Hail to our patriot pet of the week, Buttercup! But I've got news, my friend. If you truly want to drain the swamp, you're gonna need a bigger boat.

My ex used to set up aquariums for people, and this habitat for poor Buttercup is not sufficient for a goldfish with longevity and beauty and a need for some semblence of a life. All creatures deserve enough space to live in, and I like your comment.

I’m so grateful Buttercup is not a swamp critter.

So sorry Shalise on your loss. ❤️‍🩹

Just a suggestion from a Biology Dude: Get Buttercup a larger tank with an aerator and enrich her environment with plants, hiding places, etc. Even toys like little colorful floating plastic balls with a hole to dispense food. (Some bird toys can be adapted for fish). Working for food is a great enrichment. Practice target training--yes, fish can easily learn this. You will be surprised how she perks up and develops hobbies other than swimming in circles. Years ago I had a adopted pet goldfish that developed quite a personality thanks to an enriched environment. Yes, science has shown that fish can develop depression when in sterile environments or without others of their species (Great study on this with neon tetras). Hope to see updates on how Buttercup is doing in the future!

I love this comment! I guess we needed data to prove to us what any child can see - that a goldfish has needs, is curious and can even be social. Thank you, Biology Dude!

Very sorry to hear the sad news of Coco.

Congratulations for having such a determined goldfish. I hope that's not her current cage, and several better writers and experts have chimed in, but please get some expert help to transfer this gal to a bigger, better, more wonderful tank. She deserves it!

So sorry about Coco. I’ve been fortunate to have had three Rottweilers in my life and they were loving, devoted and intelligent.

Hopefully Buttercup is going to get a much more enriched environment soon!

Buttercup is beautiful, and so stylish with those gorgeous blue stones. Well done, Buttercup!

My heartfelt condolences to Shalise on the loss her lovely Coco. We lost our two Yorkies last year, and there's no loss worse than that of the unconditional love of our furry family. Much love to you, Shalise. We grieve with you.

Hello, cute Buttercup! So pleased to meet you.

Am very sad about Coco’s passing. Her Pet of the Week bio last August was one of my favorites. Rest in peace, sweet girl! Warm condolence hugs to Shalise and the Young family. 💔

Poor Buttercup. Trapped in Solitary Confinement; nothing but 10" of

rocks to observe; hoping that someone remembers to sprinkle her some dry, horrible food; dreaming of the Family that she absolutely CAN remember;

has heard tales of her ultimate demise being flushed down a toilet when the kid loses interest.

Sure! Let's give our kids this wonderful experience of Nature!

Hugs to Shalise as well. Every day with a dog as a best friend, you write the book of love.

Hello buttercup. And HOW does one keep a goldfish that long?

I am so so sorry about Coco.

We had a goldfish like that from a county fair named Georgia (George for short). That fish lasted 8 years! And grew into a 10-gallon tank.

My condolences to Shalise on her loss of Coco.

None of mine lasted long. Chlorine and crummy pet store goldfish. I can't help but wonder how many kiddie pools with chlorine kill off goldfish each year.
