Trump destroys everything he touches.

L B Rose's avatar

This is why many of us are not surprised. And there are still things he hasn't touched yet. So VOTE for every Democrat you can. Get the Articles of Impeachment ready and make the Senate convict this criminal.

Let's not blame Mr. Trump anymore. He is a failed president and is in a stage of cogntive decline. The Treaty of the Versailles was a total humilation to Germany, but the country came back strong. America can do the same. Our people are good and strong and determined. We should start regaining our respect now starting this midterm election. Republican party, remaining enabler of Mr. Trump, offers no hope.

"The Treaty of the Versailles was a total humilation to Germany, but the country came back strong."

Um... You sure you want to draw that parallel?

Netanyahu owns this. Be careful what you ask for.

Today, JD Vance, the schmoe acting as Vice President, rebuked Israel and, by extension, Netanyahu and followers by basically telling them to shut up and go along with the capitulation of Trump and his administration. In essence saying, Trump is the only leader in the world left who is sympathetic to Israel, and that if "I were the Israeli Cabinet, I would not be attacking the only ally I have left anywhere in the entire world."

If Trump is the only ally you have left in the world, then get ready to pay him and his family whatever billions of dollars and gold bars you can spare, and be sure to hide the young women. Israel made a deal with a "lazy warmonger", who has now declared a ceasefire with your mortal enemy. The schmoe called JD just let you know that your supposed ally now has you in his sights. Now what do you do???

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Not this time. What are the odds that Hezbollah hits Israel?

Plus an MOU is not legally binding.

Ken Kovar's avatar

Exactly and I hope the Israeli voters never forget that 😡

How is it that every single member of both houses of Congress is not calling for the immediate resignation of this malignant Jackass? Without bothering to consult Congress, he went out and burned $1 trillion of our tax dollars on this debacle. This is the single biggest act of treason in our Nation’s history.

Stephen Brady's avatar

And I didn’t even mention the senseless waste of lives. tRump deliberately bombed civilian targets without a declaration of war. These are war crimes.

Bobbette Strauss's avatar

Those young school girls. Let’s not forget them, please.

Thomas Moore's avatar

And how much is it costing American consumers? Anyone keeping track of that? Now I suppose the Republicans will use the depletion of our arms as an excuse to insist on the $1.5 trillion Trump war budget, which will further ramp up the deficit we all owe. The Dems need the spine to say NO. First, we need a PLAN from the DoW that would sensibly re-orient our military to the arms we need in the future, and while they are at it, a plan to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in the DoW.

Simon Rosenberg on Hopium this morning estimated over $1 trillion.

It’s hard to take pleasure in such a disaster. But there is one bit of schadenfreude that I am enjoying. The story goes that, over the past 20 years, Netanyahu tried to convince Dubyah, Obama and Biden each to attack Iran. He failed, they all (wisely) told him it wasn’t worth the risks. Then, lo and behold - Bibi had success with Trump. And look what that’s gotten him. Perhaps Netanyahu should have realized that any president who would agree to his hare-brained scheme was not going to be a good ally. Now Netanyahu’s political career is likely over, just like so many others who partnered with Trump. And it’s his own damn fault.

Joel Karlinsky's avatar

Trump wasn't hard to convince. He agreed to join Netanyahu because he thought he was gonna get some of Iranian oil after the war. Trump was thinking of his Venezuela incursion, he wasn't interested in the enriched uranium or the Iranian people, just the possibility of an enormous oil grab and lining his own pockets. Maybe the idea of a Trump Hormuz Resort and Casino crossed his small brain. Trump thinks big, too bad he's a dummy and everything he touches eventually turns to shit. Hopefully, he'll be turning to shit soon.

Jeff's avatar

Yes, this is his presidency - a smash and grab operation. There's no strategy, nuance, or thinking. He bears no consequences, no impeachment or loss to him and has the Republicans scrambling to put a shine on his turd. Wouldn't be surprised if he's getting a piece of the $300B someway.

If you had to come up with the stupidest character for a novel you couldn't do better than with what is in front of our eyes. Except that the character in the novel isn't running the country to rock bottom....

Thomas Moore's avatar

The title of one that comes to mind is very apropos: "A Confederacy of Dunces."

The "Confederacy" in this case is not accidental.

The war, (which dubiously is at an end) and the "deal" which leaves us worse off than before the war is typical of Trump. The Doha that he crafted with the Taliban in Afghanistan was another. The man and his select lackeys excel in malperformance. The JCPOA was a far better treaty than this so-called agreement, which has more holes and omissions than a block of swiss cheese. What it will do is force more painful and time consuming negotialtion later.

LiverpoolFCfan's avatar

"The Wall Street Journal flatly concedes the deal includes “a huge boost to Tehran’s oil industry, potentially restoring … more than $60 billion a year of revenue.” ".

For this we sacrificed 14 American lives (plus 400 injured), and spent what will eventually be close to a TRILLION dollars in taxpayer money?!?!?!

Now giving to Iran everything it needs to be a real terrorist theocratic world power?!?

Screaming into my pillow again.

bitchybitchybitchy's avatar

Don't forget the Iranian civilians killed in this misbegotten 'excursion '

Anne Pierce's avatar

So Trump has spent over $100 billion, sacrificed 13 American lives and thousands of other lives, presided over a billion-plus in damage to our Middle Eastern bases, trashed the economies of our one-time ME allies, committed war crimes, created artificial shortages of petroleum and many other products, and the US now gets worse terms than we could have had by continuing negotiations - or even just stopping negotiations and not attacking. Lebanon will continue to be attacked by Israel. The Art of the Deal, indeed.

Steven Smith's avatar

If anyone thinks that Trump and/or his family was not given things of value (most likely including money) for these gifts to the Iranian regime, you have not been paying attention. Did Jared have anything to do with this negotiation?

Ivan Tufaart's avatar

It's not surprising. It's so common with Don the Con that it's generated its own acronym:

TACO!

Trump always chickens out.

He shouldn't have started this useless war in the first place, and now he's compounded the error by giving away the ranch to get out of it. The Iranians figured out early on that they have a live one on the fishing line and took full advantage of it.

Jeff's avatar

I don't think doubling down in this case would make it any better. Sending in troops would be a disaster for sure and many more lives and money down a rathole. Chickening out was his only option.

A doc reads's avatar

However, Trump thinks he’d diverting attention from his failed presidency. Guess he thinks that’s a win?

Ivan Tufaart's avatar

Don the Con may think that, but in fact, the sweetheart deal he gave Iran will focus even more attention on his screwups.

Thank you for getting Versailles. The context of then and now is telling: the German Generals were summoned to Versailles, made to sign an unconditional surrender with the harshest reparations to the victors - ending WWI. This Versailles disaster birthed the "Dolchstosslegende" or "stab in the back" myth - that Germany had never lost a battle, didn't lose the war, but was stabbed in the back at Versailles by traitors under the sway of (Jews, Liberals, you name the current enemy). So Trump signs an unconditional surrender; promises big reparations ($300B) to the victor, Iran....what else? The difference is Trump signs, then comes home to tell Big Lies about it....

John Ranta's avatar

Did Macron arrange that on purpose?

Marli's avatar

I read somewhere that trump was not going to sign the MOU but would have JD to sign it. Macron organized a dinner at the end of G7 at Versailles to make sure trump would not leave beforehand, and very smartly presented the MOU for signature to 'the boss'... Haha, the boss!

Jeff's avatar

I thought he was setting up Vance to take the fall. Nothing is ever his fault. I guess Biden must have had something to do with it.

Why is anyone surprised DJT has again declared a company/country bankrupt? He has form; between 1991 and 2009 he drove six of his largest companies into Chapter 11. Now he has done it with the US’s projection of power in the middle East. When you hire a manager with a long and repeated history of disastrous leadership don’t be amazed when he does it again.

David Wilson's avatar

Trump got one thing he wanted - total surrender. Unfortunately for the U.S. and the rest of the free world, it was the wrong side surrendering. Once again, Trump fails and he and his sycophants call it winning.

Deal? Something he’s not capable of.
