Why has this country simply stopped evolving? Why would we rely on major systems that weren't great to begin with when the U.S. population was a tiny fraction of what it is today? No one would stand for a simple electronic product that wasn't ever updated.
Probably because too many people with no brain are voting in disasters like we have now. Fascists not only do not WANT to evolve, hell, they want us to go back in time, most likely the 1850s, rather than the 1950s.
You know, when women weren't allowed to vote, when only white males had the right to own property, including black slaves.
If we allow the current regime to get away with everything they are doing and preparing for right now (the midterm elections!!!), they will get their wish.

And what do you think happens if the presidential election comes down to just thousands of votes? There would be lawsuits in every precinct in the country. It would take months to sort out. A better compromise would be to award Electoral Votes in each state proportionally. Close votes and recounts would be reduced to only a few states, and even then, only if the EV total is close.
OATH is another organization that analyzes races at all levels to determine where the least money is likely to make a big difference. One can allocate his or her donation in a myriad of ways. Best part is your money is distributed [somehow] so one doesn't receive a slew of solicitations in the mail or email.

There’s no reason for an unpopular candidate to win a rigged election. The electoral college needs to go. There’s better ways to do this.
