Thank you for this list, and for idenifying the PERSON standing their ground to respect the law. If it includes her staff, which it must, for so many fronts, I applaud the group and team effort to protect so many very important things our government does.

The WOMAN standing their ground! There’s a set of ovaries!

If this horrific bill goes down in flames, there should be a national holiday in honor of MacDonough.

It's Come To This's avatar

A great shout-out to Parliamentarian MacDonough. And as of yesterday, Majority Leader Thune is *rejecting* the slobber and invective the White House and its newest, most oleagenous, dumbest, most self-abasing spokesworm yet -- Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville -- are hurling at this woman, calling her "WOKE" and calling for her firing, tarring, feathering, beheading, etc. So a weak little huzzah for John Thune.

And a reminder of what a loathsome wretch Kentucky Fried Voldemort really is. The man must make millions want to projectile barf somewhere.

Susan Fernbach's avatar

Mitch is the personification of the plucky, determined polio survivor who heroically climbs the ladder to success and then hauls it up after himself.

James Coyle's avatar

Liked for not just for content, but also for "Kentucky Fried Voldemort." Hadn't heard that one before. Well done (no pun intended)),

James Coyle's avatar

It would be nice to see that he is cooked. The method doesn’t matter.

Tim Matchette's avatar

Boy, your eloquence is fantastic. You nailed tommy tublessness. As for mitchy, he has become irrelevant. Yes, MacDonough is the bright light in this dark time.

MM Harris's avatar

I'm still not gonna remove the "DITCH MITCH" bumper sticker from my CA car...

Potter's avatar

Correction- A woman is much more than a set of ovaries--- (which can be removed).

Yodagirl's avatar

So can testicles-watch your back! :>)

Potter's avatar

What does that mean in response?

Yodagirl's avatar

Nothing-it was a joke! (In response to your statement that ovaries can be removed.)

Potter's avatar

Women don’t usually or ever as far as I know refer to men as a pair of testicles. ThoughI have heard the term testicular fortitude.

patricia's avatar

same thing you meant when you said ovaries can be removed...

Potter's avatar

Women are good for reproducing and nothing else, many men think. So they are shocked...like with MacDonough.I suppose women can think that men are only good for that too. But "it's a man's world". I guess Margaret Thatcher had "testicular fortitude" The Iron Lady... But we digress..

Friedrike Merck's avatar

Oh for crying out loud, I’m having a little fun with grow a pair humor.

Of course women, myself, are more than their ovaries, which, like testicals, can be removed, although I don’t know that that would make woman a baritone.

Don’t be a party pooper!!!!

Potter's avatar

What is your humor may hit a sensitive nerve and not be as funny as you think or intend. First of all you singled out her sex, making it part of the celebration. Secondly, it was not clear to me what your own sex is so where you are coming from not clear…. (Nor mine). But it was like you were calling her a pair of ovaries… thus my response because it’s a male attitude. A woman can make fun of that, be cynical, but it was not clear who you are. To beat a dead horse. I did not find it funny. Sorry.

Thanks to the Divine for making this beautiful, inspirational and intelligent woman our Parliamentary

Another blow to the blowhard - thank you Elizabeth MacDonough for your correct and courageous rulings.

Hiro's avatar

She is saving America - her working people, marginalized citizens, and beautiful lands for all people including tourists from abroad. Trump and Republicans are national enemies.

Debbie Rakestraw's avatar

Her action is a "Profile in Courage" and she should be commended for her willingness to put her job on the line!!! I'm waiting to hear Trump called for her removal and Thune's acquiescence I minutes....

Susan Wladaver-Morgan's avatar

Not just her job, but maybe even her life itself. We all saw what happened in Minnesota.

Chris Dortch's avatar

Elizabeth MacDonough is a true American hero. I'm sure she'll get the usual hate mail, emails, social media posts, telephone threats, etc. But I give her the highest praise I can muster for her bravery, intelligence, and yes, that unheard of word in this "administration," empathy. Kudos to her and to Jen for giving her the spotlight she deserves.

James Coyle's avatar

And Ms. Rubin gets it right. What this fine person did was her job. While the result of her doing so can be termed empathetic, especially given the utter cruelty these MAGA proposals intended, empathy didn't even have to enter into her decision. She just did her job right.

patricia's avatar

she should get a thank you letter from all the MAGA rats...

‘Get Over It’ Mitch McConnell. Unfortunately we’ll never get over McConnell who packed the Supreme Court and federal courts across the country with a cast of maga conservatives misfits.

Deborah O’Donnell's avatar

Let’s raise some Contrarian funds for billboards in McConnell’s heavy Medicaid districts letting them know he says “ they”ll get over” losing their healthcare.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

His pressure point is China/Taiwan. Elaine's family owns Foremost Corp. .

Deborah O’Donnell's avatar

This isn’t about him. It’s about his constituents who will be impacted, and making them aware of what he thinks about them and their healthcare needs.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Republican politicians could give a shit, unless they are personally threatened.Mitch is not running for relection.

Those most vulnerable represent majority Democratic districts. There are about 20 in the House. Most of them are responsive to their donors.

Not that I have insider info, but I know them.

Elaine says jump, Mitch asks how high.

cat cat's avatar

Once again, it took a woman.

Tom Pod's avatar

Thanks Jen. So timely and well written.

America needs more Elizabeth McDonoughs!

James Coyle's avatar

And fewer Mitch McConells.

I was born soon after the end of WW II, so the study of the build up to the war and what happened during the war was the history I was immersed in as a youth and a student. Just before the first Trump administration I started reducing the size of my library starting with the Civil War (it was over, right?) and World War II (the allies won, right?). Lately I have been restoring volumes I had sold off about the rise of Hitler and his Lieutenants because the playbook of the MAGA regime has been eerily similar. No historical period is an exact match to another, but one thing that is matching is the lust for personal enrichment and punishing those not liked by the regime. That there are individuals willing to buck the desires of the tyrant and his sycophants shines a light of hope in our dimming future.

This morning on Heather Cox Richardson, on a post from Deepak Puri, "Many observers have connected the dots and concluded that Saudi Arabia’s crown prince is seeking to drag the United States into a war with Iran and Hezbollah. But that’s only half the story. Looking at the recent events through a broader geopolitical lens, a much more sinister plan emerges: a Saudi plan to trap the United States in a permanent standoff with Tehran." - National Interest.

Heather documents that members of Trump’s inner circle, including Michael Flynn and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, hatched a plan for a joint U.S.-Russian project to build nuclear power plants in Saudi Arabia. In June 2016 they formed a company called IP3 International, short for International Peace, Power and Prosperity.

Thanks for the work you do.

The bill - with these omissions - is still horrible. Ole Moscow Mitch's callous comment was nothing but saying the quiet parts out loud. The hue and cry which will fly out of the mouths of the less-than-well-off MAGAts when this bill passes and they realize what was done to them, will be breathtaking!

L B Rose's avatar

And Mitch goes along with Joni Ernst's "we all die". Basically, if it doesn't hurt me, I don't give a f***.

patricia's avatar

let's hope the midterms tell a different story

patricia's avatar

joniernst should go back to washing pigs...

James Coyle's avatar

I suspect the MAGAts will cry, "See what Biden and the libs forced our people to do to us."

patricia's avatar

magas got a new song : we was duped by the trump troupe , now we can't afford soup but we still lovvvvve himmmmm

Now, here is some authentically good news!
