Just wait! tRump is replacing the current batch of local ICE leaders with a higher level of thugs from Border Patrol. When Winter Vegetables are simply unavailable in January, remember this. It is another self-inflicted wound courtesy of the Orange Menace.
I fear it is Trump’s Gestapo, and the current expansion of activity is expanding his troops so he can attempt to remain in power regardless of the 2026 election results. You don’t need to storm the Capitol if you’re already there.
My apologies - the Gestapo dealt with political matters and applies more directly to 47’s cabinet. ICE activities correlate more frequently with other components of Hitler’s Protection Squadron, aka “Schutzstaffel”, or “SS”.
• The Allgemeine SS was responsible for enforcing the racial policy of Nazi Germany and general policing, whereas
• the Waffen-SS consisted of the combat units of the SS, with a sworn allegiance to Hitler.
• A third component of the SS, the SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV; "Death's Head Units"[2]), ran the concentration camps and extermination camps. Additional subdivisions of the SS included the
•Gestapo and the
•Sicherheitsdienst (SD) organisations.
Please consider referring to them as the “ICE-ICE” in recognition of their roots.
when anyone is sent to south sudan, all i can conclude is that it is an extermination. it was reported that a man originally from laos was deported to south sudan.
I say they are drump's SA Sturm Abwehr. Drump's brownshirts. Tasked with beating up opponents and harassing and attacking the "enemy" (used to be the Jewish people for the SA, now and only for the moment the Spanish speaking people).
Some food for thought. The majority of Americans support democracy. The Republican Party has been taken over by a far right radical group and is no longer the Republican Party, it has been hijacked. And many of those Republican people are appalled by this takeover of their party. This radical group has an agenda to ‘flood the zone with shit’ so good people are confused, overwhelmed and end up feeling hopeless and so don’t fight back. So. Don’t let them grind you down. Find the people around you who are not maga and speak with them, work with them to see that there’s a lot of hope. To see that many good people are working hard to get rid of this blight on America. These maggots want you to lose hope. The most effective thing you, or any of us, can do is to never give up hope. Even when it all looks and feels hopeless. It is not. Start looking for people to follow that will bring you hope. Robert Reich, the Meidas Touch Network, Heather Cox Richardson to name just a few. From them you will find more!
In the last No Kings rally in our relatively small south-central Illinois community, people who previously had Trump signage in their yards were in attendance, now carrying signs not in support of him. If it's happening here, it's surely happening elsewhere. There are cracks forming in their structure.
Very nice thoughts. You are correct that "hope" will make us feel better. In Germany, Russia, China, and all the other areas of our world, where fascism, communism, dictatorship, and more have existed and continue to exist, hope may help those who have no voice and no democracy feel better. However, authoritarianism, or dictators, rule with an iron hand. One that punishes anyone who may openly object to their rules! This is where we are today.
Unless this is recognized for what it is, and we understand that "hope" will not stop the wealthy supporters of the Heritage Manifesto, which outlined Trump's every move, and recognize that we are in a Civil War and that our leaders need to develop ways to fight this, and not just discuss its obviousness, we will fall further.
I was not trying to minimize the seriousness of rising fascism at all. I was responding to the main persons comment which suggested she was feeling hopeless, that so many Americans support trump. My intent was to point out how many people are working hard to overthrow fascism, hence the hope. Not just nice words, nice ideas. But real action is happening where Americans are confronting this fascist threat with real, true and often effective action. And that we can’t back down and get overwhelmed by hopelessness as they ‘flood the zone with shit’ (Project 2025’s real words, real strategy).
I have said the same in other comment sites, that the Republican Party is no longer the Republican Party. The traditional Republicans, such as McCain, Romney, Bushes, Reagan, Cheney who lost a reelection, Portman from Ohio, etc etc, are either dead or have resigned. It is this ferocious, vicious, ignorant, racist cult that has been allowed to take over this political party, starting with the Tea Party jerks years ago. Frankly, Trump was widely hated among traditional Republicans, and seen for what he was: inept, stupid, a con man, probably mentally ill, and totally inappropriate for the job. Unfortunately, and not even comprehensibly, the traditionalists stepped aside and let these crazy cult members take over, thus changing the course of our country. They felt they couldn't fight it anymore, as their ranks were aging, were dying, or just plain sick and tired of the ignorant and racist element. And also unfortunately, the young so-called Republicans were of the Maga variety, so the substitutes for the aging and dying were part of the cult. It's a friggin' miracle that MTG has somewhat changed her tune, and that even Cruz spoke up for Kimmel. My deep hope is that more of these deeply ingrained Magas will truly see how dangerous, dumb, and unconstitutional their so-called colleagues really are, and start to work against them, thus eliminating the base and weakening Trump's stranglehold. There are still young cult members I truly do not fully understand, e.g Rubio, even Vance, who has no self -insight whatsoever, and frankly, even Bondi, who at one time in her life, was a Democrat with a powerful father involved in Democratic politics in FL. What the hell happened to them?? I think I know the answer, but they will pay for it, big time, in time.
Trump came along and said out loud with a bullhorn what the Republican Base had always been thinking. He made their evil thoughts legitimate and they came out of the closet.
This is the consequence of a long-term Republican plot that liberals, in our generous naïveté, did not suspect for way too long. We assumed they were acting in good faith, as we were, whereas in fact, they were unscrupulously & tenaciously goal oriented while consistently calling liberals out for being partisan. It was a sucker punch & all too easy. We brought reason & fairness to a dogfight.
Yes. While we are all focused on Trump for good reason, let us not forget that he would not be in this position if not for Mitch McConnell. That man is the evil, cynical and calculating force behind creating all of this, including the so-called "Supreme" Court.
This is true, but ‘we the pro-democracy people’ have many more people who stand up against the cruelty, illegality and corruption of this rump regime!! Never give up: we can, and we will fight for our democracy!!
I think of Gandhi and the salt march. We can do this! But it takes people willing to sacrifice their own convenience and comforts and perks. We're not known for our sacrificing ways, alas.
This is our war for pro-democracy! Each of us has to do our part: shut down buying: this is coming and it will be up to each of us to participate! This is not the America we know, want or built our lives in, so chin up and show this rump regime we will not be silenced!!!!!!!
People deprived of the benefits that leadership is charged with providing, such as subsidies to the ACA, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, Head Start programs and FEMA will be sacrificing when they don't get them, as will all of us when the trickle-down effects of the tariffs continue to eat into our discressionary income. There will be a tipping point at some time. Count on it.
People who show up masked, armed, in private vehicles, and refuse to identify themselves need to be not just condemned but arrested and charged with assault, battery, kidnapping, refusal to provide identification, and any other appropriate charge for their actions.
I agree. If some ICE goons were arrested by local law enforcement for conduct that most certainly would not be tolerated by private citizens, maybe people would realize that they are not law enforcement, they are lawbreakers.
Nuremberg II trials may be in the offing for a number of people in this administration, and the ones who are too afraid of Trump to do their jobs should resign.
Unfortunately, the treatment inflicted by ICE is not unlike treatment that many people of color and other marginalized groups have experienced for decades. The proliferation of mobile phones has provided an easier way for ordinary citizens to document these attacks. Independent journalism such as The Contrarian has also helped to expose the unvarnished abuses of this administration.
I was born in 1951 and so was raised at a time when WWII and the Holocaust were very real things that adults talked about a lot. As a child, and ever since, at least until recently, I could never understand how the German people had allowed the Holocaust to happen. How do you sit back and watch your country's government get overrun while millions of your fellow citizens get slaughtered? Even as an adult I have watched other such episodes throughout the world, like in China with Mao Zedong's purges and Stalin's purges in Russia and Cambodia with Pol Pot and a whole host of other smaller ones, and remained unable to understand how a population can witness this kind of atrocity taking place and do nothing. But now with Trump and his thousands of "storm troopers" so ready to participate, and after watching this unfold from the inside while also watching Israel's performance in Gaza, I think I'm beginning to understand (and even if we in America are still a long ways from reaching the true atrocity stage). Too many people are simply weak and/or indifferent enough, or greedy enough, that they will either jump onboard what's going on or simply ignore it. That's who too many people are. There have been way too many such occurrences in modern history for me to argue against this point. But history is also full of peoples who have successfully stood up against such behavior. And this is why I think groups and publications like the Contrarian and No Kings and all the rest are so important right now. Too many Americans are ready to simply sit back and watch Trump carry out his destruction, even if they're against it. Ten months ago I never would have believed Americans would allow something like this to get even this far. But it's happening. And nobody's coming to save us unless it's ourselves. Trump is a monster. But it is our overall weakness, or indifference, as a people that so far is allowing his success.
Trump is a weak old man - his puppetmasters, the authors of Project 2025, are keeping him free of all restraint. His ruling instincts involve self-preservation and revenge. He craves praise, a surrogate for love.
Only the fools and syphocants will praise him. The rest of us? What has he done for (not to) us that warrants any praise? Honestly, can anyone think of anything?
You've expressed what is going on perfectly. Your post needs to be liked thousands of times. The only way that dictators and murderers have been stopped in the past should be a lesson to us. Carrying signs and wearing silly costumes will not end the disaster that we are experiencing. I don't think I need to say what will.
Because saying it will unleash the maelstrom. The signs and silly costumes united everyone and warmed them with that spark of hope. The violence of Trump's response shows that he understood. He can't see himself: when he joined in the Indonesian welcome troupe with such naive enthusiasm, (quickly joined with perfect diplomacy by his host, to make the behaviour look normal) he pictured himself as a lithe young man, not a stout one straining the seams of his jacket as he waved his hands in the air. If any of his ASEAN dignitaries set foot in Chicago they would be attacked by masked goons because of their skin color.
Re carrying signs, etc.: the NYC activist Dorothy Day used to say, "Everyone wants a revolution. Nobody wants to do the dishes." We each have a part in the grander goal, including sign-carriers and costume-wearers.
PS. I'm with you on "what will" end the disaster. Just in case you're looking for accomplices... :)
Many people respond negatively to my thought which is ICE hires white bad boys to beat up brown and black people. White bad boys have seemingly proliferated in the population. Of course, I am not castigating all white men. I am saying this is a subset of white men which is racist, violent, and without moral virtue. Is this really a new development in our society or has this subset of white men simply been given license by Donald Trump to publicly demonstrate their inferiority and hate?
Sometimes I wonder if the fact that the competitiveness of our business world has left some men with the need to dominate and take things out on people they can look at as less worthy than they are. That, to reduce their own feelings of inferiority in our competitive world.
I don't say this as an excuse, but for people to think about it.
Another annoying thought of mine. We used to let off steam with mean jokes that we
laughed at. Today we have to be politically correct. Sorry, but we used to laugh at our foibles. Now we just hate.
When Trump was divorcing his first wife, he wrote in the Post that he never had better sex than with Marla Maples. That was outrageous. His thought, that he could get away with anything and his public would still love him.
He's acted on that ever since and lower the bar on civility. He has encouraged racist, violent, un-civilied speach and actions as something to emulate.
These White men have always been around; fearing the Black man, that he is stealing their jobs, making him a minority, committing crimes against him and his friends. Trump merely capitalized on these irrational fears and made their expression more appropriate. It is indeed a subset, but popular for some, and noisy for certain.
ICE is now the Steven Miller / donald trump hybrid Waffen SS / Brown Shirts. It will, given time, develop into the White House (now Trump Whore House) directly controlled Armed Thugs - WHAT to remind suppliant citizens who is the MASTER. DT missed his calling as an understudy in NAZI Germany. As for Steven Miller, he would have been in a tricky position, but given his abilities he might have been able to make a go of it.
Here's what to look forward to: ICE hanging around polling places in urban neighborhoods, randomly checking the IDs of Latino-looking voters. This needs to be stopped before it happens. ICE needs to stand down on election day, at the very least. At the VERY least. Checking IDs and registration is the job of poll workers, not ICE. For ICE to do it is an illegal intervention of the federal government in state-run elections.
I hope city police departments are instructing their officers (who will be stationed at the polls) to arrest anyone that is attempting to stop a person walking into a voting facility. A show of force is neccessary. Arrests are neccessaey. As for the voters, yell out if you have to, but do not respond to any stranger approaching you.
I keep posting. According to Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) Trumpepstein may cause an "Epstein bomb" causing over 100 Republican members to "jailbreak" from Trump.
I have been reading about this so-called 'jailbreak' for weeks but have seen no sign of it in real life. Is that only because Johnson has kept the House out of DC for weeks on end? Or was it just wishful thinking from the start?
When a criminal is in charge, the government becomes a criminal enterprise. It sounds logical but disgusting. If those who are ethical and loyal to the Constitution resign, what remains is unethical and disloyal. Is there another choice?
Resignations aren't as much of the problem. It's the effective defenstrations committed by leadership that removes those who are "ethical and loyal to the Constitution" that is of greater significance.
"ICE" is America's Gestapo and the "detention centers" are our Concentration Camps. Remember "Concentration Camps" were NOT death camps. The industrialized murder came after the Wansee Conference in Dec. 1941. From 1933 to 1942, however, political opponents, homosexuals, mentally and physically handicapped persons, Gypsies and Jews were confined --without due process -- in Concentration Camps. That's what "Detention Centers" are. BEWARE what is coming! You can read more on the dangers at: https://hpschrader.substack.com/p/dictators-dont-hold-elections
Call ICE what it is. A terrorist organization.
Just wait! tRump is replacing the current batch of local ICE leaders with a higher level of thugs from Border Patrol. When Winter Vegetables are simply unavailable in January, remember this. It is another self-inflicted wound courtesy of the Orange Menace.
... when human beings are kidnapped and trafficked to unknown destinations, thereby limiting availability of winter vegetables...
They want fear to reign.

ICE has received a large influx of funding and personnel, and their leadership is dodgy at best. What could possibly go wrong?
The saddest part is that so many Americans support Trump, ICE, and the Republican Party. America is no longer the country we thought it was.
Some food for thought. The majority of Americans support democracy. The Republican Party has been taken over by a far right radical group and is no longer the Republican Party, it has been hijacked. Illustrated so charmingly by Trump with his colorful video response to the latest No Kings Day.
I appreciate the way you parsed it down to its basic elements.
We are in a civil war and we have to find ways to make that clear to those
standing on the sidelines, believing to not believe this is happening.
To me that's a reductive view of "hope" - it's that inner gleam that keeps us going despite terrible odds.
I have said the same in other comment sites, that the Republican Party is no longer the Republican Party. Exactly! What had been called the "Republican Base" in now MAGA.
What happened? Was it always line this but we had different leadership?
Trump came along and said out loud with a bullhorn what the Republican Base had always been thinking. He made their evil thoughts legitimate and they came out of the closet.
Yes; I've always said he gave them permission to be the awful people they actually are.
Yes. While we are all focused on Trump for good reason, let us not forget that he would not be in this position if not for Mitch McConnell. That man is the evil, cynical and calculating force behind creating all of this, including the so-called "Supreme" Court.
You said it beautifully.
We brought reason and fairness to a dogfight.
That's why Governor Newcomb's method strikes me as the right way.
He makes fun of their madness. He ridicules Trump. But, hey, that just
gives the Orange Menace something more to play off, sadly. .
In my view, the Democrats want to govern. The Republicans want to rule,
and it is their priority --- over governing --- which would mean cooperating
to run this fabulous country.
This is true, but ‘we the pro-democracy people’ have many more people who stand up against the cruelty, illegality and corruption of this rump regime!! Never give up: we can, and we will fight for our democracy!!

That's why I like the idea of a Trumpless Tuesday. One day a week when Americans
spend no money and let the Orange Menace see that we do have power over him
that he can't fight. Even if it is on paper. I just hope we can get under his skin.
Which reminds me of his strange hand blemish. Hmmmm. Something's getting him.
Hopefully.
I hope the tipping point will come in time to salvage what's needed to dethrone our baby king in 2026.
How about, was it ever the country we thought it was ?
So true
was it ever ?

"If". I wonder what would happen? How are the goons armed?
Gestapo is the word that comes to mind. The names of all ICE members needs to be recorded for later investigation and prosecution.
Nuremberg II trials may be in the offing for a number of people in this administration, and the ones who are too afraid of Trump to do their jobs should resign.
And who will prosecute them? While I agree with you, I think you are far too optimistic.
A change of administration should take care of this, especially a change at the top of the Department of Justice.
Unfortunately, the treatment inflicted by ICE is not unlike treatment that many people of color and other marginalized groups have experienced for decades. I think there are a lot of accomplices ready, at the end of their tether.
Seven million of us who showed up to say this is not ok is not weakness or indifference.

White men being hired to beat up Black and brown people is as old as America itself.
The sad thing is they don’t even have to be hired to do what they do
Sometimes I wonder if the fact that the competitiveness of our business world has left some men with the need to dominate and take things out on people they can look at as less worthy than they are. That, to reduce their own feelings of inferiority in our competitive world.

The ICE thugs have been referred to Brown Shirts for at least a couple of months now. Their actions are strengthening the parallels.
I don't think Goebbels would have welcomed a rival.
Here's what to look forward to: ICE hanging around polling places in urban neighborhoods, randomly checking the IDs of Latino-looking voters. This needs to be stopped before it happens. Just by being there, ICE will keep voters away. That’s voter suppression at its worst and is illegal— but MAGA will spin it as “protecting voters.”
Isn't influencing (or intimidating) voters illegal? Election officials would have every right to have them evicted from polling places.
They are simply modern day Gestapo. I prefer my ICE crushed.
Turn on the heat, melt the ice
Now, that's a very good one. That would fly well on tiny screens. Turn on the heat, melt the ice.
ICE is the new Stasi.
Call them ‘Gnome’s gnomes’.
We need human immigration legislation. Unfortunately, this regime doesn't want anything bordering on humane. Voting is our superpower.
I keep posting. According to Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) Trumpepstein may cause an "Epstein bomb" causing over 100 Republican members to "jailbreak" from Trump.
Massive Congressional visits November 18.

I have been reading about this so-called 'jailbreak' for weeks but have seen no sign of it in real life. Is that only because Johnson has kept the House out of DC for weeks on end? Or was it just wishful thinking from the start?
It will probably takle the vote on opening Trumpepstein. A "no" will be a vote to peotect preverts.
All the criminals are in the Trump administration. RIP irony.
Maybe translate “Gestapo”= Secret Federal Police
