Thanks for this hopeful account! I could have stopped right at the "publicly declined" part about the team's WH invite. Every time a winning team goes to lick Trump's boots there, I feel ill, particularly when it is a baseball team such as the Dodgers that owes its success to a roster with diverse ethnic backgrounds. Feels an awful lot like internalized racism and legitimizes Mister's overt bigotry. So pleased about this high-profile party for women athletes.
Great article. Just imagine, the DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, acting like the drunken fool he probably is most of the time. How shameful, just like everything any member of the current regime does. He couldn't hold a candle to even middle school female athletes.
Can you imagine the character of Patel's girlfriend, who appreciates that sort of behavior and allows the waste of taxpayer money on her behalf? Security, my ass. Nobody is after her except the guy getting laid.
Just as an aside, the Olympics are well on their way to achieving true gender parity. At these past Winter Olympics, 47% of the athletes were women (a record). The Summer Olympics have pretty much reached full parity, among both the number of athletes and the number of events.
The IOC has been instrumental in getting women involved in sports in countries like Saudi Arabia - telling countries that if they wanted to play, they had to allow women as well as men to compete.
Kudos to all of the women athletes, this year and for every year. And to FF for handling this with so much generosity and class.
(And one little note about that hypothetical race: Worthy is the fastest of the four men, and all four of the women are faster than he is, three of them considerably. And, as you say, this is track and field, and the exchange really matters, which three of these men have never done. So unless the women dropped the baton three times and kicked it into the infield twice, these men would get smoked. It would be embarrassing.)
Women seem to rarely fantasize about competing against men in sports but for some reason it's a recurring male fantasy. Anyone else remember the tennis Battle of the Sexes in 1973 and 1992? Some men cannot accept women's achievements in sports. Why are they so insecure about their fellow human beings? Is it because they do not believe that women are equal to men? Sounds like sexism to me. I appreciate Flavor Flav's continuing support of women's sports. She Got Game weekend will be a glorious celebration.
