Let's suppose that Iran agrees to open the Strait in consideration of our president's agreement to a mutual ceasefire. The US president agrees to postpone his war crimes for two weeks. What happens at the end of the two weeks, if the parties cannot agree to terms of a settlement? There is also the Netanyahoo wild card: will he agree to a two-week ceasefire and will he keep his promise? So far no ceasefire has been honored by him. The bigger question is, will this president accept reasonable terms? If he doesn't get everything he's demanded, what will he do in two weeks? Can he really be relied on?
Now is the time for his Cabinet to say, "We do this or we will remove you, Boss." And they take the nuclear codes from him.
