One of the ripples from the large stone thrown into the pond will be a wave of terrorist attacks on US soil from a vengeful Iran. Since our current regime deliberately disabled our antiterrorism infrastructure over the past year, we are very vulnerable. One attack can set the stage for declaring a national emergency and sending out the military to prevent the 2026 midterm elections. See Mar 8 analysis by Prof. Timothy Snyder.

If we're not careful, Trump will send in Rudy Giuliani to "protect" us in the aftermath. Now there's a sham--America's mayor turned out to be a sociopath after all.

Judith, you are right. Additionally, thinking of disasters, I recall that the person has made cuts to FEMA as well as financial cuts to particular states whose voters and governors are not supportive of his wishes. The financial allowances are not his to cut since Congress is in charge of our country’s monetary system, but we know how that has been going. We have so much responsibility to have upheld.

"Trump wants to be known as the President who killed the Supreme Leader of Iran."

What he will be known as is a man who destabilized a region of the world, created international and domestic chaos and mayhem, and did his best to unravel our democracy. What he thinks, and how historians will treat him are entirely different. What we think of him now is also far from his dream.

It makes no sense that anyone eould want to be known as the killer of anyone. Still, tragically, cruelly, many lives have been taken in this past year and into this year.

The 'no sense' is evidence of his diseased and damaged mind. He thinks himself stonger by making others smaller, in in this case, so small as to no longer exist.

Exactly what I felt. Bibi talked Trump into being the big man/king and going against Iran. We’re burdening future generations of Americans to bear the anguish of this war. We have the most stupid president and cabinet ever.

"Yeah, we have an additional 80 million barrels of Venezuelan oil ..."

So just like that we've moved beyond the illegal military takeover of another country's natural resources?

Venezuela counts as proper previous planning for disruptions in the oil supply caused by war with Iran?

Trump's drops more and more scary hints about Cuba - and Cuba gets barely a nod here.

The truest statement in this conversation was that Israel counts 70,000 Palestinian dead and Israel and the US have suffered no cost or consequence for this "staggering death toll".

There is no truthful press coverage allowed to come from Israel. There are rumors of many killed and much property destroyed as Iranian drones have disrupted Israel's defensive measures. We need more accurate reports.

Agree about need for better coverage from Israel. And I am sure you are right that Iranian strikes are causing real harms to Israel.

However I understood the statement about "suffering no cost or consequence" as meaning Israel suffered no loss of US political and military support from its actions in Gaza.

Miller’s use of the metaphor Israel is Mars and we’re Venus was quite an interesting yet effective analogy. Israel is capable of suffocating Iran with what’s in their arsenal but the U.S. is capable of crushing them much like space travel to Mars and Venus. This was a fascinating interview with an erudite guest and his willingness to complement Jen on her interview prowess at the beginning and end of this interview just says everything about this foreign policy expert.

I was troubled by Mr Miller’s comments re exchanging risk readiness for risk aversion. I may have misunderstood his meaning.

"In everybody's face" perfect.

This is such a fine discussion! David Miller is so direct and comprehensible, I am only now discovering him through you, Jen, so thank you, as usual. I feel so gratified not to be the omly one befuddled by Bibi and the aims of the war.

Jen, Aaron David Miller is right with his compliment regarding your interviewing technique. I thoroughly appreciate you both and hearing these perspectives. Than you!

Very interesting interview…thanks! Would love to hear him with Timothy Snyder in an interview together!
