I am so incredibly sad that our politicians are going to allow the most vulnerable people from seniors on down go hungry. My church does have a monthly food pantry where I volunteer , so we can help some, but the idea that the persons elected by the people to serve their needs would put the desires of their leader above the needs of their constituents is appalling.

If you donate food to a food bank or food pantry in bulk you can get a tax write off if the organization is a 501c3 nonprofit. If you buy food in bulk like Costco or Sams and donate it to food banks they will gladly accept your donations. They will accept cans of tuna and salmon as well as single serving items like applesauce or fruits as long as it’s still fresh. Those are items that appeal to kids. If you deer hunt you can drop off your kill to a local meat processing plant and designate it to charity they will process it into ground venison and deliver to the food banks. Not sure if every state has this but it’s available in my state. Those are ways to help your community through the rough times as well as the above suggestions. You can also give needy folks gift certificates to their local supermarkets.

That is if we have a functioning IRS to file our taxes. I still haven’t gotten my tax refund yet.

Starving people? Nothing new here. I knew they were inhuman a decade ago.

What is surprising is how few of those now in power are lifting a pinky finger to doing anything about it!

Just more shame for America to swallow.

As for IVF being government funded to have more babies, correction - white people to have more white babies. It will still be 16 yrs before those babies can work and fund our social programs, by then Medicaid, Medicare and social security will be long gone. Don’t give in but don’t give up. Help our neighbors.

The money we’re wasting for them to try to tear down the government is infuriating

Democrats stay strong. Increase your messaging so everyone knows it's the Republicans who want billionaires over the poor and vulnerable and their LIES about illegal immigrants and Trans people.

I was all in on Democratic senators holding the line on the continuing resolution. But now I think they have to approve it to reopen the government. The message is "caring not caving". Unlike the cruel administration and the do nothing party that controls both houses, Democratic senators care about 42 million Americans going hungry. That's a line they are not willing to cross. And yes, health insurance premiums will increase exponentially - start immediately to push for a single payer system - Medicare for all! If the do-nothing GOP wants a better health care system, then Medicare is the model.

If the Democrats cave on this one the Snap Benefits will be cut via the Republican bill so it is just postponing the inevitable. They need to stand their ground and fight by not giving in.

I think compassion wins on this one.

More than 65,000 infants, toddlers and preschoolers could lose access to their local Head Start centers across the U.S. beginning Nov. 1 because of the government shutdown. The federal program provides childcare and early learning for low-income families.

🎧 Without federal dollars, 134 Head Start programs are rushing to find alternative funding, NPR’s Cory Turner says. If the programs close, many working families may have to choose between going to work and taking care of their children. Corey Holcomb, who runs a Head Start program in Michigan, told Turner that her agency secured two more weeks of funding by pulling from other resources with the hopes that they will be reimbursed. They've also asked for deferments on some bills.
