I see a degradation, across every spectrum, of public health as a priority with the elimination of grants, studies, personnel, and help to countries where outbreaks can be contained before they spread. Health and Human Services needs to be renamed. It is no longer healthy nor human.
Yes, I agree that bigger forces of prejudice and power are at play in funding our medical and especially public health institutions. Add to this mess our federal STEM and biomedical research monies being DOGE'd away too. Frankly, I think the AMA is part of the cabal ... and I'm an M.D. trained in this country and practicing x 30yrs.
The spite and racial animosity that underlays everything touched by the Trump administration impoverishes everyone, including its true believers, many of whom are as socially and economically disadvantaged as the people they hate. Their desire to hurt people who don’t look like themselves reminds me of a story about a man who met an angel, who promised to give him anything he desired. “But” the angel said, “whatever I give you, I’ll give your neighbor twice as much of the same thing.” “Then put out my eye” was his response.
Public health is in some regards already sicker. I have been hearing about certain areas in New Jersey that have higher rates of cancer than what is normal. That in itself appears to have an environmental cause or driver. Environmental hygiene is another metric of public health as well as infectious diseases such as Hantavirus, Ebola, and Norovirus. It’s explicitly assinine to defund educational programs in any area of human health and even more so to add a lifetime cap to educational opportunities. The federal government has become not only racist but sadistic.

The cruelty of this administration is obscene. The bias against women and minorities should be criminal. I can’t image how this is okay for anybody.
