Harry Truman said: “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” Perhaps Mrs. Vance should change her target audience to Trump and members of his administration.
God, this woman is an enormous phony. Initially, I actually felt sorry for her, but then, after careful thought and observation of her behavior and support for another phony, her husband, I then came to the conclusion that she went to the other side. Why, I don't know. To preserve her marriage? Because that's what she really was, while she was portraying herself as a "liberal"? Because she's scared for herself and her children? Who knows what the real answer is, but she is just an enormous hypocrite, by choice or plan.
Yes, like Cadet Bonespurs calling for a national draft. And enjoying his second immigrant wife, who is probably enjoying her umpteenth immigrant pool boy.
Meredith, agreed. Here's the other problem I have with Usha. It's hard to learn when one is hungry.
But my curiosity goes beyond that. Different cultural and religious views. Etc.
IF anyone wants to help, find a local book bank. In the Chicago-area, it's Bernie's Book Bank. They'll take your old books (not too violent, no porn, no MAGA type books.) You can volunteer there. You can make checks out to them. Find your local nonprofit childcare. Volunteer there. Donate money there. They'll take your new/gently used books. They'll take the clothes, food and new/gently used toys too.
I should have worded that differently. How does their marriage work? She grew up Hindu. I'm fine with that. I'm curious what she really BELIEVES vs. says she believes. Hindu = multiple deities. Judaism, Christianity, and the Islamic faith have only ONE deity.
She and JD seem to have a very warped version of Christianity. It reminds me of a horrible roommate situation for less than a semester in college. All 3 worship a very vengeful God. I'm no longer Christian. But I grew up with the Fred Rogers version of Christianity that Chef Jose Andres and Stephen Colbert seem to worship.
Pardon me for saying my years of clinical training in psych and ed trump her beliefs. I wasn't even 10 when I started helping in classrooms, with kindergarten orientation. Yeah, I copied/ laminated. I lead small reading/writing groups. groups. Then in high school, I learned to make small lesson plans for preschoolers.
Another comment as to phony "ladies" associated with the big guys in power: Melania is one of the fakest ladies ever. Love the crap she now put online re Epstein: Didn't know of his proclivity for little girls, didn't know him well. I met him in 2000, when in fact, that provocative photo of her and her posse was taken in the mid 1990s. And, the biggest lie: these little girls worked at Mar a Lago when clearly she was living there, in the "masseuse" parlor. What in the hell do you think a 14 year old was exactly doing in that setting??? She knew this guy, she knew his friends, she knew his girlfriend, she knew what the young girls were being used for, and she approved of it. I really think it may have gone deeper, that she may have acted as one of his "lady friends", or one of his procurers. She makes me sick. Why else would she be writing these denials? She knows, in time, the wolves will find her, and then, it will be supper time.
Everything Melonia does is a sham or trolling. The blood-red Christmas trees? Then she quit doing Christmas at all. Standing next to hubbie while he foments war on Easter, in the company of the Easter bunny? And what exactly is her "thing" now? What happened to bullying? Solved? Or forgotten?
Usha Vance is willing to denigrate herself and her children for her husband to gain power. That is not a role model suitable for anyone, much less a child.
Like just about everything in TrumpWorld, this is purely performative.
The performance is the point. There are no actual goals, no intent to accomplish anything specific. Begin seen to be making mouth-noises about making it better IS the sum total of their game.
Usha Vance is another ambitious woman who traded integrity for access to power much like her husband. Imagine the values they're teaching their children...
Imagine what they're teaching everyone else's children! We used to hold role models to some basic standard. Now our president swears at the world on Easter Sunday.
This is so sad. Here is a brilliant woman, a child of successful immigrants and, I might add, a woman of color- married to a Caucasian fool. Usha Vance could have been such an asset to the cause of immigrant rights, DEI, maternal child health, women and POC rights- one could go on and on. Instead she has sold out disgracefully for loyalty to her debased husband. I' m sorry, Usha. You have betrayed your family, your heritage and yourself. You have so much potential for doing good in this country and you have chosen to be faithful to all the worst values.
This seems right on the mark to me. I think Usha made a conscious decision at some point to make the best of it with the loser she married, and go along for the ride. Pity.
Hey, naive is refreshing these days. Why can't America find one or two decent and viable presidential candidates? You know, so we'd have a choice??? I loved Mayor Pete, but the viable part, even he knew it was a long shot, and neither of us are happy about that. Bigotry R Us.
I'm going to treat this as much less about Mrs. Vance and much more about literacy and its undermining by this Administration. I remember the lovely "Reading Rainbow" and enjoy seeing Levar Burton on Trivial Pursuit, another way to gain and use knowledge.
Frankly, I imagine that there's no hell like being a politician's spouse. If they had a nickel for every time they were forced to say things with which they disagree or have to make some silly happy talk, they would be richer than Elon Musk! It's gotta be a miserable existence.
"At first glimpse, Vance may be more charismatic than her husband, but so is your average corpse."
Meredith, you said it better than me. Be best, Usha!

Very interesting article on a very old fascist problem: do as I say, not as I do. Just the usual double standard.
Don't the Vance's know the earth is already over populated, especially with brown babies that they and their ilk hate so much?
Yes, like Cadet Bonespurs calling for a national draft. And enjoying his second immigrant wife, who is probably enjoying her umpteenth immigrant pool boy.
LOL!

so melanoma wants trump arrested ...no surprise there
She should try to teach her husband's boss how to read.
By reading the Bill of Rights.
How marvelous that she chose such a controversial and complex issue: kids should read! Wow, deep.

I have no empathy for this woman. She knows she is married to a rightwing freak and she stays married to that rightwing freak.
It's an equal and opposite feeling I had for Hillary when she stuck with Bill the first time.
Same here.... "I did not have sex with that woman" ....my proverbial backside.
No empathy for sax bill but I've grown in respecting Hillary when she was member of the Obama administration.
Those were more honest and simple times. The worst thing was having government emails on a personal server......
(I hope I don't sound to naive...)

She is complicit

It might be a 'miserable existence', but it's an existence they willingly signed up for, especially the magats.
It's called A Divorce.
