I am so in awe of those very manly white men who have to wear masks to hide their masculinity in order to take down especially women and children.

(Yes, I am a very sarcastic person.)

Personally, I just think they should all wear burkas. It would be much more appealing.

Trump and Noem are behaving like children bent on a vengeance mission. Let's see them do the same in Little Rock, Dallas, Miami, Columbus, Mobile, or Kansas City.

Thank you. I’ve never been to Los Angeles, though I grew up in the southwest so I’m familiar with the Spanish colonialist history. I read this thinking about Chicago. The Latino population here is now larger than the Black population and Latino leadership is on the rise, its development particularly spurred on by Trump starting in 2016. I live in the area of the city where this leadership development is underway. These leaders are young and impressive, and they work together across levels of government, from the city to the county to the state to the federal level. They’ve collectively been anticipating moments like this one. I’m sure they don’t see a divide between Los Angeles and Chicago other than that Trump-Miller targeted Los Angeles first. Maybe in today’s Chicago protests we will see the demographics of BOTH the April 5 march (older white people like myself) and May 1 march (workers, immigrants, people of color).

One of the problems with MSM is that they err in thinking the president is in the driver’s seat. It seems they can’t imagine otherwise. So all their reporting reflects that premise. We’re like insignificant ants to them. Who is Trump going to blame when the ants come out in force? I wonder if Miller going to go down after this weekend like Musk did after the Wisconsin Supreme Court election?

So many of us have had a love-hate relationship with L.A. Your essay revived some buried memories of the '70s, also good and bad. We all need this knowledge.
