A brilliant and scary analysis of the gall of this "president" and his devious, disaster-to-democracy loyalists. It makes me more than a little furious. How the Republican Party can decide that representing their constituent interests is not their job ... they would prefer a lifetime appointment, so their constituents are stuck with them, is outrageous, given that most of them are attorneys who have taken an oath of office. If Republicans want to be reelected they need to do their job. It is heinous, traitorous to the democratic principles that founded our nation, that they would rather just "cheat," limiting in every way possible which of their constituents will be able to vote, and have their vote counted. Simply put, it is cheating, cheating the democratic system, cheating the public that their vote means anything. Of course states are being cued by this corrupt administration, and of course, they will gleefully oblige by changing their election rules ... hoping that by the time courts receive legal challenges, it will be too late. Thank you for your sobering anticipation of what we are up against! Trump does not want to experience what Orban did, so he will pull whatever shenanigans he can to win back a Republican majority.
I have already seen some of the dumbest political ads about the border and about Muslims and how both are threats to our elections and our Christian faith that it just reeks of racism. I wouldn’t be surprised if they delete voter names just because of some unfounded accusations or assumptions about those voters.
The more Trump tries to suppress votes, the more determined I am to make sure my vote gets counted. It is indicative that Trump & the GOP only view voters as the means to get unfettered power. They know that the backlash against the GOP has reached super majority. Instead of representing their constituents, they just want to lie and cheat. The GOP are abusers, not representives of the people.
"Above all else, the Trump administration is on a mission to convince Americans that our elections are broken. "
Outside of the fact that this latest atrocity of an executive order is unconstitutional, it's also the worst case of election tampering/meddling that's been tried so far. It's time for Congress and the state Election Commissions to reassert their authority. Tell Trump that he's out of place in thinking that he can take over the election process. Get this to the courts forthwith in order to clear the path for the November elections.
This got my alarm bells ringing! 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🔥. What can we DO! it’s insane how unequal it all is. In Oregon we get ballots in the mail, vote at home, send back. SO EASY and safe. Can we nationalize mail in voting when we get control? and make election day a holiday?
I think this issue should be front and center perpetually, both regarding the midterms and the next Presidential election. We, the citizens, are really the last and best bastion of resistance, along with the judiciary. We can forget about the Congress and White House for now.
The Constitution was functionally abolished when the WH Crime Boss was allowed to go free after January 6th, 2021. All norms of fairnesss, decency, and law was murdered by the Congressional MAGA Mob Majority. Until they are taken out the Constitution will not be enforced.
It's going to take a combination of blue wave or unprecidented proportions and civil unrest to remove Republicans from power. They will not surrender power peacefully, their recent track record is quite clear. Fellow citizens be prepared to defend this democracy. It will take everything we've got, and to be honest I don't think as a nation we are anywhere close to ready for what's ahead.
Above all else, the Trump administration is on a mission to convince Americans that our elections are broken.
This reminds me of a quote, often attributed to Nazi Propaganda Minister Josef Goebbels, although according to wikiquote there's no documentation that he ever said or wrote it:
If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it. You will even come to believe it yourself!
That's Don the Con's goal-- he's repeated that lie for 10 years now, and at least some of us have been suckered into believing it. The crazy part is that I suspect that Don the Con has even managed to convince himself that it's true!
