"Melania claimed that “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country."

She'd better look a damned sight closer to home for the greatest divider of our country. So much projection sticks in the throat. It's a violation of First Amendment freedom of speech to effectively holler "off with his head" like the Red Queen from Alice in Wnderland. If you don't like what someone is saying, there are choices. 1/ Stop listening. 2/ Stop behaving offensively so that there'll be nothing to be said about you. Childish reation to criticism shows a shallow person.

Since the Disney boycott debacle, Jimmy Kimmel has been untouchable. Nothing T says will affect him, other than providing more material for jokes. The T’s are essentially heckling Kimmel in social media & the press. Any comedian who’s achieved even a moderate level of success has had years of experience dealing with hecklers. If you heckle a comedian on Kimmel’s level, it’s like a drunk guy climbing into the ring with an MMA champion (“You’re not so tough!”). It will not end well for you!

Sure, fire Kimmel for that joke. But first fire Trump for laughing about Paul Pelosi being attacked with a hammer.

And what he said about Mueller and the Reiners. And 1000’s of other comments the moron in Chief has made denigrating 100s of people.

The Trump’s skin is as thin as a hair.

It wasn't Kimmel's best joke, but "beyond the pale"??? How about "just grab 'em by the p***y?

And we can all name other examples of "beyond the pale".

Who really believes that that woman ever watches Kimmel on her teevee? The rest of us get assaulted nearly every day with some nonsequitor drivel from the guy who gave her enough viable sperm to produce a spawn.

There was very little comedy in the old Soviet Union. This might save us.

Better watch your naturalization papers, Melania.

These people seem to be living in a bubble where they think everyone else takes them as seriously as they take themselves. Guess that is where you wind up when you surround yourself with fawning sycophants. Someone needs to clue them in that it is not just Jimmy Kimmel laughing at them, but millions and millions of folks around the world. Laughter "like no one has ever seen before." Because it is our only refuge from the ongoing sorrow they are visiting upon us.

Thank you for that. Living amongst these people sucks the joy out of life. Let's put it back in.

"Guess that is where you wind up when you surround yourself with fawning sycophants."

Unfortunately, that's where we are as a society. Pick a group, and you have your "fawning sycophants". The Contrarian is just as much an ideological bubble as Fox News.

I wonder how many people thought Kimmel's comment was made after the attempted assassination?

Nay's avatar

My guess is about 43% of the people who could be polled. They have no F’n clue.

Trump is completely unraveling. I like that Heather Cox Richardson includes the full texts of his incoherent social media posts. And The Independent today published a photo from one of his posts where he’s holding an assault rifle with the title, No More Mr Nice Guy, and bombs blowing up in the background (message to Iran). We need to see, hear, read the stuff coming directly from him. It gets filtered out, which contributes to the sane-washing.

You are an arts and culture writer. Since Trump is attempting to lead through entertainment, do you ever ask about your role in covering that? I’d rather watch and hear about Kimmel, of course. But this our president and he is operating in the domain you know so much about.

She also said the [comedian] PRESIDENT, who recently extended his contract at [ABC] SCOTUS, “shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate…Enough is enough.

Kimmel has the right to say whatever he wants, no matter how many people it upsets. Disney shouldn't be made to fire him, and the FCC should in no way, shape or form try to force Disney to do such.

But Disney had no problem firing Gina Carano over what she said...

You do understand the difference between a company firing an employee, and an arm of the government pressuring a company to fire an employee? Most states have at-will employment and people are fired for bad reasons everyday. I don't like it. But it is not the same as autocrats using the federal government to pressure business to do their bidding.

I already stated that government shouldn't pressure media outlets or anyone else to fire an employee for saying something some people might find offensive. My point was that Gina Carano was fired for making comments but Jimmy Kimmel somehow gets a pass by the same company. Disney had to settle with Carano for her firing.

Yeah. Most of us have no recourse when we get let go for unfair reasons, as I pointed out about at-will employment. But she had Elon backing her. How nice she got her day in court when the rest of us get our day at the unemployment line.
