I don't want $1700. I want every last cent that these POS's gained from their frauds and manipulations while the trump regime has been in office. Going further, every last cent that they stole in the last 12 years.

Terry Westby's avatar

In the words of Jen Rubin: Exactly!!

We were calling our Dem political leaders spineless for a while, but the MAGA Republicans and craven CEOs have elevated spinelessness to whole new level. We must elect Dems to ensure that Trump's request for a $1.5 trillion military budget does not pass, not even close. Among other reasons...

Daniel Solomon's avatar

"Spineless." IMHO Putin/MAGA have been running a longstanding effective psy ops operation to divide Democrats. We are a minority party and need to do jujitsu to pass anything through Congress.

We may not have an election. We have to convince Congressional Republicans to come forward...NOW!

Jane in NC's avatar

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for republicans to step up.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

You are in a state where we have hope. Election today. Tillis is a wild card.

We only need 9 nationally to flip the House.

Jane in NC's avatar

I'm in a state that's so ridiculously gerrymandered by the republican lege that we actually have an expression for it: "We're not red, we're rigged." Tillis is retiring, so the choice here in 2026 is between former Gov. Roy Cooper-D or Trump acolyte Michael Whatley-R. The Rs see this state as a must-win, so they're throwing everything at us to keep that senate seat from flipping. But regardless of where you live, don't treat ANY election as if it's not winnable. Remarkable things have already happened last year and this in Trump +10 or greater areas. We need to have hope, regardless of where we live.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

@Jane. As a lame duck, Tillis can join with the 5 Senate Republicans who oppose usrpation of war powers. NOW!

Jane in NC's avatar

Yes, of course. But you referred to today's election right before mentioning Tillis. Wasn't sure you knew he's not running again.

patricia's avatar

read on AOL complaining soldiers have reported the war as divine per their commanders...the ambassador to Israel is preacher what's his face from Arkansas...

John Fisher's avatar

So you are saying that we should support the Democratic establishment because they are slightly less spineless than the “MAGA Republicans and the craven CEOs”? Let the jellyfish wars begin!

Charles's avatar

There is a difference between having little power to accomplish goals and having the power and failing to use it at all. I agree that the Democrats can do more with the limited power they have. On the other hand, the Republicans have powers assigned by the Constitution. They are totally failing to make use of that power. They truly resemble a tidal pool of jellyfish.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

No, not Support the weak ones, but look for the ones who are doing their utmost to counter all this. And support them fully. And there are plenty of them!

Keep the Trump Epstein Epic War in the headlines.

Inflation is a distraction.

Don Kennedy's avatar

So is the war. For Trump, everything is a distraction from the Epstein files, which were about to get very very bad for him.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Seems that every time things get hot re Epstein, Trump attacks.

In January, after the capture of Nicolás Maduro, five Republican senators—Rand Paul, Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Todd Young, and Josh Hawley (R-MO)—initially voted to advance a resolution to restrain military action.

But “...should the President determine that he needs to introduce US Armed Forces into hostilities in major military operation in Venezuela, he would seek congressional authorizations in advance (circumstances permitting),” Rubio told them and as a result, Young and Hawley switched their votes to oppose Trump.

We need to pressure them and Wicker and the other members of Armed Services and other Senate committees that deal with national security.

Happy Valley No More's avatar

Why would anyone believe anything that this regime has to say. Every one of them LIES especially the FOTUS!

Steve 218's avatar

When Trump didn't get the traction on Epstein that he was looking for, Venezuela provided the distraction, and when that didn't work, he doubled down, (as he always does) by inserting us into Iran. There was and is no imminent threat to the U.S.

Don Kennedy's avatar

“ Seems that every time things get hot re Epstein, Trump attacks”

Yep, that’s the Roy Cohn in him. Never retreat, always fight back.

Notice the weasel caveat in Rubio’s statement – “circumstances permitting”. In Trump‘s world, circumstances never permit.

Yes to holding those senators accountable for their votes, and how do they feel now that Rubio has obviously lied to them.

CE's avatar

Epstein expands, economic numbers worsen, we have gone to war on behalf of Bibi Netanyahu to keep him in power, our very White House has been desecrated and defaced, and still Congressional Republicans support this madman.

Justin Sayne's avatar

And Republicans like Lindsay Graham are still “kissing ass”! They sure don’t work for us! OUT with them!

Don Kennedy's avatar

They support the madman because their constituents support the madman. Too many Americans actually want what Trump is doing.

Steve 218's avatar

The number of Trump supporters is slowly declining. His cult members aren't getting what he promised them, and they're slowly becoming disillusioned and coming to their senses - at least some of them.

Marilyn's avatar

I am no fan of Bibi. He is Israel's tRump but he's not a moron.

The moron started the war because there is something for him in at, as he probably sees it. Israel, on the other hand, is fighting an existential war. Remember when the Jews were marched into the gas chambers and then burned. After the war, people asked why the Jews went like sheep. Israel will not allow Iran to do what the Germans did.

CE's avatar

Indeed. But if Israel wants to fight an existential war, the United States doesn’t have to follow like those very sheep. Israel’s interests and those of the US are not necessarily in 100% alignment. Trump has allowed Netanyahu to lead him around by the nose. Helping Israel and taking the lead on a massive pre-emptive strike, not approved by our Congress or discussed with our allies is madness.

Tommye K Mayer's avatar

Jen, please remove the phrase "Epic Fury" from your vocabulary and replace it with "Operation Epstein Fury". We must not allow him to wag the dog & remove the focus on the Epstein Class. There are no bygones to let be with regard to the Epstein Class. They must all meet accountability. And yes, in my opinion, if you consorted with Epstein and his class, you were complicit. You had a duty to stand up and be counted, to blow the whistle, and Shut It Down.

tRump is careening about the news cycle, ricocheting off various events. There is no thought behind his actions. Only avoidance of the latest ratings disaster... and, every 'fix' costs lots of money and that doesn't matter to the man who doesn't pay taxes.

Tom Coggin's avatar

I like that gas at our intown QT in Atlanta went from $2.89 to $3.29 yesterday. This is better than any screaming shout outs!

Anne Pierce's avatar

Amen, Ms. Rubin. The question is not why 70-plus percent of Americans surveyed don't favor the war of choice, that apparently Israel pressured Trump into - the question is why as much as 25 percent think it's a good idea. Casualties for the US and many more for civilians, not only in Iran, billions of dollars wasted, and greater instability as countries attempt to pick up the pieces.

Steve 218's avatar

One poll indicates that 85% are against this war. There's not much support, and we were never consulted or even offered a good reason for going to war. Trump's "because I want to" is a poor reason, and doing so in support of Netanyahu, a war criminal, is worse.

Hummingbird3's avatar

Not just Israel but Faux News talking heads manipulated trump to bomb Iran as well (HCR Letters yesterday). So the same bs is absorbed by the loyal Faux News viewers. These are the morons who support the current illegal, no reason, poorly thought out war and still support trump.

Susan Iwanisziw's avatar

I appreciate the breakdown of how the economy is handled by a group of serious economists who are not impressed by the whims of a corrupt fed chair.

Jim (Bombguy24)'s avatar

I still don't see Democrats offering up any kind of rational policy recommendations. It's still, seemingly, let's get rid of Trump and America will return to normal. Elect Democrats to Congress and get rid of those awful Trump sycophants. Unfortunately, focusing on how egregious Trump is does little to allay concerns about Democrats feebleness and lack of leadership - not to mention coherence. Remember, half of America distrusts Democrat leaders and pointing out how bad Trump is doesn't make anyone feel better. You want the votes? Then start presenting policy initiatives that a majority of Americans can rally behind. Remember too that when Trump is gone, all the people who support and enable him will still be there. They're not going to go away.

Jason's avatar

There's also the problem that plenty of Democrats actually support this war in principle, and are only complaining that they weren't asked first.

Luckily there are some that are taking strong and unambiguous stands against the war...we will see which side prevails...

And, of course, the US still has a bipartisan alliance with a country that has committed genocide and imposes apartheid with our help and is currently occupying two other countries. Rubio all but admitted that we are in this war because of our alliance with Israel.

I know people in these comments always yell at me when I say it, but it's still pretty hard for me to take Jennifer Rubin's criticism of this war very seriously. This is the same woman who loudly, emphatically championed the Iraq War for over a decade, even long after most of her then-fellow neocon Republicans has turned against it. The pro-war statements we see now from the GOP are barely different from things Rubin said as late as 2014, just change the 'Q' in Iraq with the 'N' in Iran. The lies that war was based on were just as transparent as the lies today.

I am glad she has changed, but she has never once publicly accounted for, or apologized for, her longstanding support of that war.

Many of us would love to see an Iran that is stable and open to the world. I personally have always wanted to visit Iran and enjoy the amazing history and culture it offers, if not, obviously, for the government. Still, simply killing the current leadership with the hope that somehow everything will return to normal is foolish to the extreme. The citizens have no weapons and the IRGC has all the weapons. There are a number of disparate factions throughout Iran that will go in any number of directions, further contributing to the chaos and loss of life - both in Iran and the surrounding countries. In the meantime, all the Iranians I've met over time have been wonderful people, people just as kind and welcoming as every other country I've visited. They are the ones who will suffer the most. And remember, America's interventionist history with Iran is not without responsibility.

Jason's avatar

In the last 2 years, Israel and its partner, the US, have killed 100,000 people in Gaza, with more every day (when counting all those still buried in the rubble, and who died from disease, starvation, freezing to death...)

This alliance has killed thousands more in the West Bank, in Lebanon, and now in Iran.

Where's the regime change for Israel?

The hypocrisy is staggering.

“It’s up to Democrats to force spineless Republicans to own the disasters that they allowed to unfold.”

Old adage: “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”

As long as the Republicans continue to abdicate their duty to work for the American people….as opposed to what they do now, I.e. work in slavish fealty to the whims of wrecking-ball Trump…..America’s best interests will not be served.

The ONLY solution, and ONLY hope is to vote these complete Losers OUT! Vote BLUE…no matter what else you do!

I'm no economist but your suggestions of what Dems should focus on makes sense to me. Keep it simple and talk to people where they are.

Science Curmudgeon's avatar

Don't forget the influence of the continuing staffing cuts. Patel just fired a bunch of staff from the FBI unit that specializes in Iranian counterintelligence. Is he preempting the 25th Amendment, or is he really that stupid?

Robert Lastick's avatar

Simply put, our country's government no longer works.

Jane in NC's avatar

The Dems should also target Trump's ridiculous obsession with keeping us reliant on old energy like oil and coal, which makes every American vulnerable to sudden spikes in prices for home heating and gasoline. When he should have been pushing new, alternative energy, he instead wants to keep us reliant on his buddies in the Middle East, you know, the ones funding his and Kushner's crypto, private equity and real estate ventures.

The message should be clear and simple: Trump is costing you money!

Shannon Starks's avatar

I wish Trump’s approval ratings were truly “plummeting” as people continue to report. Far worse than Trump, for me, is the massive following he still has. That so many people prefer cruelty and corruption when caring and decency are real options is cause for a major paradigm shift. The only way forward is massive numbers of people uniting behind truly democratic system change, and we all have to decide if it’s worth our own effort.

Robert Lastick's avatar

I have been depressed for months, Shannon.

We have to find a patriot with guts soon!

Shannon Starks's avatar

A patriot with guts can do nothing without a great deal of support. David Hogg and Amanda Litman each have organizations to find and support “patriots with guts.” There are many, many people working tirelessly with the resources available to them. These people give me hope. But like you, I fear the damage will be unfathomable before we are prepared to turn things around. Doing something positive—anything positive—helps me avoid despair. We gotta hang in there!

Robert Lastick's avatar

We are all deciding if we can handle freedom and liberty or not. As of this writing, it seems "we the people" continue to fail.

We cannot handle democracy. We need a dictator we can lean on. How sad is that!?

Shannon Starks's avatar

Or rather, a dictator who will lean on us. There’s an analogous story in the Hebrew Bible. For me, this is too sad to find appropriate words.

I know how we can save money! ICE has a huge budget and tons of really nifty war gear and armored cars. Let's redeploy them to attack Iran. They are already "combat-ready" after LA, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Plus, I bet they would really love it if they had a more challenging opponent than Americans in frog costumes. They even have their own airplanes.

So, enough of this confusion, let's get Commander Noem and her male concubine, Corey Lewandowski, outfitted in war duds, and tell Kash Patel that he and his girlfriend need to share their plane with the ICE Army, and let them all march off to fight a "righteous war".

It wouldn't cost us anything, and think of the many ways this would solve our nation's problems!! Thank you for your service, brave Americans!
