While this drags on, my mental health, which has been in the toilet since 2016, has continued to erode. We're a federal worker household, so add the constant threat of job loss to the actual loss of morale and ability to do the work the agency is charged with to the unrelenting stress. Demanding that every worker now sign an NDA to prevent leaks that, gee, never happened to other presidents, is the ultimate insult to injury.
Everything we care about has been threatened, degraded, or destroyed, and next up: starving my Cuban relatives on the island so that they have to accept any terms the American oligarchs offer for their property and resources. But other than that, how did you enjoy the war, Mrs. Lincoln?
The hardest task for the next U.S. presidentS will be restoring the world’s confidence in America’s decency, judgment, and sanity and will take much longer than four or eight years.
The Iran-obsessed war hawks will condemn him for accepting a weak deal, and normal Americans won’t reward him for easing the pain in their wallets he should never have caused (and that will persist for a while anyway).
Reminds me of a quote from Spain's prime minister Sanchez when Trump announced the cease fire:
We don't applaud someone who brings a bucket of water to put out a fire that they started!
"When President Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, Barack Obama said the United States “could eventually be left with a losing choice between a nuclear-armed Iran or another war in the Middle East.”"
At the rate Trump's deal-making accumen is going, we may finish up with both. We already have the war, and no "deal" has been reached on the nuclear material. Prepare for withdrawl with a banner stating 'Mission Accomplished' no matter what end takes place. So much winning - it takes the breath away.
If Iran wanted a nuclear arsenal, they would already have it. They have enough plutonium in used fuel rods for their reactor to make 200 weapons. All that is needed is chemical and mechanical processing, not sophisticated isotopic enrichment. Why is there all the fuss about uranium? What they wanted was negotiating leverage. Now they have it via control of the strait and the threat to bomb the oil production facilities of their neighbors.
Trump announced today that political pressure won’t sway him in negotiations, “I don’t care about the midterms” (NYTimes 5/27/26). He seemed to address these remarks to Iran. But they were really to Republican right wing hawks opposition to the proposed peace deal. Trump can’t acknowledge looking weak. So what does he do?
Time to face facts Trump. Iran gave you the best deal you can hope for you to get out of your disastrous war of choice—open the strait, lift the sanctions, talk about nuclear resolution later. Over Memorial day weekend it looked like Trump would accept Iran’s terms to get out of the disaster. Trump made a big deal of skipping Jr’s wedding because he had important war work. Then word leaked on the terms of the agreement and Garham, Wicker, Pompieo, and other hawks attacked.
Trump’s fragile ego can’t acknowledging weakness so he can’t take the deal. Now what? Most likely frozen in terror about looking weak he does nothing—the current stalemate drags on as people are killed and the world economic situation deteriorates.
Congress force a peace agreement on this weak man. We can’t wait until after the midterms
U.S. backed Iranian regime change is what got us here in the first place. There is a significant portion of the Iranian people who oppose the current Islamist regime; but, any good will they might have been developing towards us has pretty much been tossed out the window. We're not going to be seeing an Iranian regime that trusts us any time in the near future. Causing more death and destruction in Iran won't help the situation.
Agree that the next President will have a tall order to redeem America in the eyes of the world. But IMHO many countries are “leaving” and even if we become “kind America” in the future they aren’t coming back ever again. Would you? When you know there is an electorate in America that can actually vote in yet another Goon!
Why are we focusing on uranium enrichment? Iran has enough plutonium to make over 200 nuclear weapons. and it doesn't need centrifuges to do it - just chemical and mechanical processing. If Iran wanted weapons and not negotiating leverage, they would already have them.
He cancelled Obama's Iran deal, spent (so far) $30 billion dollars, more than a dozen American lives and hundreds of injuries, damaged American facilities and equipment, depleted weapons stockpiles, further alienated allies all for (MAYBE) an agreement to further negotiate what will almost certainly be a worse deal.

I am so sorry. God help you and your family and all those whom this Golden Madman touches
Thank you for telling it like it is. You have had an even uglier view of all this than most of us.
You can thank the anonymity of the comment section! And the fact that nobody has signed an NDA yet :)
"Less stupid shit." Ah, one can dream.
"It will fall to the next president[S]." This restoration will not be done in four years or in eight years or in this century.

I also suggest a coast-to-coast spanking machine for everybody who voted for Mister, and a double dose if they voted for him twice.
Love your creativity!! That's quite a visual!
It’s actually a euphemism for what I really want to do to them…

Suggestions are good but beyond the capability of the Mango-headed administration…at least without regime change in both Iran & the U.S.

Yeah, maybe get Hegseth to sign a frickin NDA.
Hope Tom is in our next government in some capacity to help with all of this!

Trump's a genius!

Operation Inept Fury
Hamas still controls Gaza after Netanyahu and Trump turned it to rubble. Iran learned the lesson in this but Netanyahu and Trump? Nope.
