One of the best things about living in Rochester, NY was being only an hour's drive from Canada. For us, Toronto was the big city. My wife proposed to me at a Swenson's in Eaton Centre. And SCTV was much better than SNL, in my opinion. Thanks for the good memories.
I have visited Canada multiple times and loved it every time. In the last three years, we visited Vancouver, Montreal, and Burlington, Vermont. I know that Vermont is not Canada, but we decided to visit Vermont the next year, when we drove to Montreal.
An oft-forgotten point in articles like this: Canada's WHOLE REASON FOR BEING had been that it's NOT the USA! Refugees from the War for American Independence turned Fort York into what would become Toronto, and refugees from the Treaty of Paris' recognition that the new country would go forward as its own Thing were evacuated at Crown expense and resettled in the Canada territory (my own forbears in New Brunswick). Thence, invasion in the War of 1812 was repulsed (not before the Americans burned York ~ an act that was paid back the following year in the torching of the White House), and in the years following the US Civil War, Canada elected to become a Confederation readily capable of defending its territorial integrity should factions south of the border find it convenient to distract from the domestic upheaval of that conflict and the ensuing reintegration of the Southern states by fomenting hostilities in Canada AGAIN!
You neglected to mention all of the great Sci-FI made in Canada, including all of the Stargate series, Fringe, Battlestar, and the X-Files, to name just a few.

I have been to Vancouver B.C. twice and the Yukon Territories. Absolutely loved it. Canada is a beautiful country!
