I hope he is given a larger, broader stage to continue to share his thoughts. His is an important voice, especially in the US and where, and how, it is right now. (And, as an aside, I would love to see Pope Leo XIV as his guest on Thursday - what a blessing that would be!)

"The end of 'The Late Show' is a loss for anyone who values thoughtful conversations about faith, spirituality, and belief"

Indeed, this, in combination with his humanity, in large part, what makes Colbert so important. He uses his plentiful basket of skills as an entertainer, his curiosity and search for both knowledge and the truth to communicate with both his guests and his audience. There have been many great comedians and humorists in history; Colbert is carrying on that tradition from Will Rogers who appeared nightly on network radio and was syndicated in newspapers nearly a century ago, and whose commentaries can be applied directly to the politics of today! I consider both among the greatest of Americans.

Wonderful tribute to the brilliance of Stephen. I am so hoping he will create a new show on Substack or his own platform as his role in the public discourse is so very important to us keeping our sense of humor and fearlessness in this deeply discouraging time.

When one door closes, another one opens. Colbert has many opportunities to spread his views on other forms of communication. In fact, he will be freer to use his wit. While Paramount will lose out, financially. Platforms are changing in different venues to reach the audience. One thing I can say about Trump negative mannerism towards democracy, forces many to think outside the box.

As if we needed another reminder that Trump destroys everything we love.

Colbert is the end of the intellectual, thoughtful, talk show host. It is our loss I am saddened by, as I am positive that Stephen, as brilliant as he is, will find another avenue to express his individual slant on life, politics, religion, and such. We can only hope that we will be able to share in some of this. Keep up the good fight Stephen.

"May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind always be at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

and rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

May good luck be with you Wherever you go, and your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.

May your days be many and your troubles be few, May all God’s blessings descend upon you, May peace be within you, May your heart be strong, May you find what you’re seeking wherever you roam.

May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been

the foresight to know where you’re going

and the insight to know when you’re going too far."

Ricky Gervais has a more tenable position. Either the Universe always existed or it happened from nothing makes far more sense than there was this "phantom" specifically powerful even more complex creator that either always existed or happened from nothing ... But yes, the loss of Stephen Colbert will be one more nail in the coffin of CBS.

So sad. It is hard to maintain faith when such tragedies stack up. I have never heard these things but I appreciate your historical perspective. Thank you.

My goodness, how he will be missed every night. Here’s hoping he will continue to find ways to use his voice, as it is needed more than ever now.

I watched Colbert primarily for the political commentary. Had no idea religion was important.

Me either Irena! I am Catholic and never really thought his religious comments were remarkable, maybe because he shared so easily and naturally.

Stephen Colbert is a gift! He should never be silenced, and I don't think he ever will.

Thank you for your essay about the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He is funny and insightful and I am going to miss seeing his show on line the next day!

I hope he does something meaningful going forward that he would share with us!!
