Yeah, i guessed the right one, and it isn't just the headline that is shame-worthy. It fails to acknowledge that people's perceptions cannot be separated from their expectations, which can be easily influenced by the rhetoric of politicians like DJT. Only a child believes that whoever was ahead first should have been the winner. Anyone who has lived through election returns knows how unpredictable the outcome is until all the votes are counted, just as anyone who's watched a horse race, or an Olympic race, knows that the winner can always be the one who comes from behind. Are Americans so dull and gullible that if a winning candidate comes from behind, we think there must be fraud? We've been doing this every four years for nearly 250 years! To me, this piece does not hold up to the slightest bit of analysis, and its implication that election returns dynamics must correspond to people's perceptions (i.e. expectations) or there is some real basis for suspecting fraud is both ridiculous and dangerous.

I read the column itself so I knew the answer. Oddly, although WAPO has slid rightwards for the past year or so, the vast majority of its readership remains staunchly liberal, or at least centrist. The MAGA commentariat at WAPO is generally trollish, commenting without any kind of analysis or evidence. It's usually just right-wing sound bytes.

WAPO has even stooped to heavily censoring comments, especially those that criticize Trump. It is now a vanishing shadow of what it once was.

Today's WSJ had the following headline and subheadline: "In Second Term, Bolder Trump Charges Ahead Unchecked. Trump is frequently riffing on authoritarianism and is ignoring caution from his advisers." Bolder? Riffing on authoritarianism? Ignoring caution? What planet do these headline writers live on?

I find that every opinion Jason (and others) write seems to lend credence and normalcy to some of the outright lies that PINO TACO spews every day! I long for the days of when reporters like Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein could shine the light of day on what laws a politician were breaking and ethical senators and representatives would follow up and investigate this behavior. What is going on now in our politics reminds me of a 3 ring circus with a constant clown car of activity. Where are the reporters that ask for evidence of the lies and accusations that Trump and his administration broadcast on a daily basis. Also where are the ethical lawyers like Joseph Welch that ask our senators "Have you no sense of decency?"

This is both awesome and exhausting! 🤣🤣🤣

I don't get the point of this article. We know it's true. We know it influences people. What do we do about it! How do we get corporate media to change their ways. If we don't have a solution, this is just depressing....

This headline quiz is a fun one. Keep it!

It reminds me of the news quiz on NPR's "Wait, wait, don't tell me" show, where people have to choose the true story from among the false ones. And all are equally head-smacking!

Interesting. I didn’t read the piece, but he must not have considered that Trump also wants to do away with voting machines. Wouldn’t that slow down the count?

The chaos is the point. Much easier to cheat when there's chaos.

Willick could have written all three of them.

I'm happy, or maybe unhappy, to say I got it right. It's a little disconcerting that public perceptions are so easily manipulated and skewed. Trump spends so much time 'flooding the zone' with outright lies it is impossible for one person to research each one. Even though most of his lies are so outrageous that common sense should prevail and automatically rule them out, some people are just so overwhelmed they don't know what to believe anymore. It's exhausting. For now, based on his track record, I think it's safe to assume that anything that comes out of his mouth should be considered suspect...depending on the situation he's either flat out lying or projecting his crimes onto someone else to divert attention from his own misdeeds. We need to speak the truth every chance we get; some people will finally get the message.

Rats. I got it wrong. I picked the one about slavery. All 3 were believable WaPo headings and subheadings.

Shucks. Have gotten 1 of 2.

I knew it had to be mail-in voting.
