We all have to stand and make noise. Loud and clear.

No Kings

No Dictators

No Child Rapists and convicted felons making decisions for Our Country

However you can, make good trouble , look out for your neighbors , educate your children.

And boycott advertisers on these stations and let them know why. Money talks and bullshit walks .

W. Kamau Bell is correct. Wake up White America. Trump is turning the US into a version of Russia. The oligarchs are useful to him now. But once he fully consolidates power, American oligarchs will experience the same fate as the Russian oligarchs.

Washington Post, LA Times, CBS, ABC/Disney, law firms, universities all caving. What do they think this is...North Korea?

The people who have to grow spines (and consciences) are the Republicans in elected office - all of them. Those appointed by the short-fingered vulgarian were chosen for their inability to have either of those things, even by transplant.

The corporations will only change if their bottom line is affected, and I can't see Disney's bottom line being affected very much at all. Sinclair is a disease-ridden swamp. And the vulgarian wants all media to worship at his feet, as indeed, he expects from all people everywhere.

With Kimmel and Colbert gone, a main source of entertainment, humor, and yes, news is gone from broadcast televisionland. It's one more reason not to turn it on.

I rarely do, and haven't since the "mainstream media" helped put the short-fingered vulgarian in the White House at the time of his first infestation.

I'm still reasonably faithful to PBS News Hour and Washington Week in Review, and spend more time on BBC world service and NK news.

I certainly will cancel all Disney related television now so sad to see them all bend a knee to such a classless ignorant white loser 47 is nothing but a disgrace to his country ! Narcissism lives on at the golden ( formerly Oval Office) room sad sad sad!

Cancelled our Disney subscription today. We haven't had any broadcast television for years. Now that all the networks want to be like Faux, why bother? I'm not surprised by the absolute cowardice. The decisions by the CEO's make it crystal clear that money comes before anything else. Screw the public and any responsibitlities using the public airways used to require. It's selfish MAGGOTS all the way. Just what do they think the end game is going to be when there's no one to watch, no one to buy, no one to care if they all die ignoble deaths for want of an audience.

Never jumped on that bandwagon in the first place, and now, glad of it.

Boycott all advertisers of Disney/ABC , Boycott all media sources that suck up. ABC already paid 16 million not Trump is telling them what to say and telecast. Go Figure. After Trump had Steven Cobert done in he said Jimmy Kimmel was next. I suppose Brendan Carr got the message and wanted to get into the arms of his illustrious leader , he made a move. "We can do it the easy way or the hard way" So intimidating and Disney/ABC just folded up into the fetal position and wept.

Steve 218's avatar

Well, somebody needs to grow a spine. Really, a herd of somebodies need to do this. The question remains, who's next? The words of Martin Niemöller come to mind. Let's not wait until we hit "and then they came for me, and there was no one left to help".

I leave it to the quote about free expression by Noam Chomsky: “If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all.” Enough said.

Good lord, if President Snowflake and his butt-hurt magas don't like a show, they can change the channel. You know, instead of taking over the media? That's how the rest of us do it. Saves a lot of time.

Steve 218's avatar

No, in their minds, there must be revenge. Free speech has become what they want to say and hear. Anything else is getting silenced with threats and retribution.

I noticed Hollywood has no problem sounding out against Israel.

Good for them. Israel has become the oppressor. Cue the accusations of me being anti-semitic. I'm not. I just don't like watching civilians get bombed).

This opposition would possibly work if there was equal outrage at the sadism, raping and pillaging of Hamas and its desire to win at any cost to their citizens. There was unbelievable disbelief that raping and sadism occurred.

What say you, Hollywood? Hollywood? Bueller? Bueller?

Hundreds of thousands showed up in France for less than this. It's time to impeach and remove this corrupt bunch of Anarch wanna be's. This all about wanting to hide Epstein issues from the so called Christians - that don't love any immigrant, LBGTQ, or black person.

And as Kirk said - blacks are dumb and women should not vote - a lot of hate!

Laura Fraser's avatar

Come on, people. Corporate America will not stand up to save you. YOU have to do it.

Robert Lastick's avatar

Corporate America can be easily seen as a very large part of the problem.

Especially their "what's good for the economy is what is what is good for my pocketbook" obsessive philosophy.

They truly are as blind as bats.

I think we should stop with the “grow a spine “ thing. Companies like Disney and CBS that have caved to Trump fear losing billions if not tens of billions of dollars to the retribution that Trump can wreak. How many people who say “grow a spine” would act differently from the companies and other institutions they criticize if it were their companies and their billions of dollars at stake. Maybe s with Harvard and some law firms a few actors will push back, but we cannot depend on that and on their private calculus of what trade-offs they are willing to make.

What is needed is countervailing pressures that will convince companies, universities, law firms and the like that there are people who have their back and that if they do not resist Trump’s illegal demands. it will cost them in the long run. If, for example, Disney’s lead stars refused to promote Disney products or perform unless Kimmel were reinstated, their stardom might protect them from retaliation when protests from other Disney workers would not unless a general worker’s strike could be made to happen. Concerned citizens might also make a difference but not by dropping Disney’s television offerings or refusing to attend Disney movies. Too many people value too much of what Disney makes available to make a Disney boycott likeoy to succeed.. Rather boycotts should be directed at key Disney advertisers. In. Most cases there are substitutes for products advertised on Disney media when there is no substitute for Disney itself.

Ultimately, and this may never happen, we should be learning that when too much business consolidation exists serious threats can arise, and the antitrust laws provide no reedy because the problem is not combinations to restrain trade- that is a separate issue. Rather it is the leverage that the federal government can have over media companies by threatening to take actions that will harm their non-media business interests. If the Democrats return to power, first they should ensure that they have a friendly Supreme Court majority and then they should proceed to make legal and institutional changes that will make it far more difficult to threaten our freedom and democracy than it has been in the first 7 months of Trump’s term when a complacent Supreme Court refuses to check obvious law violations.

Robert Lastick's avatar

No, Rick. They (corporate America) have sold our country out for profit, for their bottom line.

Rick Lempert's avatar

Then I am right. The problem is not lack of spine. I don’t usually defend corporations or those who run them but at least they have a reason for their actions - they have faced real threats to their well being. Think of all the other people who sold out America for their bottom lines. Begin with the Senators who voted to acquit him when he was impeached and was in no position to threaten them. How about Vance and the many other politicians who condemned Trump and then became his leading sycophants. And how about all those ordinary voters who knew what Trump was and didn’t like him but voted for him because he promised them a better economy and they believed and the many wealthy people who voted for him to secure a tax cut that means they will have more money than they know what to do with when they already have more money than they know what to do with. If shaming corporate leaders would get them to change what they do, it would make sense even if their selling out is a normal human reaction and they are no different from many other people in this respect. But shaming is unlikely to help and detracts from thinking about ways enough pressure can be put on these companies and their leaders to get them to rethink where corporate interests lie. Even critiques might be better received if rather than leading with shaming they led with empathy for the situation corporate leaders are in and emphasized how their apparent short term interests would hurt them in the long run.
