It’s totally sickening how much of our taxpayer funds are being stolen like this, the ballroom, for things not authorized or appropriated. Does it make law-abiding citizens feel like paying taxes just to have them used as this administration’s personal slush fund?

Bill's avatar

STOLEN is correct.

I can just hear the MAGA, "let me have sum that gubmint money".

They truly believe every non-white successful person is result of largess against them and justifies their right to our tax dollars. We have a damn color problem in America that I naively thought was in our rear-view mirror. It's really sad though that none are actually interested in bettering themselves with education or other endeavors to grow - just "give me the money".

And those people would get the money and be bankrupt within 12-18 months.

They would buy a new pickup that gets 1 mile per gallon, and lose the rest through online gambling.

I literally feel nauseated when I read about the obscene corruption. I can only read small bits at a time. They are nothing but common thieves, stealing from us.

Me too. Thanks for your short sweet accurate post.

Feels like it's time for a widespread tax boycott. Our hard earned dollars are funding ICE violence, stopping clean energy projects, blockading the Strait and raising energy prices on top of enriching Trump cronies. Defund the Trump administration now!

LHS's avatar

I hear you, but not paying taxes is just too easy for the Feds to (a) figure out you're doing it and (b) prosecute you.

Far better to stop buying anything but absolute necessities. There’s no guarantee this will stop during the next decade. We’ll have to learn to live on less anyway, so may as well start learning now and starve the oligarchs’ plans for using our money. They are the reason Trump is destroying America..

GreedyChicken's avatar

I hear you, but a Google search reveals the IRS has lost about a quarter of its staff under Trump. Be kind of funny if a move meant to let the rich get away with cheating on taxes makes it harder to to catch wage earners boycotting taxes.

Where is congress and the law? Where is our Appropriations Act, and Anti-Deficiency Acts?

"The Antideficiency Act (ADA) (31 U.S.C. §§ 1341–1351) prohibits federal employees from obligating or spending government funds before they are appropriated by Congress, or in excess of allowed amounts."

Oh, ... that's right the corrupted gop congress ignores their job.

Vote them out.

Norm, why can’t the American people participate in a class action law suit to hold the government responsible for misuse of our taxpayer dollars for this graft and corruption? I’ll be the first to sign on.

Very unfortunate that you'll be the first to sign on Karen but I'll be happy to be at least, the second...😉

When historians of the future begin to add up all the 'costs' of the tramp regime, these costs will /must include the financial destructions that donnie has brought, the costs of diminished international relationships, the costs to the American democracy in terms of trust and the failure of the political institutions. 'Cost' is never only in terms of money, it's always accompanied by blows to the very nature of our historical and institutional expectations. Once again, as much as I detest everything that tramp has done to bury America's democratic institutions and the American people, I truly despise the Court's primary role in creating and continuing this ongoing failure. Ms Rikleen's synopsis above is a good start in learning about and then taking a means to address this cesspool of corruption.

And the massive cost to the environment and future generations who will have to pay more just to survive.

Ricardo Grinbank's avatar

I have a correction to make.

Todd Blanche is not "Trump's former defense attorney". He still is but this time we are paying for his services. How much lower can they go?

Steve 218's avatar

Best not to ask the question 'how much lower can they go'. We have seen that there is no apparent bottom.

Marilyn's avatar

We normal people cannot imagine the depths to which the GOP and their king will go. I am no longer surprised with anything they do.

Steve 218's avatar

"The president, his two sons, and The Trump Organization have sued the Internal Revenue Service — an agency the president oversees — for $10 billion, alleging the IRS disclosed confidential tax information to the media."

Before any settlement is considered, just what was confidential? Just because it was claimed does not make it so. Also, what part of the information was what Trump promised to divulge as a candidate?

Trump has entered the realm of Forgotonia relating to the document raid at Mar-a-Lardo. He was given the chance (twice) to return them; that they should never have left the White House in the first place was forgotten. The FBI had a warrant and executed it. Lies and specious arguments abound.

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

Now he has simply claimed that no records need be kept. And no taxes need be paid. So I acted accordingly this year.

Hope it works in your favor, though we have found that there are two tiers of justice. If caught, you shall surely face fine and punishment.

All of this brought to you by the Republican party.

Vote them out!

Hummingbird3's avatar

That is the one goal for the next 2 elections. Purity voters: please hold off on your single issue and vote for a non-Republican even if she/he doesn’t hit your entire wish list! Apathetic/nihilistic non-voters: please believe, just this once, that there IS a point, your vote counts more than ever, and nothing is all worthless except for Republicans who you need to destroy with your vote. Everyone else: voting out Repubs will not make it all better. It will take more than one election cycle to undo the evil this administration has done. But we’ve got to start by getting rid of those who have aided in the demolition of our country and rule of law.

So where are the champions of restitution for the capital police-the real victims of January 6th??? At a minimum any remuneration for the rioters should be reduced by the governments’ insurance, medical, and loss of service costs for police attacked in service of their country.

Michael Flynn is owed nothing by the government. He got his pardon. Anyone else who had intentionally lied to the FBI would be prosecuted and looking inside a jail cell. Nobody but Flynn made that decision. To think that taxpayers are paying for his lawsuit against the government is completely obscene. Maybe it’s also time to limit pardon power.

Down is up. Up is down. Black is white. Greed is good. The sun rises in the west and sets in the east.

This is a mad, mad, mad mad F-ed up country we live in. It has become a farcical toxic shit show led by a lying narcissistic lunatic who is hellbent on stroking his fragile ego with abandon and is openly stealing money from the American people with no end in sight.

The very idea that the vile Mike Flynn would be pardoned for his crimes against the nation and given a wheelbarrow full of the taxpayers' money as a reward is beyond outrageous. Of course, when you have the POTUS suing his own government and ignoring the emoluments clause of the Constitution, what can one expect?

It is high time that the pardon power of the executive branch be curtailed or outright ended. I realize that would require an amendment to the Constitution and the likelihood of that passing is slim to none.

Of course, the current regime/junta relishes giving the middle finger to the principles enshrined in the Constitution and treat it as just an old piece of parchment to be fed into a shredder.

This theft of our taxpayer dollars makes me very mad: let’s hope we get into the position of being able to imprison every one of these bad actors for life.

Nevin Oliphant's avatar

The Grifter in Chief and his grifter family and friends are stealing us blind. They all belong in prison.

Justin Sayne's avatar

Trump continues to put the POS into POTUS. He is nothing but a demented, low IQ crook! How, in the world did this country elect this guy as President?! TWICE!!!!!!! What does that say about our electorate? Nothing good, that's for sure!!!

The egregious pillaging of honest citizens on the orders of Thief In Chief Trump by “his” Department of Jackals is the price we pay under MAGA. The Red Court, the Invertebrate Congress, and the rapacious attention seekers in the Cabinet are a life lesson about assuming the Government can be run on autopilot. Greed, desire to control the lives of others, desire to hurt others, and lust for being worshipped and feared, yes, they are all here. We will take our Nation back. There will be handwringing and claims of unfairness by MAGA, but we will recover and MAGA will make restitution for its evil deeds. Trump and his allies will see the insides of prison cells for their evil deeds as well, unless they flee to a welcome in another dictator’s country. America will have a new Birth of Freedom, until the next time.

That our government plays fast and loose with our VERY hard-earned money is an abomination. And that the members of that government that we elected to serve our interests have given way to and even approved the appointment of Trump’s selected grifters and goons is unacceptable. Every caring American must contact their elected folks and tell them”stand up for our rights and our interests or we are voting you out at the nearest opportunity.
