That's a nice picture of Charlie in that field of green. He looks playful and a tad mischievous. My condolences to Azza and Kathleen re their loss of Rex.
I'm so sorry about Rex, Azza. Every moment together with a pet adds to that special history. Whenever a dog friend passes, I think of Elvis Costello's song about love: "Every day I write the book."
Our dogs teach us so much, if we are open and receptive of their messages, knowing that they lead/teach by example. It sounds like Charlie may be teaching us to savor the small things in life, noticing our meals, and relishing fine dining. And Rex also teaches us the value of being in the moment, but, at least, in this beautiful photo, his being alert in the moment, and aware of his people, seems accentuated. Both dogs model genuineness, whether than means finding joy in nature, and simply being happy, or whether that means being alert to a bigger world, unafraid to put others who appear "bigger" in their place. Yes, dogs are irreplaceable, and their love is so priceless, creates such a void when it is gone, they teach us to appreciate those we love, never to take that love for granted, as we learn to become more aware of the transitory nature of life's blessing and make the most of every day, recognizing its gift, even in these very troubled times.
Rex was luck to have his humans and vis a versa. Sorry for your loss. Our pets are part of.thebest things in life.

I am sad for your loss. We know it's coming, but it wallops us anyway. And then we go out and do it again. When the time is right.
Charlie looks like a giant sheep dog in a field of very tiny sheep.
Love your smile Charlie!
