An important post. You didn't see coverage of Golda Meir or Margaret Thatcher as other than formidable leaders. Women leaders in the United States are always covered by their looks and motherhood, with the exception of Tammy Duckworth who proved her bonafides in combat.

it would be interesting to contrast PM Svyrydenko coverage with say AG Bondi coverage

What I see is a world leader who nominated a qualified person for a very important government post. I sure wish we had such a leader, one who selects qualified personnel because he is a qualified leader.

Well good! This is a strong message about the ridiculous prevalence of Sexism. Good for The Contrarian. Women, brilliant, emotionally strong, highly competent and highly educated, put up with this discrimination all the time. I am glad to see this competent woman receiving an office she deserves. Let's hope the rest of the sexist world learns to treat her with respect rather than primitive, stupid and damaging sexism. Attitudes are slow to change.

Images like these can certainly deceive. A woman who has more than a secondary role in government or business should be depicted as such. No need to mislead.

Patronizing powerful woman has happened since Trump’s second term. Many have been removed and replaced by men. Woman have to stand up for one another to stop misogyny.

Another positive for Ukraine and a good choice by Zelenskyy. Here's a link to Svyrydenko's wikipedia article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yulia_Svyrydenko

for those interested in her career and not only her place in Ms. Cohen's war on visual sexism, as important as that is.

Thanks for your reply! It makes me cringe, though. Oh, to be a sociopath playing games with others' lives. Homo sapiens refuses to grow up. Did I say "sapiens"? Nothing sapient about us. The Earth is making us "surplus to requirements". In other news, people are 3 million years old but really are still apes with less hair.

Has she proved her qualifications for decision making office by shooting a dog?

Never trust a guy who works for a wannabe dictator and is named Bessent.

Super ti be reminded of how women are portrayed as lesser and less capable.

Realizing the power of the picture, I have seen lots more unflattering photos of Trump lately.

Many suggesting him to be the malevolent, boorish clown that his actions confirm.

Thank you for discussing this topic, which I never thought about before. My mind immediately jumped to how one positions one’s self relative to the computer camera.

It seems the new prime minister is a force to be reckoned with and a great choice for women, a fine corrective for our MAGA woman-haters, 99% of whom appear to be slovenly, tattooed, fat-bellied, inarticulate, and hapless hysterics (if photos can be believed). Keep up the good work!

Usually the disparagement stops when you hand the source their head.
