Trump & Co: a RICO enterprise intent on retaining power by any means.

Jdg Carter denied Trump’s DOJ lawless request to set aside more than 20,000 California ballots with no trial & no appeal: "Never before in American history has the federal government, on the eve of an election, sought to coerce a state and local government to abandon their own Constitutional elections procedures and bend to the will of the Executive Branch.”

" the moral fiber of our democracy is at issue."

Truer words were never spoken.

But I still have hope. Because every classroom I substitute teach in has a version of American values as part of the school's culture. Respect, inclusion, honesty, self-restraint, are all listed on the acrostic set of school rules.

We can raise our children, and remind our adults, to adhere to these traditional virtues that have always made America great.

Much as in Putin's Russia. MAGATs = United Russia.

“It is not every election in which the contest between darkness and light, between hope and fear is so evident.” Vote for the light!

Vote AGAINST MAGATs at every chance, local, state & Federal.

Roughly 250 million adult U.S. citizens are eligible to vote in the 2026 midterm elections.

White Americans make up the majority (61%), but their share has fallen markedly.. Meanwhile, Hispanic (16%) and Asian (5%) eligible voters’ shares have almost doubled in the past 20 years. The share of Black eligible voters (12%) has changed little over the same period.

We are in GOTV. The Democratic Party has the names and details on every registered voter. In most states, we only need to concentrate on demographics to win.

President Biden said this six years ago. The election isn't about who the candidates are -- its about who WE are. Anyone who votes for corrupt, criminal, racists and misogynists has no morality, ethics or integrity. Period.

It's wonderful to see former President Obama on the campaign trail. Trump is desperately jealous of him - a person who is eloquent, well-educated, popular, and has a family that adores him. Trump will never have any of those advantages if he lives to be 100.

Steven Branch's avatar

As I have previously, Anne, I couldn't agree with you more. President Obama's speech last night in Georgia was a mix of eloquence, common sense, lofty inspiration and just plain old-fashioned decency. I am so glad he returned to the now famous comment he made 10/24/2026 in Cleveland about the vain-glorious sociopathic lunatic's thin-skinned reaction to The Cheesecake Factory.

Oh, and when Obama is the keynote speaker, the arenas are filled to capacity while the cognitively impaired dolt has to settle for a house full of empty seats.

President Obama has more class and intelligence concentrated into one of his hangnails than the orange menace has in his entire blob of a carcass.

Keep poking the bear, I say.

I loved the part where Obama talked about his "tight" beige suit, and owned that he looked good in it. Then the crowd chanted, "Yes you did." It made my night. This is a man with not only confidence and style, but a sense of humor, very unlike the Orange Melon.

Steven Branch's avatar

The comment about the tight beige suit was also one of my favorite parts of his speech. However, I suspect that Michelle will have a thing or two to say about that hubristic (but true) comment about looking good in the suit when he gets home. Oh, what wonderfully real people they are!

Anne, I wish you hadn't brought up the possibility of his living to be 100, even if hypothetically. What a horrible proposition! Considering the damage he's already done, another 100 hours is too many. Karma, hamberders and whatever is rotting his hands need to get on the stick and finish their work.

Anne Pierce's avatar

Agreed. He won't actually live to be 100.

Based on my recent observation of my late mother's experience with dementia, as compared with Donald's progress, I will be surprised if he lives to complete his term in the White House.

Some experts divide the progression into 5 stages; others see 7. Regardless of how one tracks it, Donald presents all the symptoms of one who is somewhere on the middle ground. I suspect he is further along than is apparent because he has a platoon of minders taking up the slack.

The question is how long his cult allows him to continue before they finally have to invoke the 25th. How infirm is too infirm?

David Moscatello's avatar

If there really is a blue tsunami, JD might finally see his chance to be called "Mr. President" by invoking the 25th amendment, or at least by not corrupting the Senate trial after the House impeaches Trump. And if Democrats take the House, they had damn well better impeach the corrupt, treasonous grifter. That would be Vance's ONLY chance, he doesn't have Trump's hold on maga and can barely pass as human, so he'll never win election in 2028.

Steve 218's avatar

Even if he does, his brain will be a skull-full of mush. It's already well on the way.

This is so true! Great summary. We watched the Obama speech in Georgia last night and WOW was he on point and FACTUAL in his dissertation. Interestingly enough, the picture you have on this message of truth is the CFP looks like there's nobody home in that feeble, demented head of his. The saying goes, "The lights are on, nobody's home" is the exact description of him in this picture, and the lights are only 10W, and he looks like he's almost sound asleep standing there!!! We voted in South Carolina already, GO BLUE!!!

I know Jennifer Rubin's writing without seeing the name because she so eloquently expresses my own desires. Yes, we desperately want this change. I too am tired of being angry and divided. I am anxious, but so hopeful the midterms will speak for the will of the people!

Not so long ago, no national politician could hope to continue after a scandal involving lying or sex. Now MAGATs are REQUIRED to lie & have sexual scandals. This is not the way my mother raised me.

In the Executive Branch there is a cabal determined to undermine democracy by pushing the boundaries of the Constitution. A faction of the Republican Party has been pursuing this goal since the 80s. Those of us determined to keep our democracy, and strengthen it further, need to vote overwhelmingly for Democrats, not because we agree with everything a diverse party advocates but because THAT party is the one working to restore & firm up our democracy. WE THE PEOPLE

Linda Mitchell, KCMO's avatar

Indeed, Ann. The logical progression of Reaganomics is the situation we find ourselves in now. Morally repugnant looters, grifters, and crooks now run most of the federal government and many state governments as well. They are going to resist being turned out of office and will do everything their well-heeled selves can muster to prevent it.

Ellen Lewis's avatar

Indeed. As Ruth Ben-Ghiat warns us, moral collapse on a societal scale is a stage of falling into an autocracy; we are at the point of determining as a society which side of moral right and wrong we go in our actions. Tim Snyder urges us often these days of the need to speak the word "morality" as a crux issue.

Teresa JV's avatar

His line that we cant fix anything until we fix our moral compass as a nation is brilliant. This truly is the root of the problem-ALL of us need to have a moral compass that is compassionate, mindful of the common good and educated. President Obama’s words have never been more needed! Thank you, Jen!!

Chris Dortch's avatar

This election is also about those of us who care about our country’s history, its democracy, and the brave souls who laid down their lives trying to defend it. In other words, it’s about true patriots vs. pretend patriots—especially in Congress and the Trump administration—who are actually just traitors.

Judy W.'s avatar

Trump and his minions are not simply campaigning. They are throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Shitty people believe them. This election is about rescuing America from their sewer. If they win, and wherever they win, it will continue to stink.

Regina Peruggi's avatar

Amen….if we lose here we lose everything we value.

Michelle Jordan's avatar

Depravity is definitely on the ballot popularized by the orange regime. For a president and a vice president to back the depravity of Vivek Ramaswamy says it all. We must vote like our democracy depends on it. It does and so do our lives. We should hope that these newly elected Democrats will put decency and honor before themselves and serve their constituents with dignity, integrity, honor and most of all personified democracy.

Ivan Tufaart's avatar

Donald "Don the Con" Trump is a fascist and a racist, and he doesn't bother to attempt to hide either. And to top it all off, he's as crooked as a corkscrew!

Steve 218's avatar

What a demeaning comment likening Trump to a corkscrew. The latter has value and is good at its job (pulling corks from wine bottles). The former has no disernable value.

Dale Rowett AR OK VA PA NY's avatar

I dunno, Steve. I think Donald has value ... as an example for ourselves and our children of all that we should aspire NOT to be. To wit:

Do not be a liar. Do not be a cheater. Do not be a thief. Do not be a slacker. Do not be a racist. Do not be a misogynist. Do not be a homophobe. Do not be a religious bigot. Do not be a bully. Do not be a glutton. Do not be a grifter. Do not be illiterate. Do not be a fraud. Do not be ...

Steve 218's avatar

Okay, I can go for that. We do have to be able to see the difference though there are still roughly 30% who still view Trump as acceptable. What do they teach their kids?

Dale Rowett AR OK VA PA NY's avatar

Therein lies the problem. The cultists don't teach their kids. And they don't support the educators who try.

85% of the 30% you mentioned are evangelicals. They believe that teaching the Bible is the only education one needs, as it has "all the answers." Evangelicals dwell in the Hebrew Scriptures, aka The Old Testament, and are fans of the petty, jealous Jehovah who wreaks havoc on all his enemies, smiting everyone in sight. Evangelicals perpetually feel persecuted and live for vindication. They want a hero who will conquer their perceived enemies and put them in charge of everything. The score will be settled by the Battle of Armageddon. Anyone who pushes for that battle is A-O-K, regardless of his personal depravity.

The woke Jesus of the New Testament is no more than a good luck charm whose name is invoked at the end of every prayer in order to force God to do as they demanded.
