That's all well and good but no complacency - GET OUT AND VOTE. Even if all the polls and all the early voting show a Japanese woodcut level blue wave, VOTE and make sure your family and friends vote, too.

i agree wholeheartedly! I early voted by mail and tracked and my vote has been counted, but others here in, yes, Florida, early voted, thankfully - and had to redo for several different reasons, including PO Box address not accepted, signature questioned. These citizens rallied, re-did and got their votes in and counted, but this is why we're EARLY VOTING AND, as you say, supporting our neighbors, colleagues, friends and family to do the same!!

For me it's less supporting and more threatening my nephews and nieces but thank you and keep it up!

"[Trumpsters] have ensconced themselves in an echo chamber, missing signs that their message is badly misfiring and that their actions are boomeranging."

The sweetest of ironies is that Trump himself rests peacefully in the cradle of Natalie Harp & co., having been lullabied by all the crooning sycophants that he is the best, the most loved, the most powerful man EVER and there's nothing to worry about, just go play golf tomorrow....

Hopefully he gets a facefull of cold water on November 4.

I would recommend a fluid much warmer and more pungent than cold water, but I share your hopes.

“… a Japanese woodcut blue wave…” conjures something in my mind. Something wonderful. I had Claude create an image…

I agree completely. Get out the vote. The Dems dont want to "pill defeat out of the jaws of victory" as, accordikng to N{T, they have in prior years by becoming complacent.

Trump & Co: Turning Fed agencies into Trumpian propaganda platforms while running a RICO enterprise that enthusiastically coordinates with war criminals & dictators while transferring wealth to the wealthiest & cutting funds for science research & the neediest among us.

Trump &. Co projection of & gaslighting with their grift fraud & serial criminality is endless.

#VoteBlue!

talk about propaganda! I got a notice yesterday from Social Security touting Trump's (and yes it is called Trump accounts" claiming to have the biggest tax relief for seniors and also an account for every US child. But a close reading of it simply says these are accounts that can be used to dump money already given to children and it's got his name on it. Big brother !

AmericanHistoryGeek's avatar

Me too! Disgusting use of our time and money to shill for the grifter. Vote Blue to save Social Security from this bs!

Yet more deceptive propaganda lies from the donnie cabal.

The creators will have to find more ways to hide the sources of delivery. When we see where the propaganda comes from, it's easier to ignore and delete.

I actually deleted without reading it this morning. Insult to injury!

The antidote is Trump/Putin. None dare call him Krasnov.

E.G. my MAGAt senator, Florida Senator Rick Scott criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin following a wave of Trump administration decisions to lift and waive economic sanctions on Russian diesel fuel.

Speaking out against the moves, Senator Rick Scott publicly rebuked the administration's policy shift, stating, “I think it's clear Russia is the aggressor, and we've got to do everything we can to put economic pressure on Russia”. This follows an op-ed Scott co-published outlining threats from a hostile "authoritarian alliance" led by China and Russia, as well as foreign visits where he called for a stronger NATO alliance to deter threats from Putin.

Concurrently, diplomatic developments have accelerated on the world stage: Didn't hear Republican candidates Ashley Moody and Byron Donalds taking on Trump.

Gotta love anyone who uses “inured” fluidly and powerfully. But then, Jennifer Rubin is the reason I cancelled my Post subscription and became an early subscriber for The Contrarian—a decision I have approved of every day since.

First a thank you to the contrarian for using a real time photo of DJT because it’s important everyone see his physical appearance not flattering stock photos of a younger more robust person.

Second thanks to you Jen for another great article. I actually think Meta’s time is up right along with using the Musk’s Starlink. We need to remove these men and their creations out of our world for good. Meta has never been able to demonstrate a consistent ethical commitment to setting realistic and reasonable guidelines for users, I believe mainly because they are not committed to democracy on any level. Musk…he has been a loss and is now exposed as the phony he is and always was, just like his buddy Peter Thiel. None of these guys should be anywhere near government programs

exceptionally well written and to the point. Brava Jen.

Meta's throttling of service during the No Kings demonstrations should be be a target of legal action by Democracy Defenders.

I will not breathe easier until the new Congress is fully seated in January. Even if we win massively on November 3rd, the danger only increases that shenanigans will ensue to prevent the new Congress from being sworn in.

Yes! No COMPLACENCY! The midterm vote that will, as Steve Schmift says, " fully repudiate maga", is but the FIRST step in a long march to reclaim government Of the People, By the People, and For the People. We will have to strengthen the often spongey backbones of too many dems drinking from the same polluted corporate wells. So...recovering our sanity and reimagining democractic government and what citizenship means is,will be, and must continue to be the task for all of us.

The definition of a stupid person is one who surrounds himself with sycophants and incompetents so much so that he can't even accomplish his wayward goals. Trump has finally achieved a Number 1. Worst President in the history of the United States.

Steve 218's avatar

Professor Laurence J. Peter (of the Peter Principle) would say that Trump has risen to his level of incompetence. He is the worst US president to date. Let there be no others.

Michelle Jordan's avatar

“MAGA hubris fuels the blue wave”. You bet it does! People are fed up with being dehumanized and it’s going to be a rude awakening for many in the GOP. After Donald Trump, the Republican Party will never be the same again. They will have to start over and completely rebuild and rebrand if they ever have any chance of winning again. The blue wave is coming to a state near you even if it washes out purple. There still may be a wild card or two in the stack yet!

There has been mention on social about voters (including Dolly Parton's sister) having her vote change from D to R inside the voting booth. Is this happening to your knowledge?

Leigh Horne's avatar

You wrote: "From the outrage engendered by taxpayer-funded self-promotional ads to the outcry over Kimberly Guilfoyle’s penny ante graft to the massive self-aggrandizing building projects and crypto-scams, Trump has fed the very narrative that helped dislodge Viktor Orbán in Hungary." Yes. And this tells us a lot about the neediness and bottomless greediness of men who would be 'kings.' To want more and more and more is to be stuck in a bottomless pit of confusion and angst.

A PATH TO PREVENT THE REPUBLICANS FROM STEALING THE NOVEMBER 3RD ELECTIONS

WE CAN BEAT THEM AT THEIR OWN GAME

We know from a whistle-blower that the Republicans have devised a scheme to hang on to their majorities in both Houses of Congress after the November 3rd elections by refusing to swear in elected Democrats against whom election fraud accusations have been made, which will most likely be specious. Yesterday, the Republicans just increased the prospects of more accusations against duly elected Democrats by offering $25 million dollars in rewards to the accusers. It is not beyond comprehension that the very Republicans behind this scheme may be fabricating or fomenting such allegations.

However, given the opportunity for sleaze with hundreds of millions of dollars from billionnaire donors and from some very shady contributors, such practices by Republicans may be ripe for abuse and fraud.

If the Republicans refuse to swear in elected Democrats accused of fraud, they must similarly refuse to swear in elected Republicans accused of fraud. Their failure or refusal to do so would immediately expose their scheme as a scam to prevent the Democrats from gaining their rightful majorities in each House.

The Democrats will need a net gain of 4 additional seats in each House to secure majorities.

Therefore, if the Democrats duly win their elections in each House of Congress by at least 4 and match or exceed the Republican accusations that would be subject to refusals to swear them in pending investigations, those remaining would enable the Democrats to still achieve their majorities in each House after all.

The Republicans have obviously failed to recognize that, as the saying goes, two can play the same game.

Annie D Stratton's avatar

Do we know that? I have heard of no whistle-blower- can you provide more information? I do know that Judge Michael Luddig (fifteen years on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; told VP Pence he needed to confirm Biden) wrote an opinion piece in which he laid out a scenario in which that could happen. Most experts on Congressional operations disagreed with his take, and pointed out the many safeguards that are in place.

I do agree that the more Democrats we elect, and the wider the spread, the less likely it will be that republicans will be able to effectively challenge the results. They can try, but it would be a waste or their money and our time.

I don't recall the original article that I read on this, but this issue is covered in the following linked article to the New York Times follow-up: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/us/politics/democrats-republicans-congress-midterm-elections.html
