hatred of women. The objectification of women, beautiful or not, is also hatred. As documented in the Epstein files, the girls and women who were "selected" to be a part of Epstein's "harem" were subjected to physical and psychological abuse -- some even loss of their lives.
I've been reading and listening a lot on the Epstein files. It is beyond horrifying! A graveyard of girls and women on one of Epstein's properties, girls being killed during sex...women are just sexual objects not human beings in the Epstein fraternity. I hope they all are brought to justice...sadly I have my doubts.
DJT is quoted that he now has not just a model but also a movie star! His property! For his so-called image! Just a trophy. And the trophy gets what she wants, evidently, a cushy life with nothing to do but spend money. Having no integrity helps make it bearable if not enjoyable.
In its own way the virulent misogyny of these men is worse than "hate." Hate may be reserved for people viewed as their equal, e.g. white men. Women are nothing more than service and breeding animals.
"The evidence of Trump’s abject bigotry has been out in the open for decades..."
It goes back farther than the Central Park 5. Don and daddy Fred were held to task in New York for refusing to rent to Blacks. He (Trump) learned it from his dad, and any weak man posing as a bully has more than a tendency to use these tactics to make a small man larger. Trump may be president, but he is not the president for all of our people, and that gets more plain every day. It shouldn't take his agency's murder of two of our citizens to make it clear.
This! Next chance - March 3rd is the special election to replace MTG. If you can make a small contribution, we might just pull off an upset and keep another hardcore MAGAt out of Congress. Go to Shawn Harris on ActBlue.
How can we interpret John Roberts’s decades long effort to undo the Civil Rights legislation of the 1960s as not being at least partly due to the same racism that Trump has coasted on?
I have been flabbergasted by the number of people whom I thought were my friends who cannot bring themselves to condemn Trump on racism! (I live in a very red part of Kentucky.) It's denial, obfuscation, then "whataboutism".
Tim Scott didn't call Trump a racist. A close paraphrase of what he said about that disgusting video is "I hope this is fake. If not, this is the most racist thing I've seen come out of the White House." He didn't mention Trump by name, or even reference "the President." Scott, like virtually every other Republican office holder who might disagree with Trump, has internalized the idea that any direct criticism of Trump is an attack on Trump, and any attack on Trump is an attack on their MAGA base. So coward that he is he equivocated, just like they all do. If no one in the GOP is willing to call out Trump by name for these outrages it makes it that much easier for the mainstream media to look the other way.
I noted this too and watching Face the Nation when Margaret Brennan was trying to get Gonzales to acknowledge Trump's racism he just tap danced around it like they all do. So I know JR wants the press put turn the heat up, I don't see it doing anything but generating more manure.
tRump and his fellow Oligarchs want to normalize his racism, misogyny and white nationalism so we can more easily be propagandized into the serf class they desire. But the funny thing about serfs is they are smart enough to be able to build guillotines...
And I expect the majority of oligarchs are hardcore racists too. This belief system has been around in the South since before the US existed and is deeply, deeply ingrained in the minds of far too many people.
I have noticed during my 71 year tenure on this Earth that most, but not all people who are well off think it is because they are superior beings instead of just lucky.
By not calling him out on it, “legacy” media(aka scared old media) is enabling Trump’s racism. So anti-racism is potentially “woke” ? Damn straight it is woke, and we had better all be proudly woke, before we are not allowed to wake up. The right stole this term and have tried mightily to make it a pejorative, let’s take it back. This is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, religiously diverse country. We cannot allow a bunch of white guys and an orange guy to make it into something else, like a white authoritarian pseudo- christian hellhole.
Totally agree with your statement. It is way past time for all of us to 'wake up' and become 'woke'. We have been a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, religiously diverse continent since Rodger Williams broke away from the Puritans and founded the colony of Rhode Island in 1636, and it is time to reclaim with pride that THAT is our inheritance and not the memory of the Old South.
The news media is not scared. It has been increasingly in the pockets of the GOP since Reagan ended the Fairness Doc. Hitler's first step was to control all the news media and have them report on all of the "bad things" the Jews were doing. Think back to how they stopped using facts & evidence in their reporting and switched to repeating opinions and beliefs - OF THE GOP.
Never thought the NFL would be an agent of resistance against this racist dictator.
It's high time that businesses stood up to Trump and his treatment of the people.
"The Republican Party tolerates — if it does not actively endorse — his racism. Those who normalize him enable racism. His agenda is grounded in racism."
Also worth noting that even though Trump has been granted some immunity by the Supreme Court, his jesters and bootlickers have not.

Each one can be impeached. They have all violated the Constitution and our laws.

They should be thrown out of Congress, handcuffed into a detention center and

That's not a bad idea, but who or what agency is going to make such a move? Those in charge of such law enforcement have been co-opted and corrupted.
Watch the new movie/documentary, "Nuremberg". It is available on Prime, but I am sure there are other outlets.

Why? They obviously agree with it, as long as they can fill their coffers.
It isn’t, it’s strictly dollars and cents. The NFL is trying to attract Latino viewers by hosting a massively popular musician.
Still, it was a welcome change to halftime and a great performance.
The NFL is still dominated by hard line Trump supporters like Robert Kraft.
I hear you and as a Patriots fan I am glad that Kraft lost. But if dollars and cents means inclusion, and causes Trump to shit his pants, I will not complain for a second. Tim Cook should pay more attention to the dollars and cents argument.

The boycott of ABC over Kimmel's suspension was successful. They backed down quickly when many people dropped their subscriptions.
Agree

I think you are mistaken, I don't believe they are. Don't forget how they banned Kaepernick.
Almost nobody among our oligarch class is standing up against Trump.
I am under no illusion about NFL owners. As I said I never imagined they would sponsor a show like that. However maybe Seattle ownership is an exception to the general ownership profile.
Some people won’t change, so they’ll just have to be pushed by economics I guess….did I read the NFL is trying to force Jody Allen to sell the team?
AI says a sale is planned per Paul Allen’s wish. I don’t know about the dynamics.
Did anyone lose money over Kaepernick?
I wouldn't go that far. It's all about the $.
No argument. They are unwitting agents of resistance.
I wouldn't give them too much credit for recognizing the world wide economic appeal of Bad Bunny. After all they every day in every way are about providing and growing their product. The dog whistle has become an audible.
I’m hardly giving them credit. Maybe I should have said “unwitting” agents.

Thanks for getting out there!
Thank you
I've probably posted at least a dozen time to the effect of what Jenn says here.
Ivan you are correct. Right on target.
I remember being horrified when he fired all the black Generals in the Army.
I wondered at the time....Why wasn't there an outcry at that action.....
Wouldn't it have been wonderful if some Black millionaires had taken a full page in the
NY Times --- with photos and bios of the fired Generals --- and calling it racist.
I assumed he thought, or knew he would have a problem getting the Black Generals
to work with ICE in attacking the latino population.
We keep acting so civilized when dealing with a man with no filters - who says and
does whatever comes to his egotistical mind. The latest is his wish to have an
exhibit throughout the Smithsonian of pictures of him that he has been receiving
from his devotees. I'm sure one of the artists isn't Hunter Biden.
Stay strong and thank you CONTRARIAN for letting us all speak freely in this country
where Freedom of Speech is being challenged every day by DJT and his cohort.
He also knows how to play those cards. I remember reading an account of how he actually market tested what riled people the most about Obama. He then latched on to the birth certificate hysteria and moved on to immigration and other hot topics..
Agreed! You can't be a Republican and not support racism currently.
Republicans have had a racist undercurrent going back decades. Southern Strategy under Nixon, Reagan in Philadelphia, MS, Reagan welfare queens, George H. W. Bush & Willie Horton. Hiding in plain sight.
Agreed. Now it is not an undercurrent, it is blatant.
But being seen is "an object", in my experience, has denied my humanity on every level. I have experienced as akin to hate.
In its own way the virulent misogyny of these men is worse than "hate." Hate may be reserved for people viewed as their equal, e.g. white men. Women are nothing more than service and breeding animals.
And DJT has a model and a movie star, so he says!
Racism is the means, oligarchical and dictatorial goals are the end.
I think it's rich that he called Tim Scott after his disgusting Obama post. To say what? Can't you take a joke ? It was all in fun?
I sure appreciated Hakeem Jeffries very blunt and to the point statement of outrage, mirroring my sentiments exactly.
First order of business is to get rid of MAGA. Within a matter of hours, Hakeem Jeffries (or someone like Don Bacon) could be Speaker of the House
https://jerryweiss.substack.com/
This! Next chance - March 3rd is the special election to replace MTG. If you can make a small contribution, we might just pull off an upset and keep another hardcore MAGAt out of Congress. Go to Shawn Harris on ActBlue.
Here’s my question:
How can we interpret John Roberts’s decades long effort to undo the Civil Rights legislation of the 1960s as not being at least partly due to the same racism that Trump has coasted on?
I have been flabbergasted by the number of people whom I thought were my friends who cannot bring themselves to condemn Trump on racism! (I live in a very red part of Kentucky.) It's denial, obfuscation, then "whataboutism".
Yes, and family members too. Millions of families won't come together for holidays like they did before trump. Mine included.
That is very hard, Stephen. Same here. It opened my eyes for sure.
How about agreement....
Yes, legacy media should be unsubscribed until they call a racist a racist.
tRump and his fellow Oligarchs want to normalize his racism, misogyny and white nationalism so we can more easily be propagandized into the serf class they desire.
Thank you for the reminder!
