Thanks from the bottom of my heart for all you do

Daniel Solomon's avatar

I appreciate it also but still waiting for a party to file motions to recuse to Thomas and Alito.

dagmar karppi's avatar

I love the idea of going after Trump's lackeys on the Supreme Court. With Thomas' wife a part of the Jan. 6 event, and his actions in taking money from big business, he should recuse himself. I also think that Roberts should be on the list. He was the judge in an impeachment trial against Trump. He allowed no witnesses for the trial, as a way to prevent the full story to come out.

By sheer good l uck, I caught the very first Contrarian Post. You have been my first read every day you have published since. Thank you all for your intelligence, experience, courage, clarity, determination and..... your humor! I can keep fighting if you do. I hope.

Thank you, Norm, for working so hard every day to uphold the Constitution and our rule of law.❤️

This was a good summaation of what we are accomplishing legally that are showing some wins, but the question remains, are we winning in the streets? ICE operatives forge ahead, now not content with murder, they have been involved in at least three recent shootings and are now responsible for blinding two more individuals in their attacks on the American populous.

Demonstrations would stop if ICE were to leave. That's a fact. Now what is needed is for this unneeded and illegal private army to be unmasked and disbanded along with the poorly-conceived DHS. Congress must step up.

patricia's avatar

congress must impeach trump before he gets us in a war with NATO for the benefit of putin...

All we need is the subpoena power in the House. Need only 3 House Republicans.

4 House Republicans in Minnesota, standing alone. They have consituents. Donors. Families.

I have been closely following the work of Election Truth Alliance and Smart Elections/Smart Legislation for the past year now. These are non-profit groups made up of individuals with backgrounds in forensic analysis of elections based on publicly available information. These groups have been publishing their analyses of the 2024 presidential election online, demonstrating strange findings that are symptomatic of interference/manipulation. I am a scientist myself and what I see in their findings makes further analysis of the 2024 election absolutely necessary.

These groups have begun filing lawsuits with the intention of doing full hand recounts of the stored paper ballots, especially in battleground states, and comparing the result to the tallies produced by the voting machines on election day. Are you aware of them and what do you think of their findings?

Don't you think that, if these experts are right and the 2024 election was indeed hacked, wide acknowledgement of that fact would dramatically change public opinion about the legitimacy of this rogue government?

I am right here with you, Linda. I'm also concerned for the upcoming midterms. Muskovitch already has been visiting the cheater in chief. They are likely planning the next round of corruption. "It's easy. We only have to change one line of code." Elon re/ 2024 election.

Bill's avatar

Shortly after the elections, Trump made a point of thanking Musk for what he did in Pennsylvania. He stated, "He knows how computers work"! I interpreted that to mean that Musk "influenced the computers"!

At the time, I wrote about this in various comment sites, but never heard anyone from the Democratic Party question what he said!

Jane's avatar

North Carolina’s 2024 election results still baffle me…when the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Superintendent of Public Instruction, were all four won by Democratic candidates, how did enough of those voters rationalize voting for DJT for President????

Can somebody explain…?

patricia's avatar

have heard this a lot...hand ballots probably torn up by now

do want you to be right though

Linda Gooding's avatar

Me too! And you're wrong about the ballots being torn up. By federal law they must be held securely with chains of custody for 22 months after the election. That gives us until September 2026 to get our hands on them.

Remember Bush v Gore? Hanging chads? That was 2000. Since then the majority of us have been switched to electronic voting with a paper 'backup' because 'everybody knows computers are vulnerable to hacking.'

Now here's the big question.........Do you know how many times suspicions about voting irregularities have successfully led to recounting those paper ballots? Have there been attempts through the courts? YES!! Has even one been successful? Not to my knowledge. There is enormous resistance to this and I think finding out why is the single most important thing we can be doing right now!!

What are ICE agents actually allowed to do? Can they engage in car chases? Do they have coherent rules governing deadly force? Are they allowed to say that they are police?

I know that a judge has just ruled that they may not arrest non-violent protesters. The ruling will probably stand until the Roberts Star Chamber reverses it. But in the normal course of events, are they even empowered to detain anybody for non-immigration issues?

Steve 218's avatar

More to the point, where are the enforcement agencies that can put the stop to the overreaches of ICE operatives? A line on a piece of paper won't hold up a building; a rule on a piece of paper presents no power to be enforced.

James's avatar

In my dreams, Tim Walz calls out the Minnesota National Guard to protect the residents of his state. I know, I know -- ain't gonna happen, and for good reason. In reality, this will probably take time. Minnesota AG Keith Ellison has said that prosecutions may have to wait until 2029. Our job may be to keep law enforcement's eye on that particular ball until then.

IOW, we can't let Don the Con and his minions do what they always do -- play out the clock until public attention goes elsewhere. We can't allow the nation to forget.

Steve 218's avatar

"Minnesota AG Keith Ellison has said that prosecutions may have to wait until 2029."

Too bad. Justice delayed is justice denied. More prompt definitive action should be taking place.

James's avatar

Well, Tim has mobilized the Guard, but not yet deployed them. Stay tuned. I guess we may yet see how much of a fight Stephen Miller really wants.

Steve 218's avatar

Mentioning Stephen Miller's name in this home is the equivalent of speaking profanity. Hopefully he will back down to Walz's sword rattling rather than engage in a mission that will only further anger the residents.

James's avatar

Unfortunately, he (let's call him the Oberst, to avoid offense) wants the fight. It seems that these lunatics want to resume the Civil War, perhaps with Fort Snelling standing in for Fort Sumter.

James's avatar

Can't disagree. But when efforts to obstruct justice are literally being coordinated from the corner office at DOJ, we kind of have to take what we can get.

Steve 218's avatar

Aye, but we dinnae have to like it or keep shtum.

Robot Bender's avatar

IANAL, but my understanding is that they can only arrest for immigration violations. Other police actions are not in their duties.

Doug G's avatar

Robert, type nazis.us in your search engine and see where it brings you (ok, I'll tell you: the DHS webpage!). A clever candidate for office in Florida just registered the name.

donna woodward's avatar

That's the theory.

Steve 218's avatar

Apparently they (ICE operatives) do not understand these limits.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

They may not legally do anything to anyone not directly related to immigration enforcement. That said, they apparently have not gotten the memo. And are continually bending this proviso. "the Roberts Star Chamber." I love that!

James's avatar

My concern is this: now that a judge has ruled that they may not arrest non-violent protesters, they will make sure that protests turn violent. They've already done this numerous times.

Yeah, Star Chamber. Pass it on.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

Oh yes; the agenda is to gin-up “violence” so they can yell “He’s/She’s getting violent!”

The angry citizenry is increasingly confronting them and in some cases they seem to fold. In others they throw and shoot things at the crowd.

I think they should be compelled to take “Police” off their vests. They are not that.

No one should be fooled by that.

They’re undisciplined and could open fire like they did before. They need more of their wings clipped.

James's avatar

If they provoke enough violence, they can invoke the Insurrection Act. Great way to suspend midterm elections in blue states.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

Not without first establishing a police state. And that is far away.

I would believe that he and Project 2025 have projected this idea. But the states are in charge of elections. He can’t take that away.

Suppose he tried to pull that bs. This isn’t the Watts riots, the Michael Brown riots in St. Louis (which I saw in real time), or Kent State. The local police can handle it all. If they can’t, then the National Guard is called up. There’s no need for the insurrection act. The courts would strike it down. And in any case that’s not the same as establishing a police state.

He IS establishing precedent, in my opinion, right now, as he tries to pull these amateur moves. He is trying to build momentum, yes. But people are getting killed. The courts have no patience for that. He sends incompetent lawyers in to defend the regime. The judges shake their heads.

The governors know: quell it before it goes too far.

But even so, it’s ICE that’s out of line here. They are only authorized to interact in immigration enforcement. Nothing else.

Yet it’s our worry that helps us anticipate the regime’s potential moves. Use it constructively.

I am so proud of what Norm does in pursuing legislation so quickly, so well, and so successfully. He, and the others who are fighting so hard for our democracy, are my heroes.

Andrew Goldstein's avatar

I believe that one of the most crucial issues that needs to be addressed is protecting free and fair elections in November. Minimizing Trump’s efforts to intimidate Americans with federal goon squads is one important step, as is countering the spread of disinformation now that the double edge sword of AI is upon us.

Wishing the Contrarian great success in achieving all of its efforts to preserve democracy and the rule of law.

I continue to applaud you Norm and all those you mentioned. Thank you.

Rays of hope...this newsletter did a lot to dispel the funk I've been mired in. Thank you for your your determination and fight.

I have gleaned from various sources that ICE agents who ministered immigration duties have quit in protest of the swarm of thugs that have swarmed the agency. What can be done to thwart the real danger of these lawless people from infiltrating voting polls and intimidating voters in the next election?

George B Jennings's avatar

As always Norm, you all are rock stars at The Contrarian, and I have recently and gladly renewed my subscription.

Simply said, ICE agents need to be arrested, tried, and convicted in state and local courts to remove them from any protection they might think they have in the federal courts and future pardons. Congress needs to lock up their funding and reduce it greatly in the upcoming budget considerations, and as Daniel and others have noted below, the SCOTUS needs to be constantly reminded that they are under review by the US public, and their pay and positions are not immune from alteration, and even total loss.

It is time that those of us who are not attorneys, and whom feel boxed in by the law, need to understand the most effective thing we can do NOW is constantly alert felon Trump, his administration, and the SCOTUS that we find their collegiality totally unacceptable, and that we will make sure that we will make alterations to their presently comfortable complicity that will render them no longer effective and a present danger to our democracy. They have damaged it enough.

I subscribed first and foremost to The Contrarian. And that is how it will be. Thank you, Norm, for giving us hope in these dark strange times.

On behalf of our Jewish citizens, neighbors, partners, friends and loved ones, and in addition in support of my soul, I will contact Governor Shapiro and our PA Attorney General today and urge them to refuse to cooperate with the Trump administration's frightening and disturbing request for the names and personal information of Jewish students at the University of Pennsylvania.

patricia's avatar

that is very bad. Jewish students are a large % of their student body

And what's next, I wonder? If they can create one group that's being targeted they can create any number of groups. If they ever create a file of liberal old lady activists, I'm toast.
