Trump could not care less about the people of Venezuela.

Absolutely true. If democracy advocates in Venezuela actually thought that the Trump administration cared about them or about restoring democracy, they were hopelessly naive.

I suspect that Machado knew better, which is why she offered up her Nobel Prize -- she was hoping that she could get Trump to do the right thing by appealing to his ego. Needless to say, she was right that he wanted something more but wrong about how much more.

Just finished Haberman's and Swan's Regime Change. It specifically states that Trump 's team was willing to work with Rodriguez, knowing that she is corrupt.

Machado, like so many others, mistakenly placed her faith in Trump.

Trump has not done a damn thing to make Venezuela democratic. He has simply followed the US 20th Century practice of making another South American country a vassal state.

And watch out, should a Venezuelan arise and try to assert an independent democratic state, the odds of the US CIA arranging another assassination are high.
