Sorry, but every time I hear a discussion of whether this was a joke, my question is - what was the funny part? Iran could take out American cities and we'd be ok, it would be a small price to pay, so in that case, take out Los Angeles and San Diego. Hahaha?
We should accept the framing that it's funny to suggest sacrificing millions of Americans because their state didn't vote for Trump? THAT's their joke. So instead of arguing about whether he meant it as a joke, let's understand he said it knowing MAGA would think it was funny. Funny to "joke" about killing millions of Americans who didn't vote for Trump.
So when they tell us he was joking, can we ask them to explain the joke?
Words matter, especially if you are President. Trumps statement made during our current war with Iran is egregious and incredibly reckless. Iran is not known for keeping a level head when it comes to decisions about enemies. Newsom is correct in saying that this is also treasonous. Trump basically put a big red arrow on LA and San Diego, (which is the principal port for the US Pacific Fleet) which is a danger to everyone there. The Republican silence is inexcusable and shows to the voters how seriously they take their Congressional vows to uphold our laws and maintain allegiance to our country. We have a chance to change the trajectory of this country from a downward spiral under Trump, and we need to take it on November 3rd. It is not an exaggeration to say that we are in a perilous situation on all fronts.
Well, as Jack White posted, Republicans live in both of those areas. How are they squaring this rhetoric? Or what of the Republicans who vote by mail enduring the Loser's attacks on voting by mail when he, himself, votes by mail? It's the people on his side staying silent who should have big targets on their backs.
"Trump’s latest insane, arguably treasonous, and definitely impeachable detour was suggesting that Iran “can take out a city, let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay.”, IS, Jill definitely (not arguably) treasonous And it is not the only treasonous words we have heard him utter.
I, and many around me, have recently been quite worried about how others choose to exercise their right to vote. After being to the front line of Trumps war to eradicate American democracy, I understand completely WHY he has offered two up two American cities to be obliterated. What I am waiting to see is if the 76 MILLION "people" who voted for him now agree with him that it should be San Diego and L.A. that Iran should be allowed to wipe out. Lets put it on the ballot this November. What two American cities do you feel we should allow Iran to eradicate? I, personally, would not leave my couch to vote for such a blasphemy, but it would allow 76 million American voters to exercise their badly out of shape gray matter.
I’m not ignoring it but I’m also not going to waste much energy analyzing it. This is hardly the first outlandish statement Trump has made and it definitely won’t be the last. Election Day is quickly approaching. Let’s continue to speak about the kitchen table issues confronting Americans and the corruption and atrocities that are being committed daily. Let’s speak about the Epstein files that by law should have day-lighted by now. Ask Republicans what their plans are for unaffordable healthcare, housing, Social Security and Medicare. Iran has no nuclear weapons and, if they did, cities in blue California aren’t likely to be their first targets. An empowered Republican majority after November is a greater and more likely threat to our welfare and democracy.
How is he now any different from Assad? Trying to get citizens of the country slaughtered is close enough to actually slaughtering them that The Orange Guy is just as horrific as Assad and just as guilty of shredding this country and what it stands for, what actually made this country great, i.e., everything he just can't stand because it might hurt his huge, but completely fragile, ego.
Donnie, baby, wants the people of those two areas--I'm sure many more, but he's starting with those 2--merely because the citizens of those states actually exercised their constitutionally guaranteed rights to live in a free country, a republic--i.e., a representative democracy--that guarantees our rights to make our own choices, as long as they don't harm others, about whom to vote for. Our OWN choices, whether poor, little Donnie falls to pieces or not.
Slaughter citizens of the United States merely for being United States citizens. Way to go, Donnie. You couldn't prove any more openly what a total ignoramus you are about the U.S. and just how much you lie every time you open your mouth, especially when you actually try to claim you love this country. HA!

I think we should ALL act now to "take out" both Trump (NOW!!!!) and his blasphemous MAGA stooges come November.
Haven't we (as a country) endured enough of their brand of Autocratic Fascism yet!!??

I feel safer in San Diego now because his endorsement is the kiss of death. Nobody will take that bet. He just sparks outrage. Don’t fall for it.
