Great interview. Lynn Sweet is a terrific journalist: one of the best. She's a credit to her profession (and to the great Medill School of Journalism at NU). The Sun-Times has been doing stellar reporting on the Chicago chapter in this national crisis. If only the corporate networks had this kind of depth, vision and honor.

Agree. The Sun Times and Block Club Chicago are doing the best reporting.

Terrorizing parents and children with disabilities. How low can these psychopaths go?

It's relatively easy to determine that; we just need to look at 1930s and 40s Germany, Russia under Stalin, and Mao's Cultural Revolution. We know how low psychopaths WILL go and have done. There is no reason I can see, why the 2025 Gang would be any different.

I live in downtown Chicago and always read Lynn Sweet’s reporting in the Chicago Sun Times. Thanks for having her.

It’s important for everyone to know that despite court orders, ICE and BP are continuing to violate those orders. One order said that unless agents were working under cover they are to wear identifiers that show the agency name and the agent’s badge number. This order is not being adhered to. Another order said that agents are not permitted to use riot control agents like chemicals, flash bangs and rubber bullets unless the agents are in imminent danger. This order is being violated on a daily basis. Another ruling for that ICE and BP are violating the consent decree against warrant less arrests. In spite of this ruling, ICE and BP continue to arrest people without having a warrant and instead fill out a warrant after an arrest has been made.

The violence against protestors being perpetrated by ICE and BP is shocking. A pastor from the First Presbyterian Church was assaulted by an agent while the pastor stood praying. The agent was on the detention center roof and shot the pastor in the head with a chemical agent. Think about that. The pastor stood in prayer and was assaulted. If the agents are brazen enough to do this while being videotaped imagine what they are doing to immigrants behind closed doors while no one is watching.

As a mom and now grandma, I can't imagine the horror of sending my child to school and needing to explain why they have to pay special attention to the teachers when they are told they need to go to a safe place. Doing this to our children.

Great interview, Jen, thank you! It's good to hear some first-hand reporting rather than the catastrophic clips of videos. I went to bed last night feeling so downhearted for the immigrants being terrorized across the nation, only praying took the heaviness away. I'm looking forward to being out with everyone at our capitol on Oct. 18 and was glad Lynn said Chicagoans are undeterred by ICE threats. The more they threaten, the more united we stand!
