What a wonderful article. I’m going to order two of the books. The Fix & The Constitution. From an Independent bookstore. I wish my mother & her trouble making friends were alive. They’d be so all over this. Contrarians. We rule.“ Sisterhood is powerful.”
Great recommendations. I have already some of the books listed and I am happy I did.
What I am not happy about is the fact that we have to fight the same battles over and over again, since the 1960s. Thanks in incredibly large part to women who fight against us on the side of "their" men who often cheat on them and treat them like crap.
I grew up in Seneca Falls, NY, birthplace of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. All there was then was a plaque on a street corner, next to a laundromat (ironic, no?). And an elementary school named after her. Because it was part of our local history, we learned about the fight women had to gain the right to vote. Somewhere, I used to have a book entitled (if I recall correctly) "The Women of Seneca Falls."
If you are interested in the history of women's right to vote, Seneca Falls is a great place to visit. It is also an attractive town - in the summer.
