The Callais decision is essentially election/voter meddling, which is illegal. It also goes against the intent of the Constitution. The supreme court is effectively legislating from the bench. This is neither right nor ethical.
This makes me furious and heartbroken. To add insult to injury, taxpayers now have to pay a Billion Dollars for a ballroom for the wealthy oligarchs who now run the country. Shame on SCOTUS and the spineless Republicans in Congress!
It's not a coincidence that the South was economically the poorest region of the country during Jim Crow. When 20-30% of the population is denied a good education, a good local infrastructure (roads, water, maintenance--I'm looking at you, Jackson Mississippi), it holds back the entire state and regional economy. Yes, segregation was a drag on the segregationists. The civil rights revolution of the 1960s bought economic benefits to the entire region.
(But don't overlook the contribution of air conditioning to the economic growth of the South.)

Preferably on a weekend or holiday.

Thanks for an explanation that ties together what is happening with voting and effects on communities.
You can only push people so far. We are near the line. I dread the next couple of steps.
