"federal agents, who dropped down from helicopters in the middle of the night to crash through windows, break down doors, lob flash-bang grenades, point guns at unarmed residents, and reportedly use zip-ties on children".

And where, I ask you, is the push back?

Where, I ask is the outrage?

Where are the journalists pointing fingers at these actions and stating point blank that this is NOT democracy?

Where are the judges? How many have the GUTS to stand tall with the Portland judge and say NO?

Where is the morality? What can these ICE agents possibly say to their family when they return to Texas? That they are proud of defending democracy by zip tying children in Chicago?

ICE agents will never be allowed to forget this treasonous behavior. It will follow them and their family always.

Honestly, as someone who calls Chicago home, the response is about getting organized and I see efforts to do that everywhere. And I see people showing up. 600, I heard, attended a local elected official’s meeting at a high school. They want to know what they can do. I went to a similar well-attended meeting organized by northwest side progressive leadership (mostly Latino leadership). At that meeting, I joined a group that presented on what the public schools are doing, including learning from LA’s experience. I see excellent work coming from local journalists/media, including lawsuits to counter Trump regime activities that prevent them from doing their jobs. This is our home. We feel under attack. The response is to get organized. If you don’t live in Chicago, you may still be able to help. See this info (link below) and ask yourself what you can do from afar. Because you will not like it when this begins to happen in your home.

While ICE is operating in communities of color, the dividing line between Latino and white communities is often not hard and fast. I live in what’s called a “majority-minority” community, so like half and half. ICE activity is here and in surrounding areas. I heard that ICE has staked out a food pantry east of here, further in the direction of gentrified Lincoln Square. My point is that we white people know that ICE is now operating where we live so they can crack down on our neighbors of color. I shop at a grocery store where Spanish is the primary language. Today as a Latino plumber left my house and I remarked on enjoying the beautiful weather, he said, “Yes, if only we can get ICE out of Chicago.” It’s a sentiment we can all get behind.

This has absolutely nothing to do with fighting domestic crime outside of the federal government. The government is manufacturing crime all by themselves. This has nothing to do with deporting illegal immigrants for committing crime inside the United States. No reasonable American would argue otherwise about deporting immigrants who have committed a crime especially a felony offense. This is about a racist psychopathic president who hates democrats, blue cities and immigrants whether they are legal U.S. residents or not. This is everything about exacting retribution against people they hate. Put simply it’s about hate but more about control.

Orange hates everyone. Orange doesn't like his own kids. He's not capable of it.

I live in downtown Chicago with views of Lake Michigan and north Michigan Ave. I love living in the middle of this exciting city. I love watching the streams of people strolling along Michigan Avenue, eyes big as they take in the hustle and bustle of the city, marvel at the soaring high rises and the beautiful architecture, smile as they get their first glance at our glistening lake! Since the Trump invasion, the crowds have all but disappeared, no one is strolling through the parks or window shopping. Few people are out enjoying our beautiful weather, which will be gone too soon! I get it, why would anyone want to risk being accosted by ICE and then gaslighted when they push back? Why would anyone voluntarily enter what Trump keeps telling us is a war zone? FOLKS—IT IS NOT. Why does the news coverage continue to play Trump’s lie, and that Governor Pritzker is unwilling to protect citizens? Why don’t those national news agencies send their reporters and cameras to Chicago to cover the war? Please come and film the streets, any street—people have a right to know if there is a war here. It’s maddening that they are helping Trump spread the lies to justify the invasion. If they don’t want to overtly defy him, then just stop, please STOP helping him. Just ignore him…without the assistance of the news agencies, he will be less able to turn our lives upside down. Don’t we all want that for ourselves? PLEASE SHARE 🙏

The best journalism on what’s happening in Chicago is local journalism. See the Chicago Sun-Times & WBEZ, also BlockClub Chicago. No firewall but consider leaving them a donation to support their work. Chicago Tribune reporting is probably good but I dropped my subscription because their editorial board too often spews right-wing talking points. And there are smaller even more local outlets like South Side Weekly, which did an outstanding and lengthy report about the raid on the apartment building.

If this is not a war zone, what is it? It’s our home, our community. And if this can happen in our home and community, it can happen anywhere. There’s nothing special or different about us. We’re Americans living our lives in a place we love and where we feel we belong.
