Yes — It’s tragic that we’re being schooled in real time on the horrific civic and emotional responses of our Nation in the 1920’s. I’d believed we were beyond this — and perhaps most of us are: but there’s a loud subset that accepts no accountability for the ICE actions; for the murders of people clinging to their boats after being attacked by our country; for the withholding of approved funds in countries needing food and medical supplies; for murdering people after calls for help with mental health issues; for robbing the coffers of money designated for health care and medical research, for trying to dismantle public schools and deny their successes; for not releasing the Epstein files and any information related to it; and for denying the rights and privileges of all people — including THE VOTE.
It’s hard to ‘like’ this but it cannot be repeated often enough. There is no way these people were not murdered, and that “police” in those areas are happy to collaborate. This makes me sick—again. I’m 76 and lived through the Civil Rights Movement. I made the mistake of thinking things were better. Well, maybe in some ways, but this hideous hatred is still there. I am sick that this Facist regime has given them permission 👹
And who could possibly be surprised when looking at the fascist, racist, sexist (and every other ...ist one can think of) regime supposedly leading this country.
Another musical connection is this: the first line of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" is "They're selling postcards of the hanging." According to Wikipedia, Dylan was born in Duluth, and grew up in Hibbing, 60 miles (97 km) northwest of Duluth. His father, Abram Zimmerman, was nine years old in June 1920 and lived two blocks from the site of the lynchings."
As an individual who grew up and listened to the Bob Dylan Desire album many times as a teenager,. The song Hurricane always stuck with me. It proved to me that the white establishment would not hesitate to stick it to any successful black American in this country. Funny how they would chide black Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. This proves that was all lip service, because when a person of color did, the man would sick it to them anyway they could!
The idea of lynchings is so nauseating that it's hard to comprehend. There is a sickness in our species. There are times when I'm ashamed to be a human.

When I was president of our flight attendant's union, our attorney, Stephen Reinhardt, later a ninth circuit court judge, was advocating for a federal anti-lynching law. This was in the 1970s!
