Hi fellow Contrarians!! Hopeful news from NC - Federal Judge Richard Myers ordered the NC State Board of Elections to certify the results that Justice Allison Riggs (D) won the NC Supreme Court election this fall! Her opponent (who’s been trying to overturn the results by throwing out thousands of ballots) has 7 days to appeal to the 4th US Circuit Court, so it ain’t over, but it’s a good step.

Mark Warner can take a leap off a big cliff. He voted for the Laken Riley act...the law which is responsible for Kilmar Garcia Abrego's arrest--as well as many others..sent to a gulag without due process. No Dem who voted for this law will get a dime from me. It's a scandal and a shame. He did not stand for the rule of law; Warner abetted racism.

I feel the same way, unless they have gotten better. One of my senators also voted for LR, but has cast only votes I agree with since. I'm giving her a pass and will continue to support her since she seems now to have figured things out. She was a new senator at the time. Allsobrooks.

I just wanted to tell you that Alsobrooks was NOT one of the senators who voted for LR. She's a good one. Please support her. Thanks.

Thanks I saw her on a "to be convinced list" early in the vote counting and didn't do my due diligence to verify how she voted. I very much appreciate the correction and good news!!

Killing Americorpd and getting Medicaid are horrible decisions, but rest assured that even if Elon and DOGE weren't wreaking havoc that both of these decisions come straight from Project 2025.

It's amusing that the sociopaths like Musk and Trump who all think they are controlling someone else are being controlled by other sociopaths. Blinders. That's what money buys.

Trump does know he must abide the Constitution, and he took an oath to do so twice. He cannot accept his court-proven failures to honor the Constitution. So he “Don’t know!” Trump lies. We know that is true. He is taking this country into financial ruin as he steals left and right. We watch him do it. We can stop some of the carnage with a sound, balanced budget, and a law that nixes deficit spending. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/where-ya-going-dems?r=3m1bs

Is there someone or some organization that is following in detail all the Executive Orders? I think it would be very useful to do this. Especially analyzing each and showing how they are not laws and how Trump is trying to use them as though they are laws. Mr. Eisen if this isn’t being done can you do this?

Lots of trackers out there. Most seem to be by law firms. I thought NYT had one too but can't confirm that.

The orange felon gave a commencement address at the University of Alabama on May 1 and it was absolutely revolting. His typical damn political rally. I am surprised the school of journalism and communications would even want him to speak. Kaitlin Collins of CNN is from Prattville Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama. She can ask some tough questions of our politicians especially Tommy Tuberville. It’s rather humorous when they get up in arms over her questions since she’s somewhat conservative working at CNN.

In US News and World Report, Alabama ranks 44th (out of 50) in education. Maybe, it's an indication that they don't teach critical thinking skills.

Actually it is not entirely. A superintendent in the northwestern part of the state was shown the door after he had very successfully worked with a large Hispanic population of students and that had successfully increased parental involvement and significant academic achievement. This was because this administrator had made the area very welcoming to this population by improving and increasing the communications with the parents of the students. Memos were written in both Spanish and English. The locals were very angry about this because their community was undergoing rapid changes and they were very uncomfortable with it. These students made strides because of the help they got. This is what happens when you have mixed populations. Extreme disparities in achievement levels is where you land on the rankings. We have many high achieving schools in the affluent districts and others that barely have the basics where poverty is overwhelming. Those rankings are meaningless. Although there has been a few national merit scholars in a few of our middle class schools. If we are 44th at this point then that is actually an improvement over 47th from several years ago.

Thanks so much for an insight that's new to me. I appreciate the clarity I get from commenters all the time.

Michelle, Thanks for explaining! And, I apologize for making an assumption, when I know very little about Alabama. That is a real shame about the superintendent. Usually that's what one usually hopes a superintendent will do: increase parental involvement and academic achievement.

So, I found the story about Superintendent Health Grimes, from August 6, 2024, and found it really interesting. https://hechingerreport.org/a-superintendent-made-big-gains-with-english-learners-his-success-may-have-been-his-downfall/

I also read the November 4, 2024 story in AL.com: "Immigration brings complex changes to Alabama towns, schools, data shows."

There's no way for an outsider to understand all of this, but thanks for letting me know. It piqued my interest, and provided a perspective I never would have thought about.

I saw last night that Paramount may pay Trump $20M. An article suggesting they are as spineless as the Washington post, and look how many subscribers they lost, could be timely.

When Hollywood sells out, I turn to my personal library of books that I can read over and over. First Marvel, and now this.
