I hear Kamala Harris may be looking for a new gig. How about NOT running for President again (no, no, no, no, no sirree Bob, no) and throwing her hat in the ring for Governor instead?

Bahahaha. One good middle aged bitch, Porter, especially Eliz Warren’s protege, is way better than any young or old dick head man. No contest. Californians, make it happen.

This would be a perfect environment for ranked choice voting.

justin SG's avatar

Absolutely! Why doesn't California use RCV? It's a no-brainer. The candidate who get over 50% of the vote wins, period. You can choose your favorite, then second favorite, etc. It works as an instant runoff and majority, NOT PLURALITY, wins.

Oath Keepers: “They stand for protecting the constitution.”

Saying "Oath Keepers" stands for protecting the Constitution is like saying Jeffrey Epstein is "kid-friendly". Chad Bianco failed his Oath when he supported a bunch of right-wing MAGATS like the Q-anon Shaman and other idiots as they attacked Congress and tried to overturn an American election. Bianco still hasn't stopped lying; he's still claiming Trump won the 2020 election. He betrayed his Oath. In any other American era, Bianco would be so far back in jail you'd have to pump air to him.

Frankly, I like and respect Katie Porter. The negatives as stated about her seem rather nebulous. And, may I ask this? Why is it that only women candidates are ever described as "aggressive", "unlikeable", "combative", etc., etc.? Porter is campaigning to become the governor of a very large, important state. She's smart, well-educated and clearly dedicated to the needs of the middle class. (She can also conduct a withering but devastatingly polite cross examination of unforthcoming executives! Watch her on YouTube with the guy from Wells Fargo or with Louis DeJoy, the USPS nitwit.)

Could we PLEASE grow up just a little bit, my fellow Democrats!!! This kind of antediluvian thinking about women is at least partially responsible for the 2024 election results.

I like Becerra. He’s got the experience and knowledge although maybe he isn’t very exciting. I’ll check the polls the week before the election and if it looks bad for Becerra, I’ll vote for either Steyer or Porter.

Steyer is my choice. He checks all the boxes. And he can win. That’s what matters here. Democrats still haven’t learned that winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.

His 5 Rights Platform:

The Right to Clean Air and Clean Water: Everyone deserves to breathe fresh air and drink clean water, free from industrial poisons.

The Right to Learn: Protection of the right to a free, quality, public education, from preschool through college and skills training.

The Right to a Living Wage: Ensuring all workers earn enough to support themselves and their families.

The Right to Health Care: Guaranteeing access to quality, affordable healthcare.

The Right to an Equal Vote: Ensuring that every citizen has an equal voice in our democracy.

Sure; why wouldn't another billionaire just be ideal? I'm sure he will do all of those things he says.

Patricia Gallery's avatar

Look at his record. He’s legit. Check out his Wikipedia profile. Not all billionaires are the same.

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

I saw him in the 2020 primary, thanks. He has been funding candidates for years, which is his right. This country needs leaders who are not billionaires. I don’t know about you, but I would want to be represented by someone without that handicap.

Democrats have been running California for quite a while...it's practically a one-party state. If Steyer's platform is addressing the above as issues, what has the party been doing all this time? It's not like the Republicans can be blamed for any of it.

Nancy's avatar

No to billionaire governors. No to right-wing lying sheriffs.

Yes to experience and competence. Xavier Becerra. He is now polling at 10%.

There are probably half of voters undecided.

DarkChopin's avatar

CA Dems created this primary scheme. Maybe we should run better campaigns instead of blaming the system since Rs are now in it.

Ma's avatar

No scandals, no old people, no oligarchs. Maybe somebody’s Gen Z wants to run. They surely aren’t dumber than that muscle bound weight lifter married to a Kennedy, Schwarzenegger. Hell, my dog would be a better governor than him.

what the hell is a jungle primary, why do we have so many terrible voting "things " ??

Survey USA, the most recent poll and rated by 538 as A+, has new results that are very different. Steyer is at 21, 3 points ahead of Hilton, Bianco at 8, tied with Porter. And 80% of the polling was before Swalwell dropped out, and he got 9 %.

I appreciate your take on the perils of the top two system, and certainly would support ranked choice, to avoid what looked like a real possibility of two Republicans coming out ahead. Looks like we've dodged the bullet this time, with Steyer's environmental and populist credentials, plus his ability to fund a big campaign. Sorry that Becerra doesn't have more support, and I wouldn't vote for Mahan, given his tech bro backers.

see my comment on Steyer - he's the real deal.

"The unusual system holds the promise of producing more-meaningful general elections."

Uh, no, Tim. It was designed by Democrats to practically eliminate Republicans from being in the top two spots.

This was an in-house takedown of Swalwell by the Democratic leadership. He had become a liability. The sad part is that they and the media had known about Swalwell's issues for about a decade but turned a blind eye. Those that have feigned shock and ignorance (such as Schiff, Pelosi, and Gallego) are most likely lying.

Kristin's avatar

Come on, Dems, don’t mess this up!

S. Carolyn Darity's avatar

Come on Porter!!!! If I could vote for her I would. She is the most awesome human in CA politics.

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

I remind California voters how they--and we who were impressed during the 2020 primary--were hornswaggled by Eric Swalwell. His own friend Ruben Gallego says he realizes that Swalwell was living a double life. Consider that in line with the liars that Trump has nominated and Congress has confirmed because they said the right thing at the right time, and then quickly reneged on that: Kennedy, Bondi, Patel, 100+ more. Look at how quickly Moneybags Musk left any kind of liberalism in the dust. Look how quickly Grifter Trump blew his no-forever-wars promise. No one holds the wealthy accountable, therefore we cannot risk their management of our society.

One person I was UNimpressed with in 2020 was Tom Steyer. Sure, he has liberal bona fides and has put his money behind good candidates in the past. Keep it that way. The last thing America needs is one more billionaire in power. I find their wealth and subsequent worldview disqualifying. We nearly wound up with Michael Bloomberg buying the presidency that year. We. Don't. Need. This.
