With a decades-long career in graphic design, I also wrote for an insurance company and created style guides for the logos I designed. Both required precise, succinct sentence structure, with the latter being essentially a legal document.
With that being said, I don’t trust AI to do what I can myself.
Is this artificially revised text, attempting to deceive people into stating the opposite of their true intentions, grounds for legal action against Neighbors for Strong Communities for fraudulently attempting to influence the outcome of a lawsuit?
And for this cr*p we are expected to give up water, clean air, acres of meadow or farmland for data centers? I don't think AI is ready for prime time, as they used to say.
Yes, & keep in mind all the AI’s in common use today don’t produce their results through understanding, thought, & reasoning, as humans do. Only the *results* resemble intelligence; the *process* to achieve those results is nothing like human thought. In fact, they’re just text processors, generating output through algorithms that assemble likely word sequences. It’s in the name: Large *Language* Model. They’re literally a very, very sophisticated version of autocorrect. They definitely have constructive uses, but an equally large capacity for misuse.
I'm glad that I'm retired from teaching, so that I do not have to see essays written by students that use AI. Whenever I read AI generated work, it always sounds off to me, like the computer voices in an old Star Trek episode.
At this point, the tech boys are writing the ads for the majority who thinks their AI projects and tech farms should be dropped into the Marianas Trench, never to be seen again. They seem to be incapable of honesty, integrity or commitment to basic human standards of decency.
It isn't just AI data centers that are problematic, it is AI itself and the author's experience shows one aspect of the danger of AI. Another is that It seems like many people, especially those who are producing AI, want people to believe it is an all-knowing truth teller. AI is biased & often spews lies. It is easy to criticize & punish humans for lying and creating problems but how are you going to stop, counter or punish AI?
Learning about how to control AI is not going to happen in a week or a decade. We are only beginning to learn about the power AI imparts.
Just think. AI is already under almost complete control of most everything I daily do. Just think of the chaos that would result in this country if AI in the U.S. suddenly were turned off!!
I am getting sick and tired of having to go to my e mail to fetch a number to prove I am a subscriber to the Contrarian. I will not be going back to my e-mail to prove my subscription again.
Incredible, but not surprising. That's exactly why i do not trust AI and never will.
Never let AI rewrite anything for you and send it unread to make sure it says EXACTLY what you mean it to say.

I'll go a step further and say I don't trust AI to do anything at all. If I can't do it myself I want an actual human to.

It's bad enough with auto-correct interfering with my writing. A-I is 50 times worse.
the problem with auto correct is how idiotic the corrections are - it takes more time to correct the auto correct....
