I saw that ICE had to cross the street in order to knock down the woman and shoot Pretti. They were obstructing nothing, obviously, being on the other side of the street.
Norm….thanks for all that you do, for being a clear voice for law and the Constitution. Trump will go down as an ugly footnote in history and and a cautionary tale for us all. And the people of Minneapolis will be remembered as heroes.
My elected folks(all Democrats) have been mostly awol through all of this except for sending fundraising messages. My Senator is not up for reelection in October, so he probably thinks that staying under the radar is smart. I have contacted them repeatedly saying “represent your constituents or stand aside for someone who will”. Thus far..crickets. I will not forget.
Your writing and YouTube / Substack appearances are so affirming because you make the vital connection between people, real live people, and decency, caring, faith and legal options. True champion, you!
In addition to restrictions on ICE such as no masks, no warrantless entries, body cameras and identification, the Dems should also require a requirement for readily available reparations for anyone who is a victim of ICE overreach. At present, they are knocking down doors and injuring people, and, for the most part, these victims have no effective recourse. That is appalling.
Also, breaking car windows and releasing detainees in Texas that have to pay their own way home. When ICE pulls people out of cars many cars end up in the tow lot.
Norm, thank you for travelling to Minneapolis and bringing us a most positive picture of the resistance there.
" We mustn’t however only focus on that half of the equation but also on how we have met his flood-the-zone wrongdoing with rule-of-law shock and awe, both in the courts of law and of public opinion"
We can and must use the energy that we gain from these illegal actions to develop plans, policies, and programs that will move us farther and farther away from this regime, and implement them. Like justice that moves slowly but grinds finely, so does the wrath of the people. So much for so long will finally not be tolerated, and it is spreading. We shall overcome.
Thank you Norm and Katie for your visits and words in Minnesota. It means a lot to have spokespeople like you coming to my state and my city of St. Paul. I have a family member right now in jail for protesting the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, just as so many other people are jailed for exercising their 1st amendment rights. While we are proud and strong here in Minnesota, and astonished to be having a Selma Moment, we wish that ICE would just get out, be abolished and be gone forever. They have damaged too much. ICE is bad for children, flowers, and all living beings.
Thanks to Norm ONCE AGAIN for all he gives to the movement and the country. A true public servant. I only wish his former Harvard Law classmate and later employer would show a fraction of Norm's commitment to the common good, regardless of the cost to his personal comfort.
Whew, that's a lot to go through. The holy site analogy landed with me. We have accumulated a pretty good collection of them over 250 years. I can imagine a Ken Burns series as part of every civics class in the newly reconstituted United States of America.
Thank you Norm for sharing your thoughts and experiences in Minnesota. I can feel the emotion and love through your reporting. I can’t believe it’s been only one week since Alex Pretti’s murder, feels like months ago with all that happens each week under this regime.
I appreciate you, Jen and all your guests who all share wisdom, insights and truths. I would not be able to get through these difficult times sanely without all of you!
Yes, the Civil Rights battles, and the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti are marker points. Left out was the National Guard's action in Ohio against unarmed students protesting the Vietnam War. These murders too brought attention and awareness to an untenable activity. Neil Young memorializd them. Bruce Springsteen did it for Good and Pretti.
Thanks Norm. You give us hope to keep up the fight. You inspire us and encourage us to stand for the rule of law. The fat felon and his ilk will not last.
The six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court are responsible for the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, responsible for the Fourth Amendment violations of US citizens, the violations of due process of US citizens and noncitizens alike, responsible for the murder of civilians on the high seas. There is no such thing as Presidential immunity in the Constitution. The only place immunity is discussed in the Constitution is immunity for Congressional members in debate on the floors of the Senate and House of Representatives. The six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court must be impeached for their violations of the Founders' writings in the Federalist Papers and the Constitution.
If you believe that we are on the cusp of the kind of change represented by the civil rights act of 1964 and the voting rights act of 1965, then sadly you are likely wildly mistaken. In Lyndon Johnson, the US had a president nearly universally regarded as second only to Lincoln in his support for civil and equal rights. Trump would have used Selma to crush protests throughout the country. He is the worst president for equal and civil rights since the civil war.

Targeted
The extra effort won't go unnoticed Cleo.

I am irate that the Dem talking heads aren't highlighting protests.
They should be following the antics of the 4 Minnesota House Republicans, put microphones in front of them continually. Speak to their donors. Family.

And they could start by making a start. The First "little pig"'s house was made of straw.
NO ICE AT POLLS

It's Bang Bang you're dead, then they turn their backs and walk away. That's part of their intensive training?

What civics classes? They do not exist anymore.
they will in New America is what Al is saying...
Civics class, fifteen minutes every morning, right after the recitation of the original pledge before it was altered by republicans.
Civics minors in every discipline so that we at least know that the educated have a grasp of who we are.
This is a good plan

1. Do you have a client? If so, who?
2. Is this a distraction from Epstein?
3. Still waiting for a party to file motions to recuse Thomas and Alito.
The Senate carved out DHS funding in the latest appropriations vote "for longer discussion".
Now the bill goes to the House.
Call your Reps - both parties please - and DEMAND no DHS funding without reforms that can be ENFORCED.
You know the list.
Oh, yeah, and impeach Gnome.
Where are the ACA subsidies?

I'll look forward to a discussion on the very good point you make.
