I was born in this country, have good communication skills, and I can barely understand the convoluted immigration laws, which as I am able to understand them, no one could meet, and I mean no one. How in the hell can many of these folks from other countries be expected to become citizens with these incomprehensible, antiquated laws? Change them, for God's sakes!
Sadly, Republicans have been resisting sane immigration reform with a clear path to citizenship for decades. I remember when George Bush did something good and proposed this in 2005 after his reelection. Right-wingers melted down, calling him a "closet Democrat" and worse. I recall a few years after that there was bipartisan legislation — truly bipartisan, not just a handful from the other side. One of the leaders was Marco Rubio. But when he ran for president in 2016 and it became clear that Trump was gaining traction with a campaign based almost entirely on demonizing immigrants (and anyone else "different") Rubio caved and said supporting that legislation was a mistake. No, it wasn't. It was one of his best moments. Caving to Trump was his worst.
One more indication about what a weak, spineless little person he is. He'll never be a viable GOP candidate for president. MAGA voters like bluster, not meekness.
If you want to ixu immigration you need a highly cooperative congress. you won't have this until Trump is taken down. Make them afraid by releasing the Epstein files. They will abandon Trump like the sinking titanic as it is shown his actual involvement. Once that occurs, you will have Trump's impeachment and removal from office. Then Congress may grow a set of balls.
I have a modest proposal. Instead of deporting undocumented immigrants, let's deport all of ICE. Our communities will be safer, our economy will improve, and if we can just add Steven Miller in the process, we'll increase the average moral IQ of the country by several percentage points.
Unless ICE deportees are actually non-Americans, that is a non-starter. They all belong as active inmates first as law-violators, then as mentally deranged people who need help in institutions. Good luck with that.

It was to deport the entire staff of ICE and to include Steven Miller in the group. Of course this is not only impractical but also illegal. The "modest proposal" in my opening sentence was a reference to Jonathan Swift's much more famous essay, "A Modest Proposal," though his was much better written than mine. To your point about criminality and mental illness: by far the majority of detainees would be better treated by providing them with a path to either citizenship or legal residency in the U.S. Immigrants are a vital part of our economy. If you like eating, you should be happy that so many Mexicans, for example, are working in our fields.Statistically, immigrants have been shown to be less likely than citizens to commit crimes including violent crimes, despite the cherry-picking that Trump and his cronies love to do. Yes, at least some murders are committed by immigrants. Also, many murders are committed by citizens. On the whole, I'd rather take my chances with an immigrant, whether documented or not.
