Trump is an idiot much like the authoritarians of the past. If we hadn’t had women like Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin and Mae Jemison to name a few we’d be light years behind on scientific discoveries than where we’re at now. What other progress is he hindering?
He fired most of the women in leadership positions at the NIH, removed most of the women and non-white men from the research and grant advisory boards, and cut research funding disproportionately to women than to men. He also banned the use of the words "women" and "female" in any grant. It's a bizarre effort to pretend that women and non-white people don't exist.
Thank you for the excellent article on the Trump administration focus on DEI. It is certainly true that Trump’s focus has destroyed academic programs, censored museum and gallery programs and exhibitions, and cultural events.
Now, there are the new problems about the proposed American Women’s History Museum.
I very much appreciate when journalists include the failure of Dems to care for the disenfranchised which has been true, to a large extent, for more than decades; rather for more than a century. We will not fix the problems until we look fully and honestly at each problem in its fullness. All elected persons and candidates need to walk the wall, not just learn how to talk "right" (or left??). Dems at the national level have been quite effective at making a rainbow amongst the wealthy, but don't seem to recognize that we need, instead, to eliminate poverty and the instances of working poor; to make sure all workers make a living wage, and, pertinent to medical care for women, that all girls and women, not just those of privilege, are given the support needed to enter medicine, and then have jobs that tend to women's health.
