Project 2025 and other coup designers figured out Americans prefer myths and popular narratives to evidence and especially don’t like those who promote more complex, often darker truths. They aptly reasoned killing democracy on behalf of oligarchs, racists and misogynists would be easy if wrapped in pretexts and hate mongering of “others”.

I fear most Americans and institutions will adapt and comply with erasing our nation’s true history in favor of false glory that elevates white Christian males and conquest. We’re a selfish culture and tend to look away until we or people we care for are directly impacted; by then no individual will have power or means to fight back. I hope for our children and their children I’m wrong.

Only some Americans feel and believe this way. Rule by minority never works well or for long, especially when it espouses such a radical agenda. Those deprived of government programs upon which they've come to expect and rely upon don't like it when the benefits stop flowing.

When we write history of the Trump regime it should be in the history books his regime was full of perpetual fake bullshit woke themes about most everything. Especially anything he disliked. A presidency full of pro Nazi actors and pro Nazi ideology.

I got dinged by the Washington Post comment moderator on this subject this morning. Why is this moron who has no interest or concept of history meddling with an institution that prides itself in presenting a true and valuable story of our country and history in general? Trump is as anti-history as he is anti-science, and against programs that assist people in many ways. The man is a disaster. Dictators ignore or rewrite history for their own agenda. This is wrong. How will we have a compass to point us if we don't know where we've been and how we got here?

Remember that the Bezos Beobachter has zero interest in printing anything that might anger the Trumpster.

How could anyone forget? Reminders are constant, from the hiring of William Lewis as publisher (a castaway trainee from Rupert Murdoch) to the departure of a list of responsible journalists (Jennifer Rubin being one). The paper is becoming the Washington clone to the NY Post. The Graham and Meyer families would be furious.

Yep, another sad commentary on the state of the press in America and a testament to another freedom going down the tubes!

We need to act NOW and get him out of office NOW!

The time for discussions on what he is and how bad he is, IS OVER.

Act now or bequeath to our sons and daughters Fascism.

Jeff Nesbit, thank you for your timely post!

When I read a few recent articles about the current president's comments regarding the Smithsonian, I figured he was expelling hot air as yet another distraction, and the Smithsonian would be safe. Your post was my wake up call.

I just always assumed the Smithsonian was our established "National Museum", managed? and curated by our Federal Govt, and, therefore, it's free of any political bias. I had NO idea that the Smithsonian is "ruled" by the Board of Regents, and the VP and Chief of the Supreme Court are automatically members of the Board. I'm cool with the VP and CoSC being members.

It's the "other members" that concern me. I spent the last 1.5 hours researching each member of the Board of Regents. There are some wonderful people on that Board with great resumes (from both parties), but there are 10 people on that Board who want to "tear the house down".

Apparently there's no work in the White House so its occupant can stay busy butting into every aspect of American life. Given the size of this infant's ego, I'm amazed the building hasn't sunk yet.

Speaking of memory, knowledge and political weapons, now is a good time to recall a warning and admonition by James Madison about all the above: "A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives."

Excellent article on what is happening in Trump's quest to destroy and push sanitized versions. More for Trump to nose into rather than seeing that he pays attention to his main responsibilities. He has already destroyed much of our federal government and services, so messing with the historical and factual basis of museums is continuing his mission. I like that the idea of writing to local museums was suggested, but I don't believe that route will accomplish anything. Other ideas?
