Thanks for running my latest column, The Contrarian. The fight for truth is a crucial battle of our time. Share thoughts, questions, and links you want me to fact check over at https://theystandcorrected.substack.com/
What would be important for the public is to learn WHY our news media is in this predicament. It would also be helpful if you explained it while referencing Hitler's first big step when I was working to take over Germany in 1933. He got control of the newspapers to spread his lies and his hate.
Reagan (who agreed with Heritage Society ideas) ended the Fairness Doc. This allowed the Reagan administration to allow Murdoch to start FOX "news" with its endless lies. (In Britain they have thrown Fox News off the air more than once for this.) It wasn't long before it was apparent that the rest of the mainstream news programs were no longer using facts & evidence as the basis of their news analyses.
When the news media started saying that the GOP was better than the Dems for the economy, they 'NEGLECTED' to say that the GOP was ONLY enriching the rich while destroying the economy for the rest of us.
When the news media started saying that both parties were the "same", they did this to hide the fact of just how far right the GOP was moving. They tried to say that progressive ideas were "far left" and the "socialism connected to communism". Almost every nation in the world believes in HC for all. (Bernie was no help because of his rants and misstatements.) In fact, with T, the fact that this was a fascist party became clearer & clearer. McCain was the last decent Republican MOC. Ike was the last good GOP president.
Bottom line - Reagan took the first step toward fascism.
T has shown us the rest of the steps because Musk fixed the swing states' vote count and millions of people chose NOT to vote, voted for a 3rd party candidate or voted for the monster. Racism, misogyny, ignorance (much caused by news journalists) and self-absorption. Neither HRC nor Harris were "good enough" for them EVEN IF IT MEANT LOSING OUR DEMOCRACY.
Watching any of mainstream news is a waste of time and causes a loss of sanity. They haven't been using facts & evidence since Reagan ended the Fairness Doc.
The 39% rule of media ownership in a single area needs to be broadened and enforced. We used to disapprove of monopolies (the Sherman Anti-trust Act). Somewhere this seems to have been forgotten. When 'news' became 'media' less public service, more profiteering and restricted coverage escalated. Until change comes, we'll need to rely on outlets like The Guardian, The Atlantic, The Contrarian, and on the air, BBC and PBS (even though funding has been cut).
I wish we could count on those Big Media outlets you just named! But I've corrected The Guardian, the BBC and PBS many times in the podcast and https://theystandcorrected.substack.com/. :(
Oh well, I hoped that there would be more accuracy and less editorialized shading in their reporting. I still believe that on the major points, they do better. Maybe you should spend some time attempting to correct the stuff (polite term) that Faux Noise dishes out. On second thought, don't, if you wish to preserve your sanity.

Excellent column!
Thanks!

I barely watch tv news anymore.

Haa! I hear you. I explain on the show why I chose this focus. Big mainstream media do correct Fox and call it out. But no one corrects them!
