The Attourneys General in the Democratic States of America should inform the lower-level criminals who are working for the WH Crime Boss that they are under investigation for the crimes they are committing in violation of state laws. If it isn't possible to prosecute them while the Crime Boss is in office it should be made clear that they will be prosecuted after he is out.
In today's The Guardian, Sidney Blumenthal has an interesting article on the potential use of state legislative resolutions as a means of countering the federal Administration's assaults on our system and our lives.
I stopped subscriptions to the NYT, WaPo, and redirect $$ to The Guardian and substacks, etc. No money to those publishers who enabled and normalized (not that it's possible to normalize him...) the lunatic candidate starting in 2015.
The NYT is stiil doing well and I'm staying with them, but with Lewis' layoffs announced today (by NYT not WaPo), WaPo is being gutted so. as of today, I cancelled my subscription. After Jennifer Rubin, Dana Milbank, and Ann Telnaes left, I thought I'd stick with WaPo for one more year, but the Bezos/Lewis wrecking crew crossed my red line today.
In the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), Jeffrey Epstein's legal fallout has primarily centered on massive civil settlements and racketeering lawsuits rather than traditional criminal prosecutions of his associates. Under the Virgin Islands Code, most degrees of rape have no time limit for prosecution.
WHAT ABOUT THE PERPS?
The most significant legal actions in the territory include:
Settlement with the Epstein Estate: In November 2022, the USVI government reached a landmark $105 million settlement with Jeffrey Epstein’s estate. As part of this deal, the estate paid the territory in cash and agreed to give the USVI half the proceeds from the sale of Little St. James.
JPMorgan Chase Litigation: The USVI sued JPMorgan Chase, alleging the bank facilitated Epstein's sex trafficking by ignoring red flags for over a decade. In September 2023, JPMorgan agreed to a $75 million settlement to resolve these claims.
Action Against Leon Black: The territory also secured $62.5 million from billionaire investor Leon Black to resolve potential claims related to his ties with Epstein, though Black denied any wrongdoing.
Political Controversy & Firing of AG Denise George: Attorney General Denise George, who led the prosecution against the estate and JPMorgan, was abruptly fired by Governor Albert Bryan Jr. in January 2023 shortly after filing the suit against the bank. Reports indicated the governor was reportedly angry she filed the suit without his prior knowledge.
Recent Document Releases: As of February 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has begun a rolling release of "Epstein files," which include internal evidence and witness statements.
However, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche recently stated that new criminal charges for anyone based on these files are currently unlikely.
If we indict, prosecute, convict, and incarcerate (with full due process) a large number of these Call of Duty cosplayers at the state level, and then make them serve their full sentences, others will realize that the rule of law is back, and being enforced. And presidents cannot pardon state-level crimes.
They will stop comitting these horrible criminal acts if they KNOW there will be consequences for them.
Nothing describes Trump and his MAGA regime better than this: "the [regime's] perfidious lust for unbridled power and the imposition of cruelty in its quest know no bounds and are bereft of human decency."
These detention facilities are nothing so much as concentration camps. They are meant to terrorize the direct victims and send a message far and wide that this awaits you too! Especially if your skin is any other than lily white. tRump’s entire evil and corrupt regime needs to be impeached, convicted, removed and made the focus of an army of special prosecutors.
That your comment doesn't have the most likes shows how clueless so many are about trumps intentions.
Getting his thugs used to beating up illegals is preparing them to beat up americans later and turture them in his mass prisons just like his pal putin. That is why trump demonizes any american he doesn't like today, just like he has demonizes illegals for years to make the violence more "acceptable".
Concentration camps not Hitler style. More like what we did to the Japanese during WWII but worse. Then, as evil as those camps were, families remained together.
The events in Minneapolis and other U.S. cities seem to be surreal. But they are not. Who could have ever imagined. The institutions of our government have become extremely shameless over their shameful treatment of immigrants and their children. These children are going to be traumatized for life by this government and we cannot allow their behavior to continue whether it’s pedophilia or throwing gas bombs at them.
And, we should deport ALL the immigrants working with and for this administration. That means every single one of them. In case they haven't figured it out as yet, they are ALL immigrants themselves! They are great-grandchildren, grandchildren, or children of immigrants who came to this country to be able to give their offspring a better life than what they could achieve wherever they emigrated from. We are ALL immigrants, too, and we should be so totally ashamed at what this administration is doing to other immigrants, that we must continue to fight back and maybe fly the flag upside down to show that our country is in dire trouble and we are all showing our immigrants our support, all across our nation. God help us all!!
I beg to differ. We are not all immigrants. Native Americans (I am part Iroquois) are just that: Native. ICE should not be allowed to touch them. Unfortunately some don't seem to comprehend that.
My bad, Ann. So sorry. I usually complete that thought by adding "except for American Indians, who were living here before anyone "discovered" it". And, please accept my apologies to all American indigenous peoples, for our early government officials taking your land instead of doing a workaround. And, in my humble opinion, ICE should not be touching ANYONE living and working here in the US.
This illegal activity in Minneapolis goes beyond immigrants and their children. It has fomented distrust in the majority of the people in the city, as two U.S. citizens were murdered before their very eyes. How long and what will it take to restore their trust?
“Traumatized for life” seems a bit over the top, given what we know about the resilience of childhood… though the damage done to their parents will be lasting, if my guilt over my own parenting history is any measure… but the shame this treatment of children brings will be a stain on America for a LONG time. & deservedly so…
Many of these children are children of immigrants some are not. I cannot begin to imagine what Renee Good’s children are feeling right now how their mother was killed point blank by a federal agent. If we hold them to account by a jury trial then we may get to call it murder. But that is beside the point. Many children are resilient even if they were raised by parents or grandparents who were not the most supportive nurturers but we cannot ignore severe trauma or ongoing trauma that has been inflicted on young kids especially when it was perpetrated by our own
government. If good mental health services are not available to or provided for these kids then this trauma can most definitely affect them for a long time if not a lifetime without therapy. Children can overcome some trauma even sexual abuse but even so it’s still always with them. As for it being a bit “over the top” not really. Not seeing everything that happens in those detention camps every single day we really don’t know what’s happening in those environments.
Pediatrician here. Kids have always been pawns and window dressing in the public sphere because they don't vote and are relatively cheap. But the cruelty and disregard by this administration are beyond comprehension. Other cultures value their children; we should too. They are our future.
And yet we don't. Ohioan here. The solid R general assembly has cut funding for children, or refused to fund public education as required by the Ohio Constitution. And they all shout the loudest that they are doing for the kids!
Much the same criminal behavior in the halls of the MO lege. Those cretins have refused to expand Medicaid, have tried to find ways to defund public education by issuing 'vouchers' to families, have moved to destroy the state income tax in favor of as yet unspecified sales taxes to make up the losses in income, and have, for all it's worth, tried their damnedest to destroy any Democratic bases of representation by gerrymandering a federal representative's district. MO already has some of the lowest tax rates anywhere (Great for Bidness!), but lousy for the needed social programs that help support the underpaid workers in the state.
These people are all elected. Repeatedly. I am constantly astonished at the ability of the Rs to get people to vote against their own interests. There must be an “other” to blame - blacks, Jews, gays, trans, immigrants. THEY are holding you down, taking what’s yours. What codswallop, but the rubes eat it up.
Don’t forget many of these Bible-spouting duped voters saw one thing: make abortion illegal. They conflated a zygote with a child and voted emotionally and without understanding to “protect children”. Once they secured their place in heaven by being anti-abortion they didn’t even look at all the anti-family, anti-children, anti-childhood, anti-mother policies hidden in plain view. The bane of one-issue voters.
In many Red areas, people just check "R" automatically because they've voted for them for decades. Even multiple generations. They dint even know why they're doing it anymore.
One party's leadership worked to value and support children in education, health care, food subsidies, etc. Then along came Republicans who stripped funding from all of these programs, and the MAGApublicans who followed went farther still - they scrapped the Department of Education.
Also reduced Medicaid funding (pays for health care for almost 50% kids nationwide) and SNAP. It's hard to learn when you are hungry. Congress needs to reverse all of this and we should hold their feet to the fire.
Covered in my comment about healthcare and food subsidies. First we need to reverse Congress, then Congress can "reverse all of this". Even before first, we need to get voters to quit voting against their own interests. Just how is a mystery, though better education might help. So would getting rid of Fox Noise.
The change must come at the Trump Vance level. Peaceful protest must continue and expand to targeted boycotts à la Jimmy Kimmel, until this regime crumbles.
The ability of these agents of our nation to abuse children shows the ability of our government to hire psychotic, dangerous and violent employees. How can this go on without oversight. The foxes are running the hen houses....sad.
USAID was selected by Muck. tRump enabled it. I do NOT understand why. He claims to hold Christian values. I see no evidence of that. Matthew 18:6 "If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."
Thank you, Jen. People do, very sadly, and at great cost to all of us, engage in evil. You have highlighted some supercharged evil, and justice and accountability cannot come soon enough.
Who? White males in positions of power primarily; e.g., the Catholic Church's decades-old, institutionalized, protection of pedophiles. And white males not in positions of power who take it out on those who cannot defend themselves - pick up any newspaper and read the crime reporting.
"But thus I counsel you, my friends: Mistrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful. They are people of a low sort and stock; the hangmen and the bloodhound look out of their faces. Mistrust all who talk much of their justice! Verily, their souls lack more than honey. And when they call themselves the good and the just, do not forget that they would be pharisees, if only they had—power.”
100%. I used to have a plumber whose academic degree was in Philosophy. There are bright and insightful people all around us, less visible perhaps than the undereducated goons getting the spotlight.
Thank you for a clear description of the truth. However, truth does not seem to be a value today. In spite of all the Epstein references, DJT claims he hardly knew him. And 30 or more % of the country believe him! Homan did nothing wrong in taking $50K, which he's on video taking. Oh wait, he didn't actually take it! Never has so much lying been elevated to a fine art than by DJT and his crowd! They have convinced many of us not to believe what we see and hear. How could Orwell been so prescient?
Fortunately, the videos provided by our stalwart residents of Minneapolis and spread round about the murder of two of its people had enough of an impact to dispell a lot of this.
Why are the Democrats on the Oversight Committee in collusion with Comer to threaten President Clinton and Secretary Clinton with contempt of Congress instead of going after the people who had clear and indelible (no matter how much black ink is spilled by the Dept. of INjustice in its redactions) connections in matters of national security (Epstein's and his investors' ties to Russian oligarchs and Putin, in matters of gross, criminal sexual misconduct, and in matters of dubious financial dealings? And WHY HASN'T A SINGLE REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF CONGRESS ATTEND THE HEARING CALLED BY SENATOR BLUMENTHAL AND CONGRESSMAN GARCIA, to see and hear for themselves the experiences of the victims of extra-judicial crimes perpetrated by ICE?
To your latter point, the GOP is populated by cowards and sycophants. To your earlier point, another writer on Substack suggested that by publicly testifying, the Clintons are making it precedent that others named in the Epstein files will be required to publicly testify. I hope that is the precedent the Clintons are setting. Comer is such an idiot and a vacuous mouthpiece. The Clintons apart and together are so much smarter than any MAGA committee member.

The Guardian must have felt it to be worthy enough that they posted the same article two days in a row. That's somewhat unusual for them.
Actually I see now that the article was in fact published yesterday and I only saw it today.
Then I'm really glad that they repeated it. The Guardian is a good source for unbiased reporting on U.S. UK and international news.

Coincidence that education is under funded, teachers are enemies of the state? Boy and man I have watched this undoing in Ohio for 50 years.

Oh, he admitted he lied. He was just making a point! How is this man smart enough to get dressed in the morning?
He has a trad wife, apparently.
We need a weekly death count for the tRump policies, esp. USAID cuts and clear inmate conditions in all confinement facilities.
I've read that hundreds of thousands have died from those USAID cuts.
That is all on trump and his sycophants. Unfortunately, not that they care in the least.

Sorry People - We are in a police state. Thls will not end until our renegade president and his cabinet are removed from office.
This is getting really serious, my friends.
"This is getting really serious, my friends."

The new "Christianity" is far from the humanity of Jesus's teachings or acts of kindness. It is a vengeful, fear, and hate-driven apparition.
White Christian Nationalists apparently never read in the Bible what Jesus is quoted as saying. It is just a racist, tribal cult
