I could see the argument to not add fuel to the fire but the MAGA troglodytes are not particularly perceptive...or smart. It's possible they will assume that the artist is on Trump's side. It's also possible that some of us liberal Dems will complain that they aren't fighting back. The artist can be in a no-win situation. However, I believe that fighting back is the correct action because it brings attention to the low-class nature of this administration, which their even stupider followup responses further confirm. And I believe people take notice of this.

I respect any artist, male or female, who steps up to defend their work. It's THEIRS and they have a right to say how it can be used. They can sell the rights if they want to, and let politicians use their music even if they don't like the candidate if they want to. But random candidates just stealing their art... nah.

And Swift has shown a willingness to fight back over and over again. If she's not making a fuss over this one, I am sure it's because she has decided her way is better, and she's not backing down from any fear of Trumpian retribution.

I hope you're right, because I keep reading the entire Kelce clan is firmly in the magat camp. It's hard to believe she would change her political outlook by 180 degrees, but stranger things have happened.

It's business. Don't get caught in dialogue with the sycophants. Get your lawyer to sue. Get a restraining order to stop them from using your work and sue for copyright infringement. It's campaigning. It's not an official act. It's not protected by SCOTUS.

β€œDon’t ever use my songs…” It seems to me the popular music industry presents bigger bullies (mostly male) than lame duck Γ  l’orange. Perhaps the tirades from the orange prick and his pricklets should be monetized. Don’t ignore the benefits of a disaster. 225k supports or detractors in a country of 330mil and a world of however many billions is so inconsequential. β€œThey” used Bach and Beethoven manuscripts to wrap fish and it is a world event when they unearth a previously undiscovered one. I listened to classical music as a teenager (and Perry Como) and still subscribe to only listening to music where the composer is looonnnnnggggg dead. I’ve never heard Sabrina and probably hope I never will but I do believe in her right to perform the way she chooses and her power to stand up to male oligarchy however she chooses. Hopefully she’ll thrive and in doing so, show the pussy persecuted men how to stand up for themselves too. We must disable this dictatorial regime and send its ilk back to the real caves and other holes in the ground including our supreme criminals.

While I have never heard one of her songs either she has every right to call out the King of Cheetos for using her work without permission to promote his sick and twisted agenda. It's copyright infringement. It's illegal. She owns the rights to her art. Copyright in the US lasts for the creator's life plus 70 years for works after 1978. She said it because her copyright has been violated. There isn't a bigger bully in America than Mango Mussolini.

Meredith, you are an absolute treasure for writing this article with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
