Wow...just...wow.

There is plenty for Democratic voters across the spectrum to be excited about today.

Can't wait for the investigations, subpoenas, impeachments....January can't come soon enough.

..and yes, "Now it’s time for Democrats to deliver." 100%

For me personally, I am gushing over Wisconsin's first state level Dem trifecta in 16 years, despite the intense gerrymandering there.

I have family there with a trans kid..she is now (a bit more) safe and maybe can even get back some of the health care options that were taken from her.

I am also holding back laughter at Elon Musk, who moved his main operations to Texas....I guess he really will have to move to outer space now.

324 seats in 46 state legislatures flipped last night to BLUE.

New Hampshire has its first gay Senator. New Mexico its first Native Governor. Texas its first Latina governor, plus the great smart guy became Senator. while the obnoxious, criminal dumbass lost.

Georgia got its first black woman governor (first in the nation, for that matter).

And South Carolina! (Fetch my fainting couch and bring me a glass of water!)

Lauren Boobert is losing her district right now.

A black guy may be elected to the Senate from Mississippi, first since Reconstruction.

"They fell very far, or haven't you heard? In Kansas, they say....a miracle occurred!" 🎻

And yes, Elon is at least $500 million poorer with nuthin' to show for it.

It's like a box of chocolates where you can have almost ALL of them.

Lots of great first.. I read that there will be 100+ Democratic women in Congress for the first time.

And of course, we can't forget the first Muslim Senator ever, Abdul El-Sayed, who overcame intense racism and Islamophobia to win by 7 points (funny enough, El-Sayed predicted he'd win by that exact number weeks ago). Haley Stevens looks extra stupid today.

Holding hope for Colom's win (and Peltola of course - but Colom would be just extra sweet) and Boebert's loss.

Can the new Congress fund a spaceship to send Elon to orbit?

I’m from Wisconsin, although I now live in the east, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I was at my class reunion in September in Wisconsin, and there was a group of us, all women, who were all furious and all on the same page. That’s what this victory was made of!

Little darlin', it's been a long cold lonely winter...

Here comes the sun!

I can see clearly now, the reign is gone

I was singing something more like "Hit The Road Jack, and Don't You Come Back No More No More No More No More!"

I confess that I've been whistling "Ob-la-di, ob-la-da"

Perfect! The Beatles had a song for everything!

I'd like an impeachment investigation swirl please, with subpoena sprinkles

"Concerning accountability for criminality and wrongdoing: robust, sweeping, and swift investigations of Trump’s massive graft, involvement in the Epstein pedophile scandal, and systemic wrongdoing in office must precede the decision about what to do with the information they uncover."

I have a feeling that files are being deleted and documents burned in the White House this morning.

Can't wait for the hearings.

Do you think Dairy Queen might have that one?

Jason's avatar

i think they will today!

A million drops came together to form our Beautiful Blue Tsunami! Love to every one of those drops!

RideShare2Vote just shared an impossible story about how a driver rescued a woman from floodwaters to get her to the polls. You have to read this!

Ms. Rubin, this is a brilliant post, so well written. It was a pleasure to read. Thank you

With this kind of power in January, can we tell Trump to support Ukraine and end the war with Iran immediately.

Jane in NC's avatar

We can also end the tariffs that are driving up costs for every American, and reclaim control over public lands, i.e., no arch, no Trump billionaire boys club golf course in DC. It all STOPS!

Bonnie Boyce's avatar

I think the election spoke loudly that voters want actual governance and problem solving as opposed to ideological and insignificant culture wars.

"disingenuous Trump flunky Sen. Susan Collins" hahahahaha what a night. wow. Minnesota stays BLUE and elects Native American Peggy Flanagan to the Senate. we are happy here.

John Frangelico's avatar

It would be hard to pick the one outcome that put the biggest smile on my face but Collins losing was definitely in my top 10. Good riddance to that fraud.

Steve 218's avatar

The massive upset in Texas will be nothing but a good thing too. Once again, money and corruption didn't get the winning votes.

Louise's avatar

Yes. My eyes started to drift shut, totally against my will, last night but the very last thing I remember clearly was being told that Collins had conceded.

Credit, too, to our great leaders like Jen, Norm, Joyce, Marc - surnames unnecessary. We all know you and love you, for your wisdom, optimism, can-do American spirit!

I know that this win has been a HUGE win for amazing candidates. But let’s not overlook the win it is for EVERYDAY people who have been, at once, angered, depressed, and saddened the PAST TWO YEARS!!! WE can now have a bit of breathing room. We won’t have to awaken with dread in our hearts to ask ‘WTF has he done now”. We now HAVE SOME GUARDRAILS!!! Let me say also, that BRIGHT RED Western North Carolina has FINALLY released the R stronghold!! We can now breath a bit. Kudos to all who stepped up!!! THANK YOU TO EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU.

It’s a BLUE Texas morning! I still can’t believe it!

Steve 218's avatar

Elon Musk probably can't believe it either!

JL West's avatar

I read that Musk went silent for 8 hours. And then posted something about going to Mars. Bon voyage, Elon!

Steve 218's avatar

Would that he'd take Trump, Blanch and Hegseth with him.

On the other hand, why pollute space more than we already have?

He can take all his billionaire friends with him on a one way trip. We don't want him back.

Perhaps the biggest victory of all? The ones who we expected we'd be hearing from last night and today, throwing around a five-letter word beginning with F? They aren't. This wave was, so to speak, "too big to fail".

Linda Martino's avatar

Yup!! And get the obscene amount of money out of our elections!

Thomas Dresser's avatar

Great piece, Jen. You captured the essence of a generational shift in the political landscape.

These are wonderful results, and the Democratic bench is young, talented, and deep. Now, time to get to work. (What a relief!)

Dems don't control Congress until next year & a depraved sociopath controls the WH with veto, pardon power & serial criminality until at least 2029.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

If the Republicans left standing in Congress know what’s good for them, they will fall in with Democrats to overcome vetoes!

Jason's avatar

True of course, but he is seriously diminished, more than ever...He wasn't even trying to say this was rigged. This had laid a real groundwork for previously scared GOP to start trickling away. We will see!

Joseph, as I have opined before, based on my observation of my late mother's experience with dementia, the odds are in favor of Donald's not surviving the remainder of his term. Even if he does live that long, his mental decline is accelerating and his cabinet will likely be forced to invoke the 25th Amendment before the end of 2028.

Unlike Donald, JD does not have a criminal past compelling him to hide in the White House. Nor does he have GOP legislators in his thrall. He'd be at best a placeholder, the lamest of ducks.

I recommend keeping an eye on Miller and Vought, who are the power behind the power.
