Madeleine Albright’s signature statement: “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.”

As a lifelong feminist, I fully endorse this, and by extension a similar sentiment for every marginalized group. Fortunately, I won't be in hell to rub elbows with Joni Earnst or Clarence Thomas. I'm an atheist. We have a firm sense of right and wrong. I'm here to help everyone except the turncoats.

Where are we on this? Do we support a pregnant woman through the birth? Because not might induce an abortion? Then we can let the newborn and mom starve? Must that be in Joni’s Beautiful Bill?

They never think these things through. It's the lack of logic, the lack of care, the lack of thoughtful planning that disqualify them for any kind of governance or leadership. Not to mention that, as people, they suck.

George's avatar

Thinking things through is foreign to this Republican dynasty. One of my favorites is the need for history to support a control on guns. In the late 18th century on a long distance travel you would not attempt it without a gun. And where in the Constitution is there an exception for long distance travel by air? C’mon, if that’s what we are bound by, what is TSA doing confiscating guns?

What she did was totally ridiculous. She was actually behaving worse than an adolescent rival towards her constituents. Someone with a mentality like that needs to go.

Ernst is a resident of MAGAville, where oening the libs is an end unto itself,it seems.

Or needs to stop.

I’m used to the MAGA philosophy of not apologizing for mistakes or disinformation. It is the hallmark of the administration and the Republicans who support it to double down with more of the same. So, I would expect nothing less from Ms. Ernst when responding to outrage at her outrageously callous and insulting comments.

What I do take umbrage at is Ernst’s comments about Jesus Christ in this context. I’m not sure Ernst knows the real Jesus Christ - although I am pretty sure that she believes her understanding of Jesus is her lord and master (I’m not too sure about the savior part, and I sure don't want to embrace her concept of him).

My question to her would be: “What is the source of her knowledge of Jesus - the Jesus who would approve of her lack of compassion regarding those who are the least of these?”

You see, I get my knowledge of Jesus from his words in Matthew 25:

‘35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’... ‘40 Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Oh, how I wish the church and the media would report on Ernst’s lack of understanding of Jesus, his gospel and the kingdom of God!

Ernst is what I refer to as a “Cosplay Christian.” She clothes herself in transparent christianspeak yet, underneath that garb, loving and compassionate people see the cruel and ugly nakedness of her heresy.

Roger, my question also. She is like the people Jesus condemned loudly praying in the Temple and those making the Temple a den of thieves.

When a fool attempts to defend the indefensible, you can expect a response such as Joni Ernst condescendingly offered her constituents. The imbecility of her comment and tone-deaf empathy further magnified with her sarcastic and disrespectful 'apology' offered up on video the following day. Political choices in Iowa must be pretty thin if this person is permitted to continue in office.

Wendy Shelley's avatar

What a disgusting person. Iowa should toss her out asap; she sure isn’t representing any one of her constituents. (Same as every other Republican.) imho. Thx.

I have been a feminist since I was born, and I am 79 years old. Ernst is definitely NOT a feminist and she is definitely NOT democratic. Her ideas about Jesus are ignorant, and your don't have to be a democrat or a religious conservative to see ignorance of the Bible or of just humanitarian compassionate thinking. Joni Ernst needs to study up.

For years now I have been saying exactly that: women are the worst enemies of other women. Just look at every one of the female republicon senators, with the possible exception of Lisa Murkowski. And don't even mention all the toxic republicon females in the house. What great negative examples for your daughters.

As long as these are facts in this country, we will never have a woman president.

Michele's avatar

I have seen that in politics as well as in work situations. As far as I am concerned women of this ilk are an embarrassment.

because they want to play with the boys, and this is the price

Michele's avatar

Somehow they think that behaving like the truly immature boys is the ticket. They are disgusting.

Arkansas Blue's avatar

They are too dumb to realize that the price they're willing to pay is far higher than any price the "boys" are paying. It's disgusting.

She could decide to meet her Lord and Savior right away in the next life and accelerate her own departure from this mortal coil.

I believe HER lord and savior is Mammon in its current form of a fat old man from Queens.

Well said. Conman Don, Mammon, Lord of Misrule and Graft.

I am eagerly awaiting the rapture to rid us of people like Ernst. And boy, are they going to be surprised.

MNnice's avatar

Because, hey, we're all going to die anyway, right?

Ernst is pathetic. To dismiss the concerns of her constituents is a disgrace. She of federal health care and a federal pension. I am continually amazed at the callous view these elected entitled politicians have to the American people, but who seem to have perhaps an even worse view of their own citizens.

I think you are a little late to the fact that women are just as cruel as men. All one has to see are numerous Republican women with no redeeming qualities similar to Republican men. In that sense, we have a twisted equality of the sexes.

Chris Dortch's avatar

She talks as though she’s the one paying to keep people alive, not Medicaid and WIC. That’s one of the most cruel, cold-blooded statements I’ve heard a politician make. I never in a million years thought I would agree with Rand Paul, the looney tunes Senator from Kentucky, but I hope he’s the John McCain to this asinine big beautiful bill and tanks it like McCain did the effort to kill Obamacare.

I am an old white male who was, unbeknownst to me, a feminist before the term became prominent. I believe in sex/gender equality, so there are some women who are just as boorish as some men. I do, however, think, the stereotype notwithstanding, that women are more likely to be caring than men. But caring is not a sex/gender either/or thing. Let's just take one person at a time. Joni Ernst showed her stuff not only in talking about how we are all going to die--duh!--, but also when, under pressure, she betrayed her self-touted military background to confirm Hegseth for SecDef. A man say and doing what she said and did would be just as bad.

Ellie still in the mix in 26's avatar

Ernst doesn't believe in hell as a place of punishment for sinners. Well, OK, neither do I because I don't believe in eternal punishment. But she doesn't believe period, IMO. I am not saying she shouldn't call herself a Christian. She can call herself anything she likes, just like the rest of us. If she wants me to believe her, she'd have to bring some receipts. Not that I am laboring under the delusion that she cares what I, or any other person of faith other than Christian Nationalism, thinks.

If she did believe, she'd be on her knees, repenting. But she doesn't. They are just nice words to let everyone know that she is holier than they are...than I am...than you are.

Women have been cruel to other women throughout time - generally in collaboration with men they are trying to please, or prevent from doing something bad to THEM, and Miss Bread Bags is no different. I believe there are more of "us" than there are of her. We need to work together. Sorry for being so wordy.

If physical threats led Ernst to vote for the DUI Crusader Hegseth, she should have gone public... with other Congressional Republicans equally threatened. That said, one must ask what made Iowans ver so sharply from her alleged beloved predecessor, Tom Harkin? This heavily rural state was once a model of an educated citizenry. Did they retire this when he retired?

martina N's avatar

It is very painful to see all we fought for (feminists in the workforce since Betty Friedan, and the Boston Women's Health Collective) thrown out the window by people like Ernst. To not care for the needs of other women and children, and working families, to NOT try to get proportionate justice for women, is beyond our understanding. Thanks for the quote by Madeleine Albright. We have to get people like her out of office, because they are incapable of acting for the public good.
