We are all under a blitzkrieg, not just a data breach. Multiple violations of law, multiple attacks on decency, multiple subversions. The data breach is enormously important, but so is the effort underway to sack literally 6,000 FBI field agents --- so pissed off is our nasty, vehement, tiny little Felon-in-Chief that a legitimate investigation was actually launched against him by these agents, doing their jobs. Then there is the destruction of USAID --- people will die as a result of this, not if but when. Relationships around the world have been shattered, allies shunned, contracts violated. Then there is Operation PissyPants --- the simultaneous War Against Avocados, Maple Syrup, the threatened annexation of Greenland, the Reconquista of Panama. So many idiotic escapades, so little focus...
If I were an enemy of the United States, I would be thinking that now would be a good time for some kind of devastating strike, while the iron is not just hot but shattered, its pieces flying all over the place. This country is in greater danger now than it was on December 6, 1941, with only ourselves to blame.
Amen. At what point of destruction, not only of our democracy, but of the world order, do we begin thinking of the need for a military coup here in order to take down the criminals in charge and restore the rule of law before it's too late?
Cobin, reporters have been "told" FElon Musk is a 'Special Government Employee" if I have his official Job Title correct. Also, Musk has a desk & email address in the White House.
April fool!
Make that April 1, 2025 when the fool Musk must file financial disclosures.
There is no procedural 'Law & Motion' reason to wait any further to obtain a restraining order based on the admissible evidence of Musk's bad & ultra vires acts (plural). Standing is the problematic issue.
"Then there is the destruction of USAID --- people will die as a result of this..."
I for one am simply curious as to whom and where all the money is going. By all means, have them open their books for an audit. If it's going for actual humanitarian aid, that's fine. If it's going to "undisclosed individuals" or things like DEI-related anything, it's time to pull the plug. Besides, with all this attention, the CIA will have to put their covert funds somewhere else and relocate their personnel.
Gee Margaret, are you trying to be ageist, racist and sexist all at the same time? Please elaborate why any of those traits would have anything to do with my post above.
Yeah, transparency...what a concept to expect that government at all levels should be held accountable to the people that elected them. Congress can't even get their act together long enough to pass an actual budget.
I am concerned that you are not reporting on the DOGE people gaining access to the Treasury files and computers. They have control of personal information of many people, and the power to determine payments from the US government - who will be paid and who won’t. This is very dangerous for all of us.
There must be some criminal law forbidding non citizen federal volunteer and his crew from "hacking" confidential files Treasury information. Something citizens can do?
On second thought, he's being "authorized" by his boss, A thirty seven time Felon.
There is, but who is going to enforce it. Not Trump's all-loyalist FBI. Not Trump's all-loyalist DOJ. The courts can order injunctions, but are the Musk-Trump coup agents going to care?
I'm concerned as well what's happened at the Treasury. And this weekend, Musk attempted to get into the SKIF. Enough already. Protest, on behalf of all members of our Military who fought for our freedoms; recognize and honor the men and women who traded their lives, for our freedom. Letting trump and cult destroy this amazing Country is wrong and unforgivable, and illegal. The rich do not belong in any position of influence in our Government. They gained their wealth on the back of others, not because of their own brilliance (or lack thereof).
Stop mentioning Trump and Musk. The only way out of this mess is to blame Republicans, from the corner hairdresser to the Speaker. Only Republicans can stop this madness. They have to feel the pain of what's happening. It will only stop when Republicans become so embarrassed or ashamed or hurt that they tell their leadership to act like Americans for a change. Every time you blame Trump and Musk, you let every other Republican off the hook. Stop it.
Here's a laugh for you. A Trump voter acquaintance has a child with a disability. She thought that attacking DEI was only meant for Black and Brown people, as if that's somehow acceptable. She didn't get that DEI also meant people with disabilities. Now she's having to fight for services for her child.
Republicans are committing thousands of crimes every day in Washington, and these are their victims.
Wait til your acquaintance friend, and all the other women who supported Trump, find out that - surprise! - it's white women who've benefited the most from DEI initiatives, by far. Project 2025 are well aware of this; it's part of the war on women to dismantle DEI, just as the Dobbs decision was. They worked hard over the years to make it sound to ordinary Americans like it was unfair advantages for black and brown people.
I want to agree with you, but "when Republicans become so embarrassed or ashamed or hurt" might be Never. They've already shown themselves spineless and shameless. MAYBE "hurt" could work, if it means "their voters quit voting for them".
I think the tariff/consumer tax is a sideshow to distract everyone while Trump and Elon Musk take over the Justice Department, the FBI, and transfer financial controls to the White House. Will normal legal redress be fast enough to overtake this blitzkrieg?
I agree with this perspective. I think the Mexico and Canada tariff talk is a Trump performance to distract us. We'll see another performance close to March 1. Meantime, the undermining of our institutions will go on; hopefully something gets to court quickly.
The most powerful thing Americans can do, en masse, is quit buying many products. Just shut it down, say, at least a couple of months. When you see the results, you feel empowered again. If you don’t need it, don’t buy it. We are the largest consumer population in the world - that is power!
Canadians are indeed angry, disturbed and threatened by Donald Trump’s attack on Canadians through initiating a trade war and threatening our sovereignty using the guise of border security and drug trafficking (less than 1 % of fentanyl entering the US comes from Canada). Severe damage has been done to the relationship and trust between the United States and Canada, the United States’ neighbour and best ally! No one here wants to become part of the US and no one here wants to participate in season 2 of “Survivor America”.
Tariffs and Immigration are hot button issues to take our attention away while Musk and minions take over the Treasury Dept. That is as scary as the takeover of the DOJ and FBI! Why no mention of that?
I have a suggestion about Trump's tariff threats that would wake everyone up. Imagine this;
Trump: "Sheinbaum, if you don't do what I feel necessary to protect my border, I will impose a 25% tariff on all Mexican imports. I may use US Military if needed."
Sheinbaum: "Mr. President, we recognize that our border is long and difficult to manage, and we appreciate your concern. After careful consideration, we have decided that the date of your tariff will also be the date we shut down the border between our two great countries. We recognize the immense consequences of that action but, in order to please you, we will close all border crossing points for travel and commerce and arrest all persons illegally from the US. We will deploy our military to assist in this effort.
We understand your concerns, Mr. President, as you speak for all Americans. Our greatest desire is to have friendly and beneficial relations with our friends and family, not to mention our largest trade partner.
The border will remain closed until we can reach a mutually agreeable solution to this great problem. Should the border closure not sufficiently effect positive change in our national interests, we will consider closing all airports and sea terminals to US carriers in order to get to the heart of this problem between our nations, and to effect perfect solutions as you have indicated only you are able to solve. We welcome your perfect solution as it is in our best interests to Make America Great Again. Thank you and good night. We'll keep in touch, yes?
Thank you, George Conway. Your apology is accepted, but the unfortunate series of one stupid thing after another that led to your apology still means I am becoming a staunch supporter and advocate even, for Canadians to buy Canadian and to diversify our trading relationships in short order. Canada loves Americans - but we don't love this 'mis-info-fiction' we are hearing and reading from Trump and I believe we feel badly for all the Americans who voted against their own better interests in November 2016 and 2024. If we become the 51st state, I am moving to Scotland. Seriously - it will cost me a fortune and every dollar will be well spent.
Is anyone drawing attention to the strong parallels, including appointments, between the actions of the Trump administration and the Nazi takeover in 1933. The playbook seems the same. Including the Führerprinzip, and the appointees eerily resemble Hitler’s minions. Trump is not Hitler, but he looks like the American version, including the narcissistic sociopathy.
It looks to me that Trump caved to Mexico and Canada -- they have him by the short economic short hairs; so, they did performative actions to appease the baby
Thank you George. I wanted to thank Canada. I looked into moving there but I am retired. They want workers to establish work history and procure citizenship and its generous benefits. Looks like you could buy your way in and that is fine with me. Oh Canada! Thank you. We need everyone to stand up against the orange Mussolini. Wish it were warmer, but hey, soon it will be!
Much of the media and most in the Democratic party are engaging in examining each and every tree rather than the totalitarian forest. Instead of bouncing from one Trump initiative to another as if we are on a perpetual motion trampoline, they should be concentrating on shouting from the roof tops that we are turning into an oligarchical police state and that means no mincing of words. And, the Democrats in particular need to anoint someone charismatic to speak for them and those who want to defend freedom; taking group potshots at Trump and the Republicans on the Capitol steps or guest appearing on MSNBC is not going to work.
I hate to tell you this, but firing squads are the response to us sticking up for our rights. When is the last time a march or rally did anything? All we have are our votes and responsible representation. We are sitting ducks, and the only people with any agency to deal with attempts to shutter agencies and other illegal acts are ... holding sit-ins on the steps there.
I did my duty and voted against the criminal and encouraged others to do the same. Now it's on Congress and the shaky courts to stop the madness.
Please please cover the massive musk data breach implications
We are all under a blitzkrieg, not just a data breach. Multiple violations of law, multiple attacks on decency, multiple subversions. I honestly think the military removing these people is our best hope. Just don’t know if we have a loyal military anymore, either.
That's been in the back of my mind as well. Especially with Captain Alkie in command.
😆

Gee Margaret, are you trying to be ageist, racist and sexist all at the same time? Please elaborate why any of those traits would have anything to do with my post above.

WE CAN WIN THIS WAR on our country!
I love when I read the word CORRUPTION. Jen stayed away from it at the WAPO and you hardly ever see it at the NYT - good ole Pat Healy squashes it.
Can someone find out where the CORRUPTION related to Rudy found the money to rescue him?
Thank you, George Conway.

Don't forget the pardons for the 1500 J6 thugs. They are Trump's version of Hitler's "Brown Shirts."

So many words so many words blah blah blah when the heck do we hit the streets in the millions? Give me a time and place

Maybe we could storm the White House and call it a "tour."
