I heard an interesting theory that all these anti-demonstration diversions, as well as the intentional weakening or shutdown of US antiterrorist capabilities and intelligence collection capabilities are intended to make the US attractive for a terrorist attack. Something like another 9/11 attack would be the grounds for Trump to declare and impose martial law. No more Mr. Nice Guy especially as Trump would claim it was an “inside” job. The cruel deportation tactics in Blue States aren’t working fast enough and there is too much wiggle room for the courts. Think of it as akin to the phony Polish invasion of Germany in 1939, except that Trump is declaring war on his own nation.

It was June 1, 2020, the day of the infamous bible-carrying Trump, that Trump declared war on the American people. This lead directly to the Jan. 6, 2021 invasion of the Capitol. He resumed his war on Jan. 20, 2025, and has been working on destroying America ever since.

According to guys like Trump, my people, i.e. OSHA, were like the Gestapo. He was the poster boy for "employer sanctions" for hiring illegals to work on his job sites. Had to pay fines and make restitution. As a result, he uses temporary foreign workers on his properties to displace Americans.

For some, raids like these have been ongoing since the Clinton administration.

From my perspective, had they wanted to cut off illegal employment, they'd attack employers who hire "under the tabe," paying substandard wages, avoiding liability for workers' compensation, IRS and SS taxes, etc. Ironically the center of the universe for employers breaking immigration laws are places like Home Depot parking lots.....

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Here in Baghdad By the Sea, Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader from Miami who Trump pardoned for his participation in the Jan. 6 attack, wants citizens to take deporting undocumented immigrants into their own hands. Literally, he has an app for that. Tarrio has announced he will be the “czar” of an independent organization that pays people cryptocurrency for reporting undocumented migrants.

Given the fact that this regime has fired most of the competent and experienced people that have helped ensure our national security, we are definitely more vulnerable. The thought that this could be more than colossal stupidity is horrifying…but believable.

Given that he is a criminal and knows the agencies have all the intelligence on home that Jack Smith never got to court with- trump has used every technique, every tactic to keep this from coming to light.

He is the master of distraction, chaos generation and illicit acts to keep 1 minute ahead of his “deep state” psychosis of real threat of this information.

He’ll do anything to bury or burn to find and eradicate the evidence.

You can't put anything past--not Trump, who is basically an on-the-cheap sub-imitation of Ronald Reagan, another fading 'star' who became a tool for the billionaire class--but certain of his staff (Stephen Ratface Miller et. al.) and the architects of Project 25, known and unknown. They would sell their mothers for a handle on absolute power.

SBwrites's avatar

The thee best known people involved with Project 2025 are: Kevin Roberts, CEO of The Heritage Foundation, a member of the Catholic cult Opus Dei, and mastermind of Project 2025, who believes, “We are in the process of the Second American Revolution, which will be bloodless, if the left allows.” He wants to outlaw all abortions, and get rid of contraceptives. He wants (white) women to marry early, have lots of children, and stay in abusive marriages if necessary, to keep their family together. And, so much more.

Leonard Leo, Chair of the Federalist society, and a conservative Catholic, has spent the last 30 years working to change the judicial system so it is right-wing. He stacked SCOTUS with six conservative Catholics, and developed a complicated and secret dark money organization so he and others can secretly donate to judges, justices etc, pay for whatever he believes will get them elected or sworn in to office. In 2021, he was given $1.6 billion by a conservative donor to have a far greater reach.

Finally, JD Vance, who was introduced to an Opus Dei priest by Kevin Roberts, and in 2019 converted to Catholicism, and wrote the foreword to Robert’s book, “Dawn’s Early Light,” with the initial subtitle of “Burning Down Washington to Save America,” but it was changed to “Taking Back Washington to Save America.” Roberts says Vance is one of the leaders of their movement.

The worst part about living under a rotten cult of personality and its accompanying rule by incompetent, greedy thugs is that literally any theory at all about why this is all happening gains credence. There are just enough screw-ups, sufficient stupidity, widespread cowardice and unchecked ambition floating out there that anything begins to sound plausible. There's nothing you or I could really say to dissuade these notions because we all suspect they contain slivers of terrifying truths.

Linda Weide's avatar

It certainly is making the US ripe for a terrorist attack, and Iran is certainly the hornets nest stirred up today. Of course reading Project 2025 made it look like the DOD and Intelligence Community would be destroyed just by the practices they planned to put in place. Somehow they are not realizing that they could be harmed too.

I urge everyone to be safe tomorrow at their No KINGS rallies. Here is a piece I put together from my Indivisible training for the rally on safety and your rights.

https://lindaweide.substack.com/p/indivisible-training-recommendations?r=f0qfn

RRiveter's avatar

Exactly what I think. While Trump and company are attacking their own people, our real enemies are easily plotting attacks. You can make sure of that, and guess what? They will be successful because we have an incompetent asshole as head of the DOD, and a demented, hateful, vengeful wannabe as president.

Linda Weide's avatar

Yes. Iran is so het up right now. They just attacked Israel, but if we look at the stealth attack Israel planned on Iran and the stealth attack Ukraine planned on Russia, we can be aware that there are stealth attacks being planned, and they can be planned by anyone. Just because Trump loves fascists does not mean they return his love. For one, they don't love anyone but themselves. These narcissists are just looking in the mirror all the time and in love with themselves and they cannot see anyone else.

In the meantime, the whole world knows that Hegseth is a tool and a fool! In the Hamburger Evening Paper they had several days of jokes about the Signal calls. Like a housewife leaning on a broom on her stoop telling a neighbor how she is in on the Hegseth Signal group as well, and they won't believe who he is planning on bombing yet. Or a grandma with her card group showing her tablet and saying she is on Hegseth's grandma's Signal chat group, and do they have any questions for her to ask.

So, can you imagine what our many traditional enemies are planning. I have a good imagination, and those who have worked in counterterrorism can imagine even more. In the Intelligence Community they fired everyone competent, and put buffoons in charge.

The US is a Kakistocracy, Kleptocracy and Oligarchy all rolled into one. The countries Trump is modeling us after are all small in the world. Why would you go from a world leader to a nothing? He certainly is not going to be safe himself from our enemies either. It is so stupid it boggles the mind.

David Moscatello's avatar

Four days ago, a real patriotic leader, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said the US was diverting 20,000 missiles promised for Ukraine to the Middle East.

So neither I, nor I suspect Iran, believe that Netanyahu didn't talk to his fellow autocrat Don the Con about Israel's planned attack.

And given that Trump put our entire national security apparatus under the control of Russian asset Tulsi Gabbard, the FBI under corrupt Trump-fluffing Kash Patel, and the military under Fox hair-boy Pete Hegseth, we're an inviting target for bad actors around the world.

Linda Weide's avatar

It has been stressed that the US was informed but not asked with the plans, and that it was rather last minute. That is interesting about the diverting missiles, and that does indicate support for the actions, which we know the US would have. However, was Rubio out of the loop, or what?

Our national security is an oxymoron, with the emphasis on moron. We already see China maneuvering in the air over the South China sea.

Who is in charge and what purposes is our military being put to as we protest and they march into our cities as if we were the enemy instead of defending us from our real enemies.

RRiveter's avatar

He can explain to the American people why bombs are being dropped on us, the Capitol blown up, the White House attacked, major cities fired on,etc etc etc, when Iran, Russia, China, North Korea, and every other major US enemy joins forces to blow us out of the sky. Wonder if the Magas will still support him then. Well, probably. They'll call it fake news, and blame the bombs on Biden. The only good thing would be if Fox News headquarters was taken out.

tRump, in addition to being a weak coward, is also an emotionally stunted 78 year old toddler who is throwing an epic temper tantrum. One of his sociopathic handlers needs to cut off his Fox News feed and encourage him to spend more time at the golf course.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Trump looks nutsy koo koo and needs to be evaluated for involutary civil commitment. A discussion of his mental state should be the predicate for every tactical policy decision he's been making.

The media should be asking: IS HE NUTS?

RRiveter's avatar

Newsom very clearly asked that exact question, in so many words. He's the only one out there, in pubic, who is saying "is this guy all there?" Everyone else in so-called power is afraid of saying the obvious, that we have a person who really should be committed in a lock down unit sitting in the Oval, making absolutely ridiculous and dangerous decisions.

His sociopathic handlers are enjoying the show and how Trump basks in the attention from his adoring fans and compromised media. The grifters are getting richer. Putin is laughing at us. Sassy Sue's avatar

Did I miss the section in my Bible where Christ advocated tarring and feathering of ANYONE at ANYTIME? Johnson must be a strong proponent of the TRV Bible...Trump Revised Version of the Bible.

When I see Johnson's "Christianity" in action one singular verse from the Bible I read comes to mind..."Jesus wept." John 11:35 KJV

George's avatar

True modern Christianity obviously has fixed the old mistakes, like water for thirsty or food for the hungry (maybe while voting is an exception, because in Christ's times, no one actually had to stand hours in line to vote). And feeding those starving urchins after their birth, obviously not Christian. Those beatitudes? Just a story or sermon. And those commandments now required in some schools? Bearing false witness? What is that? Is it stealing if the victim willingly gives it up when threatened or extorted? But can you extort without first coveting? Probably requires too much thinking for a Congressman to manage. Don't want the brain to swell.

Now for the million-dollar question. Does anyone think the military will be pushed too far by The Grifter and finally realize it has an oath to uphold, plus the memory of millions of Americans who died fighting to save our democracy? For the U.S. to turn into a dictatorship, the military has to acquiesce to the so-called president's whims. Does anyone think that guardrail will eventually hold? I don't like what I'm seeing so far, but The Grifter's tendency is to push things as far as he thinks they can go. I think he's already pushed too far, dating back to his last "term" in office. Will anyone other than judges, a few former military leaders who have opinions and no power, and a handful of Democrats who aren't bound by the party's puzzling decorum principles step up to fight this? My opinion is that GOP members of Congress will eventually be more afraid of their constituents for not crossing The Grifter than they formerly were for crossing him. The only reason he wasn't impeached the second time is that Senators feared for their families. I think that fear will increase a hundredfold if they don't get a handle on the oaf in the Oval and start fighting for their constituents.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

That is/has been the Jerery Weiss theory. https://jerryweiss.substack.com/

Approximately 20 Congressional Republicans represent majority Democratic districts, including where I live.

Only takes a few.

Alan Greenstein's avatar

Only a massive defeat at the polls will wake up the cowardly congressional Republicans. As for the congressional Democrats, they are mostly a lost cause.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Only takes 3 House members to completely screw up the administration.

Mary Ann Yaeger's avatar

Agree, that IS the million dollar question. And the Fort Bragg spectacle is not comforting.

RRiveter's avatar

Maybe I'm full of it, but I get the feeling that the more out of control and nutty Trump and his staff become, the more the GOP members are questioning his mental soundness as well as the current military leaders. If these people in Congress do not step up to the plate soon, they will never hold another office in this country when their times come up for reelection. Folks are getting pretty pissed off, of that I'm sure. They should be sending applications to Walmart.

Chris Dortch's avatar

Totally agree with this. I think they're going to become more afraid of their constituents' wrath than they are of Trump's. That's when the sea change begins. People know they've been duped, and no amount of Fox News whitewashing can change that.

Cathy Gray's avatar

Ms Rubin, thank you for this article. It is time (it is well past time) for our federal government to listen to those who, over years of service, have developed knowledge and wisdom regarding the appropriate use of the US military…those whom you have quoted understand fully what military training is — and what it is not. They understand the proper role of the military — and that role is rarely to be deployed domestically.

Last I checked, Los Angeles was not a foreign state, nor were the people of Los Angeles foreign actors. They are, for the most part, US citizens and other people who, for years, have taken an active role in the Los Angeles, and therefore the American, economy.

Mr Trump has created a war zone in the heart of one of America’s greatest economic engines…like it or not, without California’s economy an even larger chunk of Trump’s budget would sit in the deficit pile, further destroying the hope of ever becoming a nation that cares for and serves the needs of her own people, let alone aiding those who suffer abroad. And, far beyond the economy, this choice to deploy America’s military against its own people sets a dangerous precedent for the entire nation. Who will be next to be declared “the enemy” — and what do we stand to lose as our own constitutionally established and constitutionally circumscribed military marches against those constitutionally designated as the ones to be served and protected?

We know that Trump’s mental status is crumbling (not sure how much more he could have to lose) because he’s oand that he has no capacity for wisely guiding and guarding this nation…but make no mistake: The current situation of chaos is not something Trump just sort of stumbled and fumbled his way into; it is part of a wider plan developed over many years to destroy this nation, to feed the bellies and the ego of the power hungry, seeking what they suppose is their rightful (fascist) victory over democracy. Trump is simply a useful fool, a life-long salivating dolt wishing over 79 birthday cakes that he might be crowned king of the universe.

On Saturday, June 14, we all have opportunity to help assure that his candles fizzle before he has a chance to blow his wish into reality! Be there, be peaceful, be firm. In America we will have NO KING.

Naima (NM)'s avatar

Thank you. Trump & company are undermining American’s respect for the military (wanting it to be “his”). We must stand up with and for our military personnel. I am an old anti-war protestor frim the sixties and from a military family. As my decorated U.S. Navy father once said, “No one hates war more than those who have to fight”. So I am pro-peace and deeply respectful of our military.

Nancy's avatar

And he has military men and women cheering for him! Is that actually a thing that's allowed in the military? If it's allowed, then I guess anything he does is OK with the military.

Swbv's avatar

Worth having a bit of perspective on Noem and Trump's hysteria. LA County is a little smaller than the State of CT. The protests are in an area that is smaller than one typical small town. The Governor really can handle it. Everything else is just typical Trump theater and wringing his hands.

https://outsidethebeltway.com/fun-fact-about-la-county/

RRiveter's avatar

That's exactly what Newsom said online yesterday, that the protests were literally only a few blocks, and his law enforcement was handling any fracases, as well as protecting the National Guard, who were pissing people off by their presence. He's about the only one so far in the Dems who has bluntly told the truth about Trump and company, and stood up to these stooges.

Michelle Jordan's avatar

And there you have it. It’s perfectly clear Trump is violating the Constitution. Time to call him out both Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats will have to show leadership and convince the more level headed Republicans if there are any to denounce Trump. If Trump wont stop his lawlessness, and he won’t,then this coalition must agree to impeach .

David Krupp's avatar

Julie Bannerman's avatar

We need far more than a few courageous voices. As a fifth generation Californian with deep family roots in LA history and politics, I can’t overstate how abhorrent Trump’s Reality TV-LA show is especially when paired with his grotesquely false narrative as to facts on the ground.

Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, our Congressional representatives and the LAPD, along with everyone else in positions of authority, were and are fully capable of responding to incidents of street violence and property destruction in a small section of the county.

The simple, empirical truth is Trump’s military invasion and occupation of a small area in LA was and is unnecessary, provocative and dangerous, and illegal. Judge Breyer’s findings and conclusions to this effect in a 36 page opinion are beyond rational dispute. The two Trump appeals court judges who stayed the case until a Tuesday hearing should be overruled.

So where are congressional and other Republican and independent voices speaking out against Trump’s lies and obscene charade? What has happened to make them so cowardly and cruel? Today’s Republicans rally around what principles? Let the poor die from want of medical care so our billionaire donors don’t desert us? Let wrongly arrested persons with Hispanic names be trafficked to other countries against court orders - oops? Let immigrants be torn from their kids at scheduled immigration hearings and rapidly deported? Meanwhile, let the middle class vanish and lawless greed rule? It’s nihilism, fascism and corruption in a toxic brew destroying the best of what America once aspired to be.

No Kings protests are tomorrow. Stay peaceful. Don’t fall for false flag or anarchist provocations to lawlessness - let organizer and local law enforcement handle them. Wave the Constitution and American flags; that’s the point of the protests, not other issues.
