"By filing a claim with the Justice Department, Trump is now seeking approval from the very same lawyers he appointed to their positions...."

It will be surprising if he does not get his $230 million considering the people who will be making the decision to distribute OUR money to Trump. Ethics be damned, there have been almost as many violations/ingnoring of them as Trump has told lies. There have been and continue to be no consequences. This is called corruption, and it is rampant.

If we had leaders in DOJ that had any integrity or sense of justice, they would take their removal from office as a badge of honor. Of course, there is no integrity in the leadership at DOJ. Bondi's lips are firmly attached to Trump's rear end and the rest of the leadership is no better. I fully expect the Prez will get his $230 million not matter what the Constitution, rule of law or common sense may say. Corruption reigns in the Trump regime!

Liane paap's avatar

I agree. Sadly they have lied, broken all the rules, and could not care less about our Constitution. They get away with everything and they definitely don’t care about us, the people, unless you’re a very rich white person, preferably a man. They are corrupt to the core!

dagmar karppi's avatar

And don't forget that the Poster Boy for Republicans that Trump recently pardoned.

DJT said Santos might have done some bad things but he voted Replican and that is all that matters.

Nancy's avatar

I didn't hear that, but no surprise! Be you trickster, thief, criminal, or supporter of other heinous acts, it's fine as long as you like DJT. We're definitely in the depths....

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

It started when Kellyann Conway made the Hatch Act a running joke, and they haven't stopped ignoring their obligations to the people since.

As farmers, factory, dock workers, construction, hospitality, trucking, food service, and more government employees, teachers, health care workers along with everybody else who voted for this fool, loose the ability to feed, house and take care of their families maybe, just maybe, they will wake up and realize p47 doesn’t give a rat’s ass about them or anyone else. But I’m not going to hold my breath. They've drank the Kool-aid and will never admit to his corruption and selfishness.

Steve 218's avatar

This seems correct to a point, but...at the last No Kings rally in this small town in south central Illinois, I noticed several people in the crowd carrying signs in support of the mission. These were the same people who I saw who used to display TRUMP signage in their yards. Does this mean cracks are beginning?

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

Wow, I so appreciate when people pay attention. Thank you, Steve, for noticing how your neighbors behave. This is how we both hold people accountable and embrace them for changing their minds.

Curtis P's avatar

I certainly hope so. I’ve read reports from various news outlets, (The Guardian, BBC, NYT and AP) that many who’ve voted for the scumbag said they didn’t vote for what’s happening. High tariffs (high prices), cruel immigration arrests, self-serving, blatant corruption, the desecration of the White House and an administration filled with the most unqualified sycophants and sociopaths this country has ever seen.

I attended the No Kings protest in Portland, Oregon, there were many elderly people using walkers, families with small children in strollers, Korean and Vietnam veterans and everyone in between at the peaceful rally. The city is not “war ravage” nor “burning to the ground”.

The protests at the ICE facility, about 6 miles from downtown, is mostly 20-40 people in costumes. The Portland Police have arrested about 60 people for not dispersing and some vandalizing of the building, but that was in June and has since been mostly peaceful.

Steve 218's avatar

You attend to the same news sources that I do (also Heather Cox Richardson, Robert Reich, and Dan Rather on Substack). You also forgot to mention the forthcoming effects of the cuts on Medicaid, SNAP, WIC and ACA benefits. People get unhappy and seek change when the benefits that they need dry up. Hopefully this will also affect the "but I didn't vote for this" outlook, and foment change. It's good to get reports like this from people at the scene.

The summaries always help, Norm. Thank you. We are not done.

We are FAR from done. Democracy is too important!

So Trump is attempting to extort $230M from the government. And he WILL be successful because laws do not apply to him and those who are supposed to recuse themselves won't and other decision-makers are too scared to say no.

Steve 218's avatar

Your only error is in the word 'government'. Replace it wih 'us' or 'the people': It's taxpayer money - ours.

MARTHA ESKEW's avatar

We, the resistance, want the judiciary to save us from this crook. Trump always had only one motivation, and that was to empty the coffers of the US into his own pocket. He has never had any regard for the law so I’m not sure why we think the legal system can work now. Maybe it’s time for the first US coup.

Steve 218's avatar

Trump has his proverbial thumb on the scales of both the Department of Justice and the Supine Court. They aren't likely to be much salvation.

dagmar karppi's avatar

How awful to have to agree to a coup. Just who would do it. What about those Army generals who listened and did not clap for the Trumpian comments? I am terrified at what Trump is doing in every aspect of his rule. Especially since it is by destroying the rule of law.

Why are we not:

1. Doing a large class action suit against the destroyer for the destruction of our house, not his…place a cease and desist order out now!

2. Whether it was 7, 8 or 12 million who joined the NO Kings Rally…if we all gave $1. Or even $12 to the ACLU or other legal non-profit, The people could bring a class action suit

3. We could sue the AG for being a traitor to the constitution and for breach of contract…she is to be protecting the people not the convicted felon, rapist, presumed pedophile and protector of pedophiles…She is not OUR attorney…she has overstepped her bounds and should be disbarred

4. Keep the eyes on Epstein Files and join the suit against Mike Johnson who should be fired for not doing his job…withholding his pay and his medical insurance….He either swears in the Arizona Congresswoman this week, do his job, stop bending his knee and sucking up to an anti-Christian, criminal…(It’s almost impossible to believe this is happening, no one would believe that a supposed upstanding Christian would be behaving this way for such immoral behavior)…he’s either getting some favors or he simply a corrupt hypocritical person.

5. National Strike! Farmers Unite…he’s trying to bankrupt you by buying Argentinian Beef… Strike…he’s undercutting his own constituents..MAGA he’s screwing you, who he called basement dwellers…higher medical plan, food prices out of control, rents thoroughly the roof and immoral, criminally raping our treasury, destroying our house, protecting criminal pedophiles, creating the Gestapo made up of Sadistic people, allowing a sociopath who is from an immigrant family who sought safety in this country, to destroy families…destroying our public health….If I were writing a novel no one would believe it… the chaos and destruction, the in right in front of our eyes corruption with zero remorse…just glee and how he and his family and sycophant cronies got rich off our backs. it will be quite the story for the ages…And it will be our destruction as a people and as a country if we don’t do something NOW!

Just waiting for someone to file motions for Thomas and Alito to recuse.

I am compelled to repost'

It only takes a few Congressional Republicans to stop Trump. See Jerry Weiss https://jerryweiss.substack.com/

Trumpepstein may be the vehicle to bring Congressional Republicans to their senses. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) tweeted about an "Epstein bomb" about to drop; over 100 Republican members might "jailbreak" from Trump.

Can we add the name of Chief Justice Roberts to the list, along with Thomas and Alito.

He presided over Trump's impealchent trail without any witnesses. That to my mind shows just where he stands. He is firmly in Trump's corner and has abandoned impartial thinking.

Whatever the King wants, he gets.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Maybe. I feel that the managers failed to 1. voir dire the senate -- some were consp[irators - all were witnesses. 2. failed to take advantage of Pence and others who were threatened.

In order to bring a viable motion, need facts that can be verified. The issue is bias and or prejudice. Both Thomas and Alito have violated the financial disclosure, ethics rules. Whether Roberts has is arguable, not proven.

Kathy Sowers's avatar

I've wondered about the class actions too. You articulated this really well, thank you!

Patricia Dempsey's avatar

I am so disgusted by the administration and its evil I could spit! I've cried most of the week as the symbolism of the ripping apart of the East Wing equates to the ripping apart of our democracy is like a punch in the gut. I have little faith that by the time next November rolls around there will be any relief because the Republicans are still trying to cheat to win with the push for more congressional seats. There clearly need to be some laws in place (please, God, let us win the day next November so that we can make changes to laws to stop all this!) that will put a stop to it. Maybe redistricting only at the census and not several years in just to advantage one party over the other. And that applies to both parties, by the way. There also needs to be something done about a House Speaker who can keep the House out of Washington for what amounts to months at a time. We're going on six weeks now since he sent everybody home and the newest representative from AZ cannot work for her constituents and he seems to think that's perfectly alright. At one point he said that she was doing nothing for her constituents... selective memory, since she cannot perform any functions in that new capacity since SHE HASN'T BEEN SWORN IN! The founders certainly had nothing like this in mind!

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

Notice that you invoked winning an election and putting regulatory laws in place instead of just plain cheating. Difference between Democrats and Republicans, or should I say, decent people and rats.

Mark Epping-Jordan's avatar

"Finally, execution of a lawful search warrant almost never leads to compensation unless federal agents cause bodily injury or serious damage to property. That did not occur at Trump’s Florida residence."

Not only that, but the FBI bent over backwards not to make any sort of spectacle of the search of Mar-a-Lago, doing things they would never do for any other person. 1. They made sure Trump was not there at the time. 2. They did not wear their FBI windbreakers. 3. They did not search a locked closet nor demand it be unlocked.

This was after many good faith efforts by NARA and the FBI to get Trump to voluntarily return the documents, something that both Joe Biden and Mike Pence did. Trump clearly lied repeatedly about having the documents and claiming he had returned them all - this is not speculation, there were documents signed on his behalf claiming everything had been returned before the search. Again, no one else would have been afforded such deference in a case involving classified documents, especially at the level many of them were, who was clearly lying and who was caught red-handed with them.

Emily Ravits's avatar

Please help us understand if the American Bar Association can provide further guardrails for the lawyers who are clearly not ethical! How can these lawyers continue to have licenses ?? It seems so obvious that this would be an effective vehicle for monitoring their licenses!!!!

James Axtell's avatar

There is not a single Republican member of Congress willing to stand up and call out Trump's abuses, whether in his financial demands, his destruction of the East Wing, or his murders on the high seas. Not a single one with any moral courage at all. Vote them all out.

Jeff's avatar

You are sadly mostly correct, but Rand Paul has been vocal in calling out the murders on the high seas.

Susan Friend's avatar

Trump, Bondi, Blanche -- the list goes on forever: all are corrupt and belong in prison for their endless misdeeds.

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

Somehow, Rudy escaped. Remember when he went rogue as a foreign lobbyist to extort folks in Ukraine? It never ended with that greasy man.

Bill terKuile's avatar

"If Bondi and Blanche sit by and permit the abuse of the department’s authorities and assist in facilitating such payments, they will have failed their obligations to uphold the Constitution, to represent the interests of the government, and to ensure that their subordinates follow the law."

In other words, they will have done exactly what they were put in office to do.

There is no more "shock" in this entire regime. The assumption MUST be that it is a gang, whose every impulse and action is criminal. To call it "unconstitutional" is being fatally polite.

Publications like The Contrarian are compiling the evidence files for a hoped for future prosecution of all involved.

pmpmpm's avatar

Norman, The contrarian have done a great job informing us and waging legal battles, but the coup into dictatorships continues unabated.

How about each day writing an article about the 10 most effective things we can do to restore democracy? Attached it at the end of all your daily posts? Action is needed, not just intellectualization.

I really think we are at the point of needing a national strike to force change as half of congress is full on with the maga coup with dictator trump. Their swearing an oath means nothing.

Mike Bechler's avatar

It appears to me that they have set things up so that whatever you or I might do carries two types of risk. First, they will come after you individually, and second, they will use it as an excuse to tighten their control and move closer to martial law.

I wish it weren't so, and I'd love to hear an alternative, even if it carries some individual risk, as long as it doesn't serve as an excuse to move closer to martial law. Norman?

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

Just repeating my above reply in case you didn't see it: Norm is busy! Better to join Indivisible/No Kings; they have actionable steps that build on our previous small successes. That's how you get big change. https://www.nokings.org/next

So Norm, WADR, as we sit today, how is it possible for you to write "If Bondi and Blanche sit by and permit the abuse of the department’s authorities ...they will have failed their obligations to uphold the Constitution, to represent the interests of the government, and to ensure that their subordinates follow the law." with meaning? Surely, Bondi, along with Trump and all the others in the long and growing line of co-conspirators, including the Republican Congress and the SCOTUS have already "failed their obligations to uphold the Constitution, to represent the interests of the government, and to ensure that their subordinates follow the law."

Trump has already been given millions of dollars from both private and public (as a pass-through) entities! He received a gold-plated plane from a nation and then agreed to allow that nation to build training facilities in one of our Air Force bases in Idaho. That is just a simple payoff. But although this reporting is news, how can we then be writing words that demonstrate an expectation of any legal or patriotic leaning from our current situation? We must somehow begin to find ways to communicate the truth of the takeover of our democracy and begin to find ways to reach out to those who can change it!

Just days ago, Trump declared that he "will not invade San Francisco" because he had received calls from the heads of several major corporations! Trump stated, "Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff were among 'great people' who urged him not to deploy the National Guard to the city. He added that he spoke to Lurie on Wednesday evening, saying the mayor asked him “very nicely” to give him a chance to turn the situation around."

That is how the depot operates! That is how he decides what to do and what not to do! That is how Trump has always operated! So, the real question is not for us to be complaining about what we know is happening, but how do we reach those in power, the monied and corporate bosses, who are the ones currently gaining from Trump's payoffs, and get them to change! We need to try to instigate friction between them by finding ways that Trump is going to try to take control of them. Whenever he does something to affect the economic stability of their lives, it should be blown up and p[pointed out!

Jeanne's avatar

The Supreme Court doesn’t uphold the Constitution, so why would Blanche or Bondi? The United States has become a lawless country thanks to SCOTUS. The MAGA majority on the Court are right up there with the other anti-American , anti-democratic grifters known throughout history.

Robert Lastick's avatar

I don't know about all of you, but I (an American taxpayer like you) am sick and tired of being the one to change little Trumps diaper over and over again.

I think it is time for Russ Vought to change it, for a change. Being the father of this damn mess, his tax rate should be appropriately increased.

As should the other MAGA's who have precipitated this nightmare on America.

Oh, and, by the way, they all need a cut in pay also.

Really, tho. We need to get them out of government now.

Robyn Chauvin's avatar

I think we all know that unless the country makes it happen, the law no longer applies to Trump

Robert Lastick's avatar

You are right, Robyn. Little time remains. Norm Eisner needs to stop talking and take some concrete steps to get our answer to Agent Orange into an orange jumpsuit and into the cell he so rightly deserves.

I really do not think out country can take much more of this.

Robyn Chauvin's avatar

Well, the question is now how do you stop them from stealing the midterms? And once that’s done the game is over. The military may be the only safeguard left and that’s pretty shaky.

It doesn’t mean we stop fighting. Trump is going to die and there isn’t one likable person in his regime that Maga will follow
